Vermeulen at lock for Stormers

FIXThe injury-depleted Stormers could be forced to play regular No 8 Duane Vermeulen at lock in their Super Rugby clash against the Brumbies in Canberra on Saturday,Die Burger's website reports.

De Kock Steenkamp has picked up a groin injury and is likely to be sidelined for a while.

He is the sixth Stormers lock out of action at present. Already on the crocked list are Eben Etzebeth, Rynardt Elstadt, Manuel Carizza, Michael Rhodes and Jean Kleyn.

The Stormers are hoping Rhodes recovers from the shoulder injury he picked up against the Crusaders a few weeks ago.

If not, coach Allister Coetzee could be forced to pick Vermeulen at lock, which would see Nizaam Carr come in as the starting No 8.

Carr made a big impact when he came on in Friday's 36-20 loss to the Chiefs in Hamilton, scoring a try late in the second half.

Meanwhile, the Stormers are also sweating over the availability of captain Jean de Villiers and fullback Jaco Taute. Both have sore shoulders.

Juan de Jongh has recovered from his knee and is believed to be on his way to Australia.

If De Jongh is not fit enough to feature, Peter Grant could also be utilised at centre.

The Stormers' clash against the Brumbies kicks off at 10:40 (SA time) on Saturday.

Quin Roux was the man they should never have let go. Too many injuries again. I doubt the right conditioning work is being done. EACH SEASON WE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. Cilliers and Malherbe also out. Please oaks no silly comments about the Stormers injuries try and resist it somehow .

Beeno: I think the sad injury state may be the result of training methods. Weren't the stormers training with sheep and hay bales? Evidence provided below. It was part of a thread which I believe you created (22 December)

I think that Coetzee has not concept of how to use his squad. This stems back to when he started taking over Stormers by over playing them and now it just seems to keep going. Jean De Villiers played most of the games and features in all of the boks test matches. I'm surprised that he hasn't broken down yet.
If you look at the quality players that he let go then you wonder what the hell he is doing, and that is due to his squad management. The players were just fed up of being left out. For example, van der heever was a starting wing for the bulls but had to sit on the bench week after week. The same as the other players such as JP Du Plesis, good to start the one season but as soon as Coetzee favourites are back he just ends up playing them into the ground. The list just keeps going on.
Players I noted that he messed around

Just the ones that spring to mind. He could have easily managed these guys and still win his games.

JW we all know a few kiwi sheep stories so you are skakting on thin ice here!
Here is a classic
An Australian ventriloquist visiting New Zealand walks into a small village and sees a local sitting on his porch patting his dog.
He figures he'll have a little fun, so he says to the Kiwi:
"G'day, mind if I talk to your dog?"
Villager: "The dog doesn't talk, you stupid Aussie."
Ventriloquist: "Hello dog, how's it going mate?"

Ha ha Beeno yes that's a classic. The poms change the nationality to Welsh and tell the same joke so it has done the rounds.
The ironic thing is that the story about the stormers training with sheep was real, not meant as a joke. Here is the article & related thread posted by Beeno himself:
