The Boks will probably have to have a black captain at the next World Cup.. Kolisi will be 36 by the next World Cup, and it is hard to see him as a first-choice starter by then. Although apparently, Tsituka was born in the Congo, not SA.
Kolisi has had some fantastic games for the Boks -usually when it is an open-running, high-tempo game. He is more of a number 8 than an openside flanker. Unlike most test teams, the Boks often go into games without a specialist open sider whose primary focus is the breakdown. This got exposed over the weekend badly, as was the case in many SA teams playing overseas before the international season.
Tsituka looked solid at 7 for the Boks and could be a new cap experiment that will pan out.
The Boks need to be testing some specialist fetchers at 6 to replace Kolisi (And Deon Fourie)
It was a pity that Hanekom was injured, as he is very effective at the breakdown, while also being a better all-rounder who can carry the ball up or link with the backs.
Vincent Tshituka has served as captain at the club level. Specifically, he acted as stand-in captain for the Sharks during a United Rugby Championship match against Cardiff in March 2025, when regular captain Siya Kolisi was resting due to Springbok protocols. In that match, Tshituka led the team, impressed with his leadership, and earned man-of-the-match honours for his performance, particularly in the lineouts and defence.
Additionally, Tshituka has spoken about his leadership role within the Sharks, describing his experience as team leader in the United Rugby Championship.
His form has been improving throughout this season.
