According to this article, Warren Gatland will never coach the British Lions again.

Gatland's name was definitely in the hat to coach the British Lions in South Africa in 2021 but he's taken himself out of contention saying he's done and it's someone else's turn.

Gatland didn't get a lot of credit for achieving an astonishing result that no-one thought was possible and it looks like he had quite a lot to cope with behind the scenes as well. Irish flanker Sean O'Brien said after the tour that the Lions would have won 3-0 with better coaching which is quite a slap in the face for his coach.

To his credit, Gatland didn't sink to the same level and his response to O'Brien was all class:

"You take 41 players on tour and you are not going to keep everyone happy. There are going to be players disappointed, feeling they haven't had a chance or an opportunity. I understand that. That's the nature of professional sport.

"There is no doubt Sean O'Brien had a fantastic tour. He played exceptionally well. There is no doubt about his contribution on the playing field. He was excellent.

"In the changing room, as a voice, from a leadership point of view, he contributed extremely well. It's only fair to acknowledge that."

Now that's what I call taking the moral high ground!

Good luck to Warren Gatland. Hope he gets some more opportunities at international level.

Sean O'Brien is a moron. The Irish won a game against an All Black team with no locks- and now they are world beaters.

Gatland has been the most successful Lions coach of the professional era. Not sure about Rob Howley- as it is difficult to understand what he is saying.
The turning point of the tour- was Sonny Bill getting sent off. If that had not happened- the Lions might have lost all 3 games.
The All Blacks started slowly this year- but appear to peak again as the season progresses.

SOBs head is fattening nicely like many in the NH .I do so hope your boys will deliver unto the Irish an old fashioned arse-kicking seeing as how they and the Poms are playing duck and cover with the ABs.

The Irish also complained about Driscoll being dropped for the last Lions tour. His replacement Jonathon Davies earnt man of the match- and the Lions won comfortably.
Gatland seems to get affected by fans on this side of the world, and then when he got to New Zealand the Kiwi media had him as a clown.
