He has got to be in the mix, come the year end tour.
  1. He is fantastic at coming from the back, with speed!
  2. His positional play is fabulous
  3. He is a decent size
  4. And he isnt fat!

Thoughts?

Earlier this year Gelant was very disappointing and it is clear that Mitchell helped him massively to improve his game.   With his latest stabdard of performance I think he should be selected to the Springbok squad replacing a dud like Rhule as an outside back.

Mike, last year he missed most of the season due to injury.
So no doubt, his slow start to the season was a direct result of that as well as the sh1t coaching at the bulls!

He is a natural talent.
I'm sure @Saffes would agree with me on this one.

If I was Bok coach I would have had Warrick Gelant as my starting fullback last season already.

Chipped ou Gelant is 87 KG and 22 years old. So another small back. How many do you want in the Bok backline? Give Gelant a chance at 15 but can you afford two small wings as well, the scummie isnt big and a not to big flyhalf in Jantjes. In other words into what context do you place Gelant into the Bok side.
Small guys will just have to admit that too many of their type ruins the team. Sadly ou rooitwit hasn't realized this yet as he has a severe case of small mans syndrome!!

Baboon-ou thinks Warrick Gelant is too small for the Boks. For all those people unsure if Gelant has the goods, there's the strongest argument for his inclusion.

Not sure why my name became chipped ou... a bit lame actually!
But in anycase, Gelant is 92kg.
Rule of thumb: Don't use Wikipedia to get players weights.

Beeno is ga-ga - but I think that the whole backline review should be finalized wuith due regard to performances in the next Super Rugby Season.
Looking at performance I would like to see a backline comprising the following:-
15   Gelant14   Nkosi/Mapimpi13   Janse van Rensburg12   Vorster11   Combrinck10   Pollard/Willemse/Bosch?9     Van Zyl/Schreuder/Cronje
I would like to see Vorster in the team to handle long distance penalty kicks as well,    I am not sure about the flyhalf situation.   I dohat Jantjies is the answer at 10 - but Pollard has been out of realrugby for nearly 2 years and  both Willemse and Bosch is very young.   Of the latter 2 I think Willemse is the future flyhalf.
I like what I* have se3en from ivan van Zyl of the Bulls - he is a real scrummie and Ithink he is the best of the current lot.
In cidentally I like thinking players and not only brawn - that is why I very unhappy with Jesse Kriel.

Ou Maaik, I wouldn't complain if that backline was selected. I'd add Robert du Preez as a flyhalf option and I'd also consider Faf de Klerk for scrummie.

I think you meant Combrinck taking long distance kicks rather than Vorster?

So I guess Coetzee, Skosan, Mapoe, Rhule, Lleyds, Stepfontein, Cronje, Allende Jumbo and Kriel are now all toast......replaced by the new battle proven heroes Gelant, Mapimpi, Nkosi, Combrink, Rohan, Vorster, Schreuder (hahaha), Willemse and Bosch.......in the distant past ( 2 years ago) van Wyk, Jordaan, Reinacht, Lambie and Estehozen. .. This is the real issue with Bok rugby that only Jake stopped.

Moffie, stay off the rugby threads and stick to your spiteful and childish personal attacks on other posters.

Nobody gives a toss about your laughably ignorant rugby opinions . . . except your Gimps of course.

Stick with what you know. Just some friendly advice. Hope you take it in the spirit it's offered.

This is about backline selection - of which Jake knew near to zero and where he had to brig Jone on board to try and help out.,  Jake was fiored by the Sharks because of a totally malfunctioning backline aand that is also a fact.
I would rather have De Allende on the bench than anyone else..
Then for the rest Mozart comments are based on some players Dave wrote about and some I favoured at one stage.   However, there is a clear difference between his team support for selection basis and that relates in fact only on reputation and age wihout any regard to performance, while I look at performance as a basis and also with regard to identifying of thinking players.
On the basis I favour one can change ones mind about players - while Mozart is stuck in a groove where Meyer landed our backline.   He can\ never change his mind - both iro specific player - norabout adopting ofa suitable playing style - really heartbreaking.

Actually, it's not hard to believe at all, considering that Piss Mint said that the real reason that we lost that 2011 game with "Price Lawrence" was because of Schalk and Victor.

Gelant will get his chance to play. It remains to be seen if the wings or fullback will get much space with the current 2 centres.

Rooitwit you sublime moron I did not say Gelant can't play for the Boks I was simply suggesting we don't want too may small backs  Its bad enough as it is. Rohan, Combrinck and Pollard would solve the problem and then a Gelant could work if he has what it takes.Ooooh the foolishness and lack of basic understanding that ou rooiwtit so consistently displays.

Watson over Burger.....

I hate to ask, but surely you are joking here

DA Ou rooitwit did say that. Incredible isn't it.

Rooitwit besides hating Burger, also hated Bakkies and of course Eben. The common denominator is that all these were physical players and I think they scared ou rooitwit! Bwahahahahahhaahhahaha

Gelant is a fantastic talent, potentially better than McKenzie, for he is as illusive, quick but at 95kg's has the physical attributes to compete in traffic.
Always looks to counter from the back with good speed and an exceptional step. Has that ability to always beat the first defender.
By far our best option at 15, a must for the Boks. I like Coetzee as I did Willie but this kid is on a different level. I'd take Gelant and Coetzee on tour.
Mike is speaking kak he has always been good it has stuff all to do with a coach. He took a few months to get back to his best after his injury but is on fire right now.
Another who is just as good is Nkosi on the wing......another must tom start......at 98kg gives us much needed grunt on the wing.
Also after seeing Ismaeil's return game for the Bulls, he reminded me just how good he is, another that always beats the first defender and has a nose for the try line.
With Combrink out with a shoulder op......I'd take Nkosi, Ismaeil, Mapimpi and Skosan as our wings. Big fan of v/Wyk and the x factor of Senatla.
It astounds me how utterly ignorant posters are regarding our centres.......bloody hell Serfontein has been bloody fantastic and in his game against NZ he made SBW look like a pretender. Serf has been good all year. Jessie Kriel has been damn good when we have played it wide against the lesser opponents, unfortunately against the AB's we kept narrow with Serf doing all the work.
Serf and Kriel have more than proven their worth, they are thankfully there to stay under Coetzee. Add de Allende, Vorster and JVR and we are sorted. Not to mention Am.
Saw a brilliant post on Facebook by Oom Rugby that displayed every touch by our 10's against the AB's and with it once again throwing every ignorant anti Jantjies out of the water.......it showed him putting players into space, kicking well positionally and standing firm in defence. Only blemish was the charge down.
Jantjies is a must as is Pollard, forget little boy Bosch, the kid is shit scared of contact. Willemse is the real deal, far better prospect. Agreed with Rooi, du Preez is another option.
At 9 it has to be Faf de Klerk, forget the utterly useless Cronje, what a sad excuse for a rugby player, another talentless Morne Steyn. Of the home based 9's Schreuder is our best bet, he was very good for the Kings. I'd add Reinach as my 3rd tour scrummie given useless Coetzee has publicly humiliated Hougaard and will never select him again - fucking idiot
My EOY tour backs would be:
15.Gelant / Coetzee14. Nkosi / Ismaeil13. Kriel / JVR12. Serf / Vorster / de Allende11. Skosan / Mapimpi10. Jantjies / Pollard / Willemse9. Faf / Reinach / Schreuder
My starting backline would be:
15. Gelant 14. Nkosi 13. Kriel 12. Serf 11. Ismaeil 10. Jantjies 9. Faf with a bench of Reinach, Pollard and JVR

Gelant in Super Rugby 32 tackles made 15 missed......for a 68% success ratio. ...9th in turnovers conceded among fullbacks, but only 28th in line breaks ... Coetzee, who is only marginal for the Boks, 5th among fullbacks in linebreaks...and 75% tackle success. .. Seems depressingly familiar.

  Sargent Detritus
Detritus began as a "splatter" at the Mended Drum. In Moving Pictures, he was used by C.M.O.T. Dibbler as hired muscle in his takeover of Century of the Fruitbat Pictures. While in Holy Wood, Detritus met and fell in love with another troll, called Ruby, who insisted that he get a better job than hitting people for money.Detritus' relationship with Ruby has been mentioned infrequently since; in Thud they are described as 'happily married-but-childless.

That was Jantjies against the All Blacks at Newlands. He put one player into space: Serfontein at minute 37:38. He made two good kicks in play - 40:29 and 52:45. The rest of his contributions are fairly aimless kicks upfield, kick-offs that went too deep time and again, a few snipes at the tryline from close in and a horde of regulation catching and passing. He challenged the line once outside of the AB 22, resulting in turnover possession for the AB. What on earth is special that performance?

Janrtjies is partly the reason that the Springbok backline s not really functioning on attack abd huis defense on test level borders on the non-existent.
I have still got the lingering doubt about -
*   his decisionmaking - he always was a programmed player and in tests it does not work out; and
*   the negative impact Jantjies has on backline play - he runs too many steps more-or-less sideway before he passes balls

Pakie I fear Jantjes may lack a bit of nous, but I cannot conclude on the guy yet as he plays well in the Lions set up - ie how much of Jantjes problems arise because of Alistair Coetzee. How bad was Jantjes at WP? Oaks must consider this. Of course one has to realize many are Jantjes fans as they love that weird hair cut!  Its like ou rooitwitterbug preferring Luke Watson to Schalk Burger - nothing to do with rugby abil ity and all to do with other things.

Do a test . . . replace your entire post - text, picture the works - with a simple dot and save the change. The margins will return to normal.
