What position did he play?
03 Nov 2014, 23:45#4
Good, hopefully he'll pick up some form and convince Gold that he's the second choice flyhalf behind Lambie.

If not Jean-Luc Du Plessis should be given a chance.

Yeah he is far better than average Zielinga. The stint with Quins will be good for him.

Don't write anyhing about Swiel - Mozart will flip a lid again.
I know Swiel is on loan to Harlequins up to January - when he will be back for the Sharks. Problem is he might be nabbed by Harkequins if he is negelected at the Sharks - like he was by White.

Swiel played relatively well in 2014 for the Sharks in his cameo appearances. It just did not seem to be part of the Jake Ball game plan.
Jake White wants to play SuperXV rugby as if it is a test match in the rain.
I thought Jake White was a good coach but as the season went on it became obvious that he just plays percentage rugby. Given how good he was for the Brumbies it was a major disappointment, but also showed that he has no understanding of backline attack play. This was probably something that he did not have to get involved in at the Brumbies.
As for Swiel, although he had good touches he seemed to be missing in action. I did not realise that he was missing the Curry Cup mostly due to injury, I thought he had been dropped as well.
It is most likely that Swiel will stay in England, or at best give it one more shot in the SuperXV next year. If he is not looking like a contender for the Boks, I am sure he will move to England.

Sharkbok is correct in this case. Swiel was not undercooked as Mozart alleges - but was killed by Jake White's line of play.
White showed that his only interest was in the kick and chase game. Outide of that it was crashball after crashball. So when Steyn played at fkyhalf donkey kicks was the norm - mostly aimless and often enough ineffective to poor. Wuith Steyn at inside center Swiel's main attributes were killed. He was able to cut out Steyn at times and that led to one or two tries by the Sharks - but that was apparently lnot appreciated by White.
Te kick and chase game was partlyy effective - but in the play-offs for Super 15 the Shark managed to squeeze through - losing badly in the semi-final - showing the serious limitations in that game plan.
Swiel is not a kick and chase champion - even though when he does kick the ball it is more accurate and efective than that if players like the Steyn's. With a different approach and game plan there is every chace that he would show his real value. However if he does play at flyhalf and F rancois Steyn at 12 in Super 15 next year - the Sharks will have the same dreaded dead backline syndrome they showed this year. As Sharks supporter I hope we are past that unfortunate era in Sharks rugby and with Dr Venter around that may just happen.
Swiel should have stayed to play for the Stormers - he is a more inventive flyhalf than either Catrakillis or Coleman. If Smal was their before Super15 this year he would never have allowed for Swiel to leave the Stormers.

I am never disappointed by the sheer rubbish people believe. This is a guy with a light frame and pace. How I ask you with tears in my eyes, is he going to run from 10 in top rugby today? There is no space, you have to take on the tackle and ride it. With Swiel that's never going to happen....and the loosies will own him on the run.

Mozart
No space for flyhalfs? How come Pollard scored two tries in the last test? it is all crap - and justification for one dimensional flyhalf play so evident in th Steyns - who were in fact as clueless as they come.
The issue here is variation of play - not kick and chase or deed backline syndrome.
It was not necessary for the loosies to defend against Morne and Francous - they hd to go - in the case of them passing of the ball for the unfortunate recipients. The two Steyns never attacked the gain line and when Francois Steyn was at inside center he hugged the ball and crashballed all the time.
However, your statement is rubbished completely by he NZ flyhalfs who are regularly involved in attacking backline play.
Wh en will you ever stop writing tripe and pretend it is the real issue you are addressing. Srtart thinking before you write crap - that would help.

Mozart
Since your previous argument of "no spac" have been flattened completely - now over to defense. So lets look at the now BS with a clear idea off what was going on:-
* In Super 15 this year the wort defending flyhalf was Francois Steyn - just go and check the stats again.
* In the tests since 2013 Morne Steyn was the worst defending flyhalf in test rugby.
So is size a factor in defencse - not a chance. There is a slight possibility that smaller gyuys get run over by bigger forwards/layers - in teh famous Jordaan case it happened twice in TWO YEARS - but that is the extent of where it may end if the smaller guys are good defenders. Trty the defense stats on Fransie and then come back with you theory again.
Balls as per normal of Mozart. None of Carter, S exton, Cruden and Barraett are big guys - but then Mozart prefers the lumbering slo cart horses and players with no ability to read games and decide on options as flyhalfs . Try again - before you write tripe AGAIN.
