The Boks are so well equipped to defend their WC title At fullback we have Willie, backed up by Gelant and Willemse. On the wing we have Mapimpi, Nkosi, Kolbe, Arendse and Moodie. Take your pick. At outside centre we have the world class Am, with in my opinion, Rohan Janse v Rensburg as his best back up option. At inside centre we have de Allende, Esterhuizen and Willemse. At flyhalf we have Pollard with Libbok and Jantjies as back ups. At scrumhalf we have too many options, narrowing it down to 2 or 3 is going to be challenging. Faf for sure with back ups in Hendrikse, Reinach, Williams, Nohamba, Papier and Zak Burger. At loosehead we have two world class options in Kitshoff and Ox, with Thomas able to cover there At hooker we have Marx, Mbonambi and Dweba At tighthead it’s the unsung hero Malherbe with Thomas du Toit, Wilco Louw, Nyakane and Koch as back ups At lock we have the two best in the game in Etzebeth and RG Snyman with Lood and Jenkins as back ups. At openside we have captain Kolisi with Kwagga as the back up and of course old man Fourie At blindside we have PSDT, with JL du Preez and Vincent Tsituka as back ups. The bolter in Ruan Venter. At 8 we have Wiese, Roos, Dan du Preez and Elrigh Louw as options, not to mention Emmanuel Tsituka and Marcel Coetzee. We have Rassie as our coach

It's quite depressing reading that list. Seeing it come from you is like listening to a hobo give one a proud tour of his meagre belongings.

Agree mostly Saffex, especially among the forwards where it's more a question of who do we have to leave out rather than include.

Disagree on #10 and #13 though. We'll have a real problem if Pollard or Am gets injured.

Manie Libbok's general play is excellent but his place kicking is dodgy at best. Elt on Jantjies is the opposite. I trust his place-kicking - especially under pressure - but his general play is a big question mark.

Rohan Janse van Resnsburg is a #12 and his form hasn't been that great the last two seasons. I think Jesse Kriel will be selected as Am's understudy and he's never taken any of the many opportunities he's received at test level.

We're very thin at flyhalf and outside centre.

I've always liked Jantjies ability to create and held it as one of his best attributes. Unfortunately, DDA and the general Bok way of playing negates most of what Jantjies is good at.

When he had his best years, at the Lions, he was playing with a very attacking inside pair that could time runs and didn't see themselves as loose forwards but as backline players. Jantjies, RJVR and Mapoe were the clear combination that the Boks should have gone with. It wasn't even close.

What a waste...

Yeah agreed Rooi, Pollard and Am are vital and we don’t have obvious standouts to replace them. Disagree on JVR form I think he has been good for the Sharks of late and is able to slot in at 13 where he has played a game or two for the Sharks this season. Jessie Kriel has regressed since moving to Japan, become quite robotic. We have a few potential gems at 13 who are not being invested in, no more so than Similane at the Bulls and Marnus Potgieter at the Sharks. I also really like the look of Xamlashe at Griquas who had a short loan stint with the Lions. Henco v Wyk of the Lions looks promising as does Sebastian de Klerk of the Pumas who is moving to the Bulls next season. But these are all works in progress. To be honest if we lost Am I’d play Willemse at 13 Yes, Libbok’s goal kicking is all over the show, evidenced by this last weekend where he effectively lost the Stormers their match against Munster with hell knows how many misses I am a big fan of Jantjies’s general play it’s his strength, lacking the hard edge has always been his weakness, much like Bosch, who to his credit is back in form. I like the look of Lombard and Hendrikse at the Lions along with Sacha at the Stormers - but again works in progress None of the above are immediate and obvious solutions to losing Am or Pollard

Another talent that has been in good form is Dan du Plessis.
