The ref somehow misses it despite it happening two metres from him.

Advantage should have run and Read should have been binned after for a professional foul on his own line, leaving New Zealand with 13 men for the final nine minutes. 

New Zealand eventually won the game 22-17.

If I have one criticism of the All Blacks- it is cynical fouls that stop opposition building momentum. It is unsporting conduct.  Mccaw was the worst, but Reid is getting worse by the day.  It is clearly part of the game plan when their small forwards are put under pressure.
The small forwards are great for 15 man rugby because there is quick support at the breakdown.

Actually Itoje did exactly the same thing against Oz and was penalized but not binned....I’m not exactly clear on the conditions that produce a yellow.

 Well we can gaurantee the Boks will not use it as a tactic, they can't win with 15. They were so used to have 16 on the field but now they cant buy the ref its been all down hill for them

Further beating the wee abs and their refs is a not easy given the roughly 20 point advantage the wee abs start with.Alas it doesn't seem like the wee abs are mending their ways. We have been whipping you since 1992 and since then the score is AB's 42 wins SA 15 and 1 draw and of those 11 were home games for you. we have won more games in SA than you have in that time (19 games). I have no idea when the quota system was put into place and would be interested to know

 Obviously when we returned to international rugby we were going to be behind the curve altho ugh  the World Cup win in 1995 disguised the fact.Its quotas but as I have said a 1000 times that quotas are NOT the only issue -and still a bonehead like you imagines I think they are. I just read an article form the All Blacks management team who claim that Reid was not cynical.... Yeah right.....
When the small All Black forwards get bullied, we do see these type of cynical tactics, unfortunately. 
It is different to competing on the ground, they know 100% that they are breaking the rules of the game.

Try lifting yourselfs up for a change instead of trying to drag everyone down to your level you will probably find its actually easier in the long run

For interest sake, lets assume that a team does get away with body blocking due to doing it very well/subtly.

If the kicking team has decided to use chip kicks as part of a counter strategy against a rush defense but can't employ the chip kick due to the kick chasers being constantly blocked. That would change the entire game for the kicking team since their main weapon against the rush defense will have been nullified and result in them simply giving the ball away.

So after eighty minutes, we might say that there were only about four or five incidents of body blocking that occurred and one some of them may even have been penalized. But it's the net effect and the forced change in tactics in the game which is really the problem.

The attacking team have to adjust their tactics due to illegal activity by the defending team. This is the part the irks me. How many points for and against do those tactics then account for at the end of the game? Impossible to say.

In cricket its much harder to cheat. But, if it were possible for the bowler to somehow hoodwink the umpire and constantly bowl from 5 foot closer to the batsman than was allowed, would we stand for it? Obviously not. There is a clear advantage there in that the batter will have less time to react to the delivery. Bowlers can't do that since its easy to spot. But in rugby, tactics that provide similar levels of advantage seem to go unnoticed all to often and are too easily employed by teams seeking to gain the upper hand.

As a fan, surely one is being denied a fair game and an honest outcome.

Refs have to be better. Technology has to be better utilized. The overhead camera can easily spot lane changing, illegal scrumming, off-sides and a few other areas of the game where incorrect calls occur very often. These changes could be brought in without much/any change in technology and by adding only a small load on the TMO's shoulders.

I know this board s divided between using tech and not using tech. I'm sure most of us want more correct calls to be made.

 Sharkbok those "small forwards" of the AB'a have been contributing to  pasting the Boks...in oh last 10 encounters...57-0 comes to mine....the Boks had one good outing in a dead rubber match.....on their home ground....with all the up to date TV equipment and TV producer in their back pocket....and still lost....to an AB team in 3rd gear.

@Polyboy, the Boks are a non-entity at the moment. This article is focussing on how the referees have become more vigilant about policing the Allblack players and fans. 
The fans especially are cynical in how they support and endorse this type of stuff... Apparently, some All Black players do not condone this, but due to pressure from the fans the All Blacks relented.
