A good day's sport . . . and it's not over yet with round 3 of the Open Championship still to finish.
As for the rugby, all i can say is thank goodness it was only one injustice done rather than two!
The Chiefs were deserved winners despite Jaco Peyper's best efforts (and Johan Greeff the TMO even more so) which was something of a relief after Marius van der Westhuizen lost the plot and decided to penalize poor Thomas du Toit every time he noticed him.
The Lions can consider themselves very lucky to win that game after nearly every scrum infringement went against a single player and Stephan Lewies's laughable yellow card. Well done to Ruan Combrinck for holding his nerve.
Sam Cane's yellow card in the Stormers game was also a complete joke. Rugby is a contact sport and if we're going to start yellow carding players for accidental head contacts then we may as well pack it in and start calling it poofball.
As for the Tour de France, Chris Froome is a machine. Next year he'll get the chance to join the legends of the sport in winning 5 editions of the world's greatest race and as much as I wanted Romain Bardet to do well, I didn't see anyone in this year's race capable of beating Froome next year. Maybe 2017 Giro winner Tom Dumoulin might stand a chance if he continues to improve his climbing but we'll only know in October when the 2018 Tour route is announced.
Come on Jordan Spieth! I'm normally not a fan of Yanks in sports but I really like this kid.
Edit: If I could edit the thread topic I'd add congrats to Branden Grace. Just flicked over to the golf after watching the rugby to see that Brande n Grace fired a 62 (!!!) to get to -4 and be on the first page of the leaderboard. Not sure he can still win it (Spieth at -9) but it must have been an incredible round!

Rooi, I'm sure SBW will agree with your "accidental" head clash theory.

Draad, only the most jaundiced, one-eyed Stompies Blowhard would call that a head butt . . . oh hang on, that explains it . . .

Rooi your Sharks are gonna be a team to watch next year. Really like their skipper. About as level headed as can be and never leaves anything on the field. Future Bok? And they've ample seemingly talented youngsters breaking through too. Despite some poor results I rate they've made good progress this year. My guess is that if they continue on this path, taking their coaching, management and players into account, they may be SA's best team in the not too distant future. Am I being too hopeful?

It was exactly the same thing as the SBW red....two tacklers, the one going high turning his shoulder in at the last second. No different in terms of the physics.....a different intent, even if it's true, doesn't change the outcome. These incidents should have received the same sanction.

Agreed Moz. He clearly dropped the arm to lead with the shoulder. I'm totally against cards and believe they should find a different sanction. I'm glad that wasn't a red, but it given previous president, it should have been red.

PS, it used to be a penalty if a attacking player jumped into a tackle, but lately the defender gets penalised for playing the opponent in the air. The Allblacks also suffered a similar penalty against the Lions.

Draad I don't think either tackle was premeditated....but I think you have to give the yellow. The SBW red was very harsh. Not because those incidents were so bad, but because the heat butt tackle is dangerous and I don't know how you separate them within the laws.

And the jump tackle rule is laughable.....in both the recent cases the player was jumping through the ball. If the tackler never engaged he was going to enable a dangerous break. There is a huge difference when the tackled player is vertical.

Baboon-ou demonstrating yet again that he is too stupid to string a coherent sentence together!
Well done Jordan Spieth! He hit a big speed bump with the penalty at the 13th but boy did he show some steel after that!

My loss to the Stormers? Beans, in case you haven't noticed, my team lost to just about everyone this year. What makes the Stormers so special? I worte the Bulls off half way through the season. On Saturday I was shouting for the Stormers, so I am not sure what you are on about?
