I always thought Mike Brown was a decent enough player who might struggle to make an impact at the top level but he certainly proved me wrong today. Not sure who they named man of the match but it would be a travesty of justice if it wasn't Brown.
The Vunipola brothers also carried the ball very strongly whenever they were involved. The only Wallaby worth a mention was Adam Ashley-Cooper whose tackle on Marland Yarde was pure class.
Well done England! Yet another wake-up call for those arrogant antipodeans who think the Northern Hemisphere countries can't compete with the Southern Hemisphere.

Sorry to differ - but I was  not really impressed from what I have seen today.   The English win was not that impressive - but they got a massive help from the one line judge  in particular when the catcher of the ball was clearly  out and the line judge buggered up badly - they should have gone for the TV ref in that case - since the line judge was seemingly unsighted.   The resultant play led to a try for the English and not for the attack of the Wallabies to continue 5 meters from the English tryline.

It was clear to me that the team was weaker than the one played at the EOYT last year - and I was not surprised that he Welsh beat the sh!t out of them in the 5 Nations.   They must have taken lessons from Juandre Kruger on how to handle kick ins and high balls.

Yet again the spectacle marred by IDIOTIC REFERREEING... WHEN is this game goignt o bring in a video referral ????????

That ref was a complete and utter spastic not to mention that DH linesman.... absolute crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

How long till the IRB need to look at the rules and bring in a video challenge - HAD the penalty / subsequent lineout been corrected given much different outcome to that game....

As for the "not enough of an obstruction" didnt know that was a rule??????!!!!!!!

The poms had nothing Australia were severely robbed - anyway guess the following of rugby isnt important anymore for any one to DO anything about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111

Its not arrogant when you just have a passing glance at the win loss record SH vs NH ,does any NH team have a winning record against the SANZAR nations ? 6-1 for RWCs .Still as an ABS fan I worry about all teams we play prior to kickoff !But as I said before congrats to England and commiserations Oz ,still I will allways barrack for SH teams vs England .

Yet another wake-up call for those arrogant antipodeans who think the Northern Hemisphere countries can't compete with the Southern Hemisphere

Why can they only do it in their back yards? NZL will go anywhere in the world and beat any team. SA and Aus have proven the same in the past. SA will/should struggle against France in Paris but that same French team can come to SA and we will beat them 13+ every game! Same as England. Only reason we didnt put bigger scores on them 2 years ago is because that was our first year with many new combinations. Let them come to SA and play this team we have now or go to NZL and play them there. Men against boys!

I hope NZL put them in their place this year. SH rugby is well ahead of NH. Just look at the British and Irish Lions. That is the best of the NH teams and Aussies were struggling. Catching hidings from SA and NZL yet the first test almost belonged to the Aussies and the 2nd did! The best they had to offer couldnt breeze past a suffering Aussie team with a winger at flyhalf. Do you think a "SANZAR Lions" team would battle past England? Not a chance in hell. B&I LIons wouldnt even beat NZL or SA alone and we can play them at Twickenham all 3 tests if they wish!

Just one question - if the match officials buggered up when it involves the Springboks - it is almost a heinous crime - when they do to favour England it is nothing of the sort and it can be ignored.   Any bias in that or just standard Mozart stuff duplicated by you?

 Well done England??????
That was by far the worst test match of the year and the worst I've seen in a long time. I don't think that any of the 2 teams deserve any kind of congratulation.
England played crap and they clearly benefited from the ref 's mistakes. Clancy is probably the worst ref at test level, he has no idea of refereeing, he spent the entire match making bad calls in every possible situation, scrums, lineouts, breakdowns, offsides,....  resulting 2 of them crucial on the outcome of game.
If Tuilagi is missing the english backline doesn't exist. Farrell is just a goal kicker and yesterday even that he made wrong. Mike Brown was a well deserved MOM but just for not having screw it up like all his team-mates.
Australia didn't do it better and were unable to mantain the advantage. In this chapter Genia deserves a mention, he himself with his kicking was enough to mantain the poms on the game. A well deserved worst-MOM

Well said Abasquefan.I also found the match to be very boring and not worthy of any congragulations. It was another referee cock up that was the main determining point of the match.
Genia was not getting much protection from his forwards, but he looks to have returned to the out of form Genia we have seen for most of the season.

Congrats - you summed up the match better than I ever could.   and the reffing was wicked - part of the reason why the match did not flow better.

I do not think the English team has a snow-balls hope in hell against the AB's and see some real problems for them against the Argentinians as well - provided the latter has their full team and if they have a reasonable referee.

Yes well done to England, that was pretty pathetic of Oz given the number of games they have under the belt.

Blaming the officials will not distract from the fact that Oz are sinking at a rapid rate.

Rooi, Brown was named MOM, he is a quality player, always looks to attack from the back and seems always able to slip that first tackle. He is keeping Ben Foden out of the side, who himself is a class act.

Yarde is a real find for England, is a try scoring machine for London Irish and was huge for the England U20 side for the past few years. This youngster is going to score many test tries

Abasquefan: well you must be really pissed off because I have never heard such straight talk from you . As a matter of good sportsmanship I always congratulate the winner but you are right of course it was a sad spectacle & then when you compare it to the 2 games ABs v Boks it was a joke. Even the ABs v Oz was a good game. Hope this is not what we can expect as the norm on this tour. Wales & France usually give a good game.
The ruling bodies have to keep trying to get more consistency between SH & NH rulings. They have tried & failed so far.

 @clevermike,

let see what happens next week but Argentina is going to Twickenham in the worst way possible having quit the whole managing team, Henry included, with the players confronted btwin them and the captain, and soul of the team, injured.
If they were the same team that played the RC I would bet for them. England base their game in their set pieces but as we saw yesterday without Corbisiero and Parling they have many problems to impose themselves on scrums and line-outs. The lineouts were specially messy and that Tom Youngs didn't seem like a test player, I didn't see too much of him but if he usually performances like yesterday.... even Hartley was looking better when he came out.
A regular Argentina would cause them many problems but in this case....

 @just win,

do I look so pissed off?
no, I'm not really pissed off but I like to watch good rugby and yesterday's was, in my opinion, really poor in every aspect.

I like the game played by Wales the most in Europe but they usually perform under they level in november. I think I read that they don't win a november test since 2009 or so. Last year they lost all their matches at home including those against Argentina and Samoa, 2 inferior teams on the paper.
But nothing to worry about, the All Blacks will bring us the spectacle, as always.

Abasquefan: sad to hear about Argentina's problems. I agree they could really give England a tough game if they played up to their potential.
I have always liked Welsh rugby but they too are going through some tough times.
I hope we get some good games but we may have seen the best games already this year (in the SH). At least the tours help SH teams get familiar with the NH game & refs & promote rugby. Gets us ready for the RWC.

Are you planning on going to any of the RWC games?
I am thinking about it & as I live in Europe costs will not be so high as if I had to come from NZ or US.

Oh, I forgot the Maories and they are playing this evening. They can offer.a good spectacle also.

Afeaki and Luke Braid could be in the AB, both have been the most inform in their positions last SR season. Liam Squire have had a very good ITM campaign and Elliot Dixon played at great level the time he was given due to Nasi Manu's injury.
I just saw Manawatu's Chris Eves twice but he was really awesome with the ball in hand. Ihaia West is another one coming from the bench worth to follow.

I was planning on going to London this november, a nephew is now living there and I would love to see how the AB take revenge thumping the poms. But finally I can't... work issues.
It would be really awesome to see them winning their first away World cup

Yes, the Maori All Blacks play great rugby normally so let's hope that is a good one.
I have made plans to go to different games in Europe and only managed to get to see one, i.e. ABs play v.  Wales.  Usually family things get in the way & that takes priority.
I will check out how to get tickets for the RWC. It would be fantastic to see AB v France or AB v England even if not a RWC game. AB v England in Twikenham has to be fantastic with the crowds singing. I will be there eventually, lol

"Well done England??????"
Yes ABasquefan, that's right, I said "well done England".
I'm 100% certain that Stuart Lancaster and the England rugby team couldn't give a flying toss if you personally found the game exciting or of a high quality or not, they went out there with one purpose in mind and that was to win the game . . . and well done to them for getting the result they wanted.
Unlike you, I believe a winning team always deserves congratulations and if you're going to have a little whine every time I congratulate the winning team then I suggest you avoid my threads when your favourite team loses because I'm not going to change just because the game wasn't exciting enough for you. No-one said it was a classic, no-one claimed it was a high quality test match but there was a winner and there was a reason why that team won . . . because they played better . . . and that is all that matters in test rugby.
Oh and if you think that George Clancy decided the outcome of that game then there's another reason to stay off my threads because - as most people on this board know - I get pretty sick and tired of self-righteous losers who always blame the ref when their side loses and I don't have a lot of time for you ref-bashing squealers who like to think you could do a better job than the world-class professionals who are actually qualified and have the experience to handle real life rugby test matches.
Yes, I know Mike Brown's feet were touching the line when he caught the ball but if you've actually played a game of rugby in your life you'll know that these wrong decisions balance themselves out in the long run and the incident in question happened so many phases before the try was scored so as not to be of any great consequence at all.
I'll say it again, well done England!
PS, the plural of Maori is "Maori", not "Maories".

I don't care if ABasquefan is a cross between Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Theresa, if he's going to have a little moan because I congratulate a winning team then he can shove off.
Hopefully he's not such a self-important twat and after reading this, he'll concede that I have the right to congratulate a winning team if I want to.

sorry if I bothered you but I didn't want to be harsh on you, I pretended to be harsh on England's game which was a crap and don't think that deserves any congratulation even if they won.
I cannot be a "self-righteous losers who always blame the ref when their side loses" since I didn't care who was going to win, none of them was my side. But I do think that the ref influenced the outcome of the game

 Thank, Rooinek.

It was a strange match, which I feared it would be and I wasn't sure we would get a win when I saw the team sheet, actually.

Just a few points I would like to stress here, just to put a few things straight. If Parling had not been injured he would have started, but he had a slight concussion in training. Attwood is coming back from injury hence his place on the bench, not in the starting line up. So, Lawes and Launchbury started. This we knew would be problematic as Lawes was charged with calling the Line Out, something he doesn't do and I am not sure he can......that became clear, didn't it ? As we are building to the RWC, the players are being asked to expand their skill sets. This may or may not work.  So, to blame Tom Youngs is very harsh. Our Scrum was fine, he did well around the pitch and it was the lack of success in the Line Out that caused that issue and a few wobbles there. We would have had such a mass of possession if our Line Out had functioned in the first half and Farrell had nailed those 3 Penalties, or the majority of the them, that I don't think you could have questioned who was on the front foot....could you ? So, look at things a little more objectively now please.
I would also like to point out that the weather was most peculiar. There had been a downpour 30 mins or so before ko, so the ground was very slippy in certain points, Farrell slipped with one kick at goal and missed 3 at that end, Cooper missed 2 at the same end. Both had 100% records at the other end of the pitch. The wind was also swirling very strangely in the ground, so I am told. It always does swirl in the ground, but we are having very high winds here at the moment and the wind picked up as the day progressed.
Also, by the time Hartley arrived on the pitch, the Line Out had been sorted and I believe Attwood had entered the fray too. He is not a better player than Tom Youngs, he is not a better player than Rob Webber, who I believe should have been in the Squad ahead of him and he almost cost us a Try.

Mike Brown was where he should always be, at Fullback. He is a good player.
Twelvetrees was very poor indeed. I expect him to be replaced for the next match.
But this is the point, we are trying a whole new set of players yet again !

And, as for Farrell being simply a kicker. Strange he scored a Try, kicked the majority of his goals and made 10 tackles. Yep, he was useless !!

Our useless Captain also made 13 tackles, which I'm sure is rubbish.
At least we got to practice our defence. Always comes in handy, I find.

And yes, the Ref etc got it wrong. I agree. But Aus had plenty of chance to tackle players en route to the line. I do agree that it was very poor of the officials though...yet again.

nothing wrong with congratulation a team for their win, after all they can only play with whats in front of them.
none of the bungling calls made by the officials was englands fault and every country has benefited and been hurt from BS calls, so its all que sera sera IMO.

cliches aside, it was a game of two halves, aussies was stronger in the first half and the english were stronger in the second.

englands fullback was impressive and deserved MOTM, billy vunipola had a great debut and owen farrel was solid even if his goal kicking wasnt.

i dont understand how the official and TMO could have screwed up those two calls which led to the two english trys though.
the touchie was staring directly at brown when he made that catch while foot was on the line, im guessing that from his angle, mike brown looked perfectly all right.
the obstruction for farrels try is not understandable though, and i hope thats the last we see of irish dude kilgore in the TMO seat, cos his definition of obstruction needs to be rebooted.

wallabies took their foot of the pedal in the second half, and their forwards were completely kak again, they are always going to be on the backfoot come scrumtime now, cos their reputation of having a girly man pack is reaching legendary status.

mackenzies whole reshuffling of the captain before their first big game was also not smart, but dumb moves is becoming a mackenzie trademark as australia now start to realise that deano was by far the better coach for the wallabies.

I enjoyed the match even though you could see both teams were very nervous to begin with.

The Ozzies are in big trouble if that's the best they can muster ... especially against a bunch of new recruits.

As long as Cooper plays ... need I say more. He is useless. O'Connor should have been left at 10.

Genia's loss of form didn't help the issue either. Neither did changing the captaincy. It seems Horwill refuses to respect Mowen as the newly appointed cpt.

Looks like there's alot more strife going on behind the scenes than we're aware of and I'm willing to bet that Porkie Pig is behind it all.

So pleased to see him struggling ... just deserts if you ask me. Deans must be enjoying every Wallaby test match.

Pity the ref spoilt it as a spectacle. The Ozzies were robbed.
