Wes Fofana makes the Planet Rugby Team of the Championship

 We are so conditioned in Bok rugby, to look for the power player.....hence the acceptance of Fransie earlier this year. And of course there is the SBW model....stand and deliver, as it were.

But there is another model, personified by Fofana, who shows an average sized chap can still make it at 12 in big tests.

Personally I would still go for a power player like Nonu, SBW or Roberts at 12....with Fofana of the devastating step at 13. But it's refreshing to see something of a return for sheer pace and elusiveness at centre. Backing this up Ebersohn at 12 makes the TOW.

Fofana is a good player and I suspect he is bigger than his stats at 89kg show. He looks to have muscled up as all modern players do. There is certainly a place for his skill at test level and at 90ish kg, he sits at the minimum for a centre.

His superior skill will outweigh the 5kg or so that a Barritt has over him. To make it as a smaller player, you need that something special, Fofana has it, as do Halfpenny, as did Williams. Fofana has played on the wing, so given his status at 12, 13 would be an easy move for him.
