If he can't kick, why must he continue to prove this week after week.

His service at the base of the ruck was so slow it looked like he was playing with a back brace on. Reinach made a fool out of him when reading what Hougaard was going to do, before Hougaard himself with that intercept try.

What a poor pass....

And Fouche looks like a loose forward playing at flyhalf.

With this combination, the centres should not be expecting much quality in possession .

I was really hoping Hougaard would have a good year, with a quiet pre season and a clean sheet to start off with it was a good platform to launch himself off. But he flopped. Badly.
Marcel Van Der Merwe was the only Bull I was impressed with.

Hougaard had a solid game but for that one crap kick, for the rest, his box kicks were good, one leading to a big gain in ground.......but lets face it, kicking is not a strength and the less he kicks the better

He can't kick, he can't pass, even his tackling has gone off. Dave its four years since Hougaard was a dangerous runner....time to move on. I quite like the look of another Francois....Francois de Klerk of the Lions. A strong boy with good instincts and lots of guts.

With respect Hougaard was crap yesterday - he had am extremely poor game.   Descriptions like ascribed by you do not remove the fact that he was not the scrumhalf he used to be.   His service was slow and ineffective.

Ah yeah that joke of a try where Bresler not only impeded the Bulls jumper, but he also knocked the ball on.

If that was a measure of Hougaards passing for the night, then the less I say the better!!

Regardless of whether a knock on occured, a player must play to the whistle. It does not change the fact that that pass was the worst so far in 2014.

Yes he was under pressure and the ball was slippery, but no one else made such a shocking pass on the day. However he is a professional rugby player and a scrumhalf.
Bottom line it was not up to standard and does not instill confidence if he was playing for the Boks in the 2015 World Cup final with a lineout on the bok line.

Oh what crap, he is human, the ball was slippery......its pathetic that anyone could point fingers at such an incident. Pressure had stuff all to do with it.....the conditions did and the ball was spilt by various players on both sides throughout the evening.

Let's look at it this way, what did he do that was good?  He gained 7 metres in 4 runs...managed to slip one tackle. But he turned over the ball twice and made only 4 of his 7 attempted tackles.
He conceded the Reinach try and botched an attempt to get over th Bools line, with players outside him. He was a bit of a balls up

Rubbish, his distribution was good, he had a few good kicks and he was one of many who went for the line. He had a solid enough game after a long lay off. He was anything but bad..........the Reinach try should never have been a try for 2 reasons

Saffex has one problem - if he supports a player - that player always have a good game - he could have a shocker - but it still was a good game.   Excuses flow like water over a waterfall,

Hougaard had a shocker despite his statement to the contrary.  Hougaard has been poor since 2012 - when Meyer with reason removed him from the scrummie position - and yesterday was just a continuation of the poor performances he had since then,

Hougaard 0/0 0 7/40/4 7 0 1 1 2 4/3 0/0 0 0/0

One only have to look at what Reinach produced and then realize how bad Hougaard was compared to Reinach:-

Reinach 1/0 5 4/30/9 14 1 4 2 0 5/1 0/0 1 0/0

Cool down - if based on yesterday's game I had to select a Springbo scrummie - Hougaard's name would be the last one I would consider of the four players who played.

He was not solid as you said - too many basic errors

I do not think that he is the player he used to be and cannot justify selection to the Springbok team on present form - ie the form he was in since 2012..

"He was a bit of a balls up"...couldn't say it better myself, Moz. And what a shame, the zip, crackle and pop he possessed is gone, much the same as it went with Spies.

Hougaard could easily have been a factor, the next big thing..it must be the demons within.

I have concluded that Hougie should join Morne in France.
As far as scrumhalves go in RSA he is not even in the top six.
Neither am I impressed with Lambie or Goosen. Like the Lions flyie as well as the guy from the Stormers.
Does anyone know what has happened to Daniels.
Also was amazed to read that some bloggers omitted Willie le Roux from their selections.

Denny I don't want to speculate about his issues, but he seems to have them. For years now we have watched his journey back to scrummie, from whence he  came. It's not getting better

Its mental with Hougaard. Lost the edge and just going through the motions. He needs a change of scenery - go play overseas or something. Noticeable difference when van Zyl came on
So impressed with Reinach. Had his backline attacking the gainline all night long - will he be the one to finally put his hand up for the Bok scrumhalf position and challenge FDP?
Pienaar, for all his success up north has proven to be nothing more than a place-holder for the Boks

I have been saying that Hougaard has a mental block about scrummie play and that block reduces his capacity to perform.   That could perhaps be changed - but it is difficult - if not impossible - unless there is a complete change of scenery and there is no sign of that.

U will bot at all be surprised if Hougaard does not start this week.  He was just not up to standard.

Hmmm, the scapegoat. Hougaard was actually quite good given the circumstances. What we have here are very poorly informed people seeing that a kick wasn't good, then pointing to the player they hate most - note how not one person has mentioned Fouché! Hougaard had one bad kick the entire game. His passing from the base was very sharp and quick. He made a couple of clever quick snipes. In short, the Bulls lose had nothing whatsoever to do with him. Why are we even discussing him? Fouché was the problem, his replacement was scarcely any better. The Bulls mauled strongly, carried strongly but their 10-12 axis was extremely weak. Their 15 was all but anonymous. Basically their attack is going to take some time to sort out, and they must settle with an adequate 10 as quickly as possible. But I wouldn't be surprised if Ludeke gets them in good shape sooner rather than later.

And the moon is made of green cheese.  It s weird how you cannot see that tour favoured players flopped badly.

"Basically their attack is going to take some time to sort out, and they must settle with an adequate 10 as quickly as possible."

Sure - it will take some time to improve. Replace Hougaard first before that happens - he was bad since 2012 and Meyer could not fix that.   Lydeke has been at it ever since - and there is zero improvement.

I think they will replace Hougaard with Van Zyl this weekend and bring in the Morne Steyn clone - Pollard - as flyhalf.   That will ensure a better servic e to the flyhalf - but whether their attack will improve is a moot point.   It will inevitably be an improvement - but every change will be - it cannot be as worse as it was on Saturday since it will involve the removal of the clueless Hougaard.   .

Spot on Sun, there was nothing wrong with his service at all and to say that v/Zyl improved things is a crock of shit.

Hougaard has been out for months, this was his first game back........in time, we will see his attacking clout back in full swing.......for now he just needs to keep his service sharp and continue to build on a solid enough start.

Keep on thinking that - but as you know most people do not agree with you about a "solid start".   He has shown nothing since Meyer with reason dropped him as scrummie in 2012 - matter of fact he goes further back every time he played since then.   His "service sharp"  must be he joke of the week.

Am afraid he is not likely to see another start at scrummie soon - I am sure Van Zyl will replace him this week.

With any luck we may see the back of Pienaar. He was supposed to provide accurate kicking but has never delivered. So we ended up with a slow, passive inaccurate kicker. Not one of Meyer's best decisions.
