What can the All Blacks and the Springboks learn from Round 1

Round 1 of the Championship has been played with runaway victories by the All Blacks and the Springboks. Normally run-away victories is a bad way of assessing team capabilities and deficiencies are normally ignored That in a way is short sighted and can be counter-productive in more competitive games to come. In the latter regard let us refer to what happened last year in the RC. After an easy win in Cape Town - the Spriongboks was disgustingly poor in Mendoza and Brisbane. That just show how fortunes can change if deficiencies are not dealt with. Problem is they won't be and then the results could be counter-productive. Now lets get back to deficiencies. THE ALL BLACKS There are basic problems in respect of - * Line outs - they were a mess yesterday. * There is a problem in the midfield defence of the AB's - Nonu was poor, but one cannot blame him alone. * Not really the best and the players of thWallabies - who were poor against the B&R Lions in some respect got the better over the All Black props. I cannot think of potential alternatives to the line-out scrumming problems referred to above. The AB players utilized are the best in New Zealand at present - so the answer has to be to improve their recniques to improve the situation. SPRINGBOKS There are a number of players who produced very little of real substance or where alternate players would not improve on the iteam. These include - * Basson on the wing * the low-mobility loosies; * Kruger as a real lacklustre player at 5 * The one-dimensional Morne Steyn Th latters goalkicking is good - but 90% of the kicks converted yesterday could have been converted by even an average goal kicker. All the above would come real outcome-deciding issues when the two teams meet in three weeks time.
