It told us that Meyer was a complete fool for leaving Willie out against Wales.......what a player this guy is. Has to be one of the first names on the team sheet these days.

JP had a far better test this week, looked like the JP we know.

Fourie was awol for most the match and was clumsy when he did contribute.......has the body of an old man these days.

Jean and Habana had quiet games

Lambie was solid and du Preez better than he has been in the last few weeks.

Steenkamp certainly did not prove he was better than any of the youngsters that should be playing ahead of him. Our scrum improved when Beast replaced him.

Strauss was his usual good self and Malherbe was solid until his injury.

Bakkies looked all of 34, the pace of test rugby is a step too far

Flip gets better and better, is now comfortable as a test player

Louw was at best solid, Alberts and Vermeulen were good.

Coetzee had a good game, was very visible and put in many tackles.

Coenie had a good game, was very strong in the scrums in combo with Beast and Bismark

At least we did not stumble past a weak Scottish team this time round

The Joost v/d Westhuizen interview brought tears to my eyes - poor man

Saffex

I am more or less in agreement with you though I think that under the circumstances Lambie really had a good game - no defensive lapses.   I still prefer him to the average Morne Steyn.

I thought Bakkies and Fourie were pathetic.   They are just not up to standard and as you said the pace if the game is just too fast for them.   May e good club players - but not international material anymore.

Steenkamp side of the scrum was iffy at best.   Time for him to be replaced.

Just wonder when some of the great Bakkies and Fourie supporters will show their faces.   Bet they are going to say Botha and Fourie had under the circumstances good games.   Fourie was bad last week and worst this week.

Saffex, other than your very first sentence which I think is unfair and prejudiced, there's not much in your analysis that I disagree with.
I think you're being very harsh on Heyneke Meyer who may not be the world's greatest selector but he's a good coach and a decent person . . . unlike his predecessors Twakkie who was just an idiot and the thoroughly unlikeable Joke White who always had that supercilious sneer slapped all over his face and who behaved like a pathetic crybaby whenever he was criticised. When Heyneke is criticised he takes it like a man and often even agrees wholeheartedly with the criticism.

Like you I have been baffled by some of his selections, particularly Bakkies and the Japan-based players, but hey, 1 out of those 3 came good today so it's not all bad. Very pleased to see JP Pietersen showing some of his thrust again and I also agree that Jaque Fourie and Bakkies Botha are both looking well past it.
If we give the Frogs a good smack next week it will be one of our best November tours in recent memory . . . and if you lot can't give Meyer credit for that then you're too far gone and there's probably nothing Meyer can do to ever change your minds.

W ell done Bokke!

Rooi, there is nothing prejudiced in calling Meyer a fool for leaving Willie out initially for he is just that.

Agreed Meyer is a nice guy and I love his passion......I just cant stand some of his selections and what those selections have done to players that shone all year only to be rewarded by being dropped to the bench in favour of some old farts who look way out of their depth for the simple reason that they have past it.

Mr Michael showing his anti-Bull prejudice again. The cinditions were atrocious for sctumming so we really learned very little in that regard again. The lock duo were not selected for lineout prowess rather sheer force in the collisions to blunt the Scots ability to lay any kibd of platform down. Little possesion came Fourie's way but his channel wad secure - which is a vast improvement over JJ! Lambie predictably failed to deliver on the hype as our visionary Du Preez was a solitary spark at halfback. Willie was very goid at fullback, I have to crefit him; wing however remains his best position by far. Overall? Meyer won the battle of strategy and that really was were the Boks won; delivering on that strategy.

Nothing wrong with JJ's channel, so stop speaking crap......his stats against NZ in two tests was better than Jean's......it was one miss short of a perfect defensive record against the best side in the game so stop making it up as you drag along.

12 tackles with 1 missed against NZ tells me we have a sound defender, who actually knows how to make an impression with ball in hand unlike the carthorse Fourie, who looks slower than the Beast

It told us the Meyer is on the right track. This was the best score against Scotland in Scotland for many a year.
It was only 2-3 years ago that the Boks lost to Scotland.

Scotland usually are pathetic. They routinely finish last in the 6 nations.
Anything less than a 20 point win is unacceptable.

I also havent seen the match and was rushing out so forgot to tape it so will watch it on Tuesday. Saw the last 10 minutes on returning home. I see the article on the home page selected Louw as man of the match. More egg for snapster. In these conditios imagine having Kolisi playing!!Louw apparently will be okay but it appears Malherbe has hurt his ribs and his tour may be over. Hope not.

Here is the stats of Fourie:-

Handled the ball 8 times - passed three times and carry 5 times making 7 meters in the process - about 1,4 meter per carry  - no asset in attack,   He knocked the ball on twice and gave away 2 penalties.   No asset in ball handling.   He made 8 tackles - but what was not mentioned was that in 3 cases during th game opposition player ran past him without him even attempting a tackle.

If the above is any good then I will eat my hat.   Last week  - but for the off-side try which should never have been - Fourie was putrid.   He was even worse today.

And we will see Fourie at 13 against France........alas........Fofana is going to have a field day.......he can rest in the knowledge that he will have to do little defensive work as Fourie provides ZERO with ball in hand and he will smile in the knowledge that he only has a carthorse to beat........Fourie has had it easy so far..........Davies for Wales made him look stupid.........but only lasted 20 min.......against Scotland, he had a bunch of pretenders to contain...........the old man is going to be exposed against France in a big way........and its going to be a case of 'we told you so'.

Jean's defence isn't the best, he constantly pops out the line for the intercept and was caught out for it against the All Blacks for Barrett's try. JJ's defence hasn't been exploited by opposition and he's held his own but he needs to improve it as I expect someone who's playing the Boks to not only worry about his channel but be able to cover other defenders channels if they get beaten.

I know and had relative success against a poor Scotland team by blocking options from the ball carrier, but against smart opposition he'd give attackers space to get behind him.

With respect - since when is line out work not important for a lock?   And If it was to blunt the attack by the Scots - how come Botha missed more tackles than he made?  It is not anti-Bull sentiment - it is facts we are dealing with here.

Lambie was much more effective today  than Morne ever was - at least he took all his tackles - not the sieve Morne is in that position.

Just one question - granted the conditions for scrumming was atrocious - how come Malherbe never collapsed a scrum - while St eenkamp did it constantly?

I wouldn't blame Jacque Fourie just yet... Our centres have been quite good for most of the year which includes JdV.... and in the last two matches where JdV was much less effective as well, our centres were playing outside wunderkind... You know, the one who "ignited" the Sharks back-line all of the S15, to take them to their nth super title...

Where n < 1

The_truth

Lambie had a better game on Saturday than the last 15 games of Morne.  Let me point out the real weak ones involving the really crap Morne games

*   The June test against Scotland

*   The Super 15 Sharks game

*   The Super 15 Stormers game

*   The Super 15 Semi-final - major contributor to the loss

*   The Mendoza game against Argentina

*   The Eden  Park Test - could not even kick penalties out of touch

*   The Ellis Park Test - diabolically poor defence and decisionmaking

In all the other games he was average at best - in the games listed he was seriously problematic.   You are indeed welcome to have this one.   Incidentall Morne never provide anything to the tries being scored - matter of fact the real spark to the backline was Willie le Roux - when Morne was involved the backline produced next to nothing, he had no impact on the scoring of backline tries and only one try was scored and that is when he made aan inside pas to Vermeulen who scored a try in the Soweto test.

At least Lambie attacked the gain line himself and pass the ball while going forward.  Morne never does that and if he does pass the ball it is from a virtually standing still position.
