There seems to be an improvement in backline performances - but the problem is too many handling errors/ However whether the teams have really showed advancement from where they were last year will only become clear from the future matches in the next three rounds.
The Stormers
Lleyd is not a full backs backside - or perhaps he is. He is useless under accurate high balls and his defense is seriously defective. I have similar problems with the two wings.
Willemse was an eye-opener - he was excellent and on the day the best-performing of the four flyhalfs playing. He is only 19 years old - but he uis a class act already, One for the future.
The Storners needs to find another scrummie - the starting one yesterday was out of zinc with the rest of the backline and playing a different style of rugbt from the rest of the backline. The bench scrummie looked better.
From the Tight 5 Schickerling was top class and a deserved MOM.
I fear that the Stormers loosies will cause future losses to the team.
The Lions
Their scrumming were good - especially I'm the first half - was good, Their line-outs wee a disgrace. Compared to Willemse Jantjies was very average.
The Sharks
Came very close to beating the Lions but their ball handling defects cost them dearly. Robert du Preez had a better game than Jantjies.
