The Blitzbokke is apparently preparing for the next World series and sent a team to play in a series in Kenya and is now sending a squad to play a series in England. What is really interesting is the squad for the England competition:-
Chris Dry, Christi Grobbelaar, Dylan Sage (c), Zain Davids, Ryan Oosthuizen, JC Pretorius, Selvyn Davids, Rosko Speckman, Justin Geduld, Kurt-Lee Arendse, Seabelo Senatla, Ruhan Nel, Muller du Plessis
Sage will lead the team for this tournament as Siviwe Soyizwapi is not on this trip. Hacjivah Dayimani, who joined the Springbok Sevens squad last month, and the most experienced Blitzbok ever, Branco du Preez, were not considered due to injury/
So what have we got in the squad, Back from playing Super Rugby is Sage, Speckman, Senatla and Nel. Are these 4 players back to play Sevens permanently? It looks like that - why should they be in this squad if not so?
I have always maintianed that especially Senatla and Speckman are world class Sevens players - where they have more space to operate in than in the 15 man game and not as good in the latter format of the game, With those players back to play sevens the team will be a serious threat for other sevens teams in the world series this coming season, especially if you add Soyizwapi, Dayimani and Du Preez to the final squad and have the top class Du Plessis also in the mix.
