The boks are normally renowned for putting out big bruising forwards but the matter of fact is that that half our pack is shorter than most other teams put out. We have Kolisi standing at 1.88, Kwagge at 1.78, Ox at 1.78 and Bongi at 1.78. Not the biggest players on the park. Don't forget that Mosrter is only 1.98 and 110kg.

So hear is my big bruising pack I would put out

  1. 194 cm; 128 kg - Gerhard Steenkamp
  2. 193 cm; 120 kg - Jan Hendrik Wessels
  3. 188 cm; 136 kg - Thomas Du Toit
  4. 203 cm; 126 kg - Eben Etzebeth
  5. 207 cm; 131 kg - RG Snyman
  6. 198 cm; 110 kg - Ben Jason Dixon
  7. 200 cm; 116 kg - PSDT
  8. 195 cm; 112 kg - Elrich Louw

around 960kg pack, I was hoping for 1 ton. But all of them are tall and athletic and can motor around the park

With the introduction of the  new scrum laws is "Boere-Power" still the #1 consideration for selection?

This has been the Springboks game from day one but with the changes to the laws (I believe) this appears to neuterlize the power scrums in the opposions 25.

So do we want players who break the scales or mobile players such as Smith/Mostert?

Just asking.

The more mobile loose trio and locks as we have seen does not have to weigh as much as a hibernating bear:) The Lighter locks seem to be more durable, where the heavier packs more punch at scrum time…it works either way….have a bit of both.

So with my nunbers it is 979 kg. But just imagine standing next to these guys in a tunnel.

I would almost field this pack, let them play for 60 min and then bring on a lighter but technical sound front row like Ox, Koch and Bongi. Bring on Kwagga and Kolisi as they can wreck havoc and then bring on Nortje as a lock, might opt for 7-1 split again.

The latter team that is mention can tighten the screws on scrum penalties and line out drives and the former can just keep it simple and keep bringing the forwards around the corner.

Then, if you have kid like Sasha, that can up the game with Grant Williams lightning quick snipes. Will be a long day not the field for the Aussies.

Kolbe and Arendse can counter attack in the first 40 and then get into space in the last 20 and the game can become more expansive.

We have so many options, just to need to make it count

If you'd like to bump up your pack to over 1000kg then move Thomas du Toit to loosehead and bring in Asenathi Ntlabakanye as your tighthead. He weighs 153kg.
