This kid looked so good playing Super rugby two seasons ago for the Lions as a 19 year old, he looked good for the Baby Boks last year, is now with the Sharks and does not feature at all.

When he burst onto the scene, he was tall and lanky, had great speed and a hell of a step. He has muscled up since, but sadly seems to have slipped the net.

What is the issue with this talented kid?

Probably played against some adults and was found wanting, would be my guess.

Okay they read the SAPP rule about centres having to be  more than 90 kgs and decided a stringbean like him had no chance:

ull name Wandile Gabada Mjekevu Date of birth (1991-01-07) 7 January 1991 (age 21) Place of birth Durban, South Africa Height 1.90 m (6 ft 3 in) Weight 87 kg (13 st 10 lb) School King Edward VII School

I was just about to post that this guy was a real stick man and needed to bulk up. Maybe he didnt and got injured. Nice pace but that was it.

Mjekevu has real potential on the wing, i had the privilege to go see him play and i'll say straight up hes definitely the real deal!

The next JP perhaps.

Beeno
JP is 102 kg, so whats your point exactly? Mjekevu is a strong runner with strength its his key ability in attack, thats why at times he makes a transition to outside centre. Its certainly not just pace he has thats for sure.

Hopefully he gets noticed for the future.

Mjek is rather tall as I recall and frankly looked like he could be snapped in two. No he was fast but not a  strong runner if I have the right man here.

Glad to hear he is working hard on his conditioning. We shall see what happens but at 87 kg and a string bean he was going nowhere unless he got stronger.

Frankly I doubt the kid is going to be undiscovered if  he has real talent, and he is probably a bit of a stick man....so I'm losing no sleep over this latest Sapp discovery who is being ignored by malicious, ignorant coaches.

Nope I only posed the question - where has he gone. I cant pass judgement on him as I have not seen him in action for at least a year. All I am saying is that he looked damn good at 19 & 20. I bet you dont even know who he is......finger on the pulse as ever!!

Dave I don't have to have my finger on the pulse. If these kids have real potential we'll see them in the CC....and once they play in the S15 and succeed, it might be worth tracking them more closely. But before that happens, I'm not the fan to have a conniption every time a stringbean kid who looks good against other kids doesn't make it......that person would be you.

I stress again, I only posed the question, where has he gone. I cant vouch for his form right now, hence my question.

For the record, he made the impression as a 19 year old playing wing for the Lions in the S14 or S15 two years ago - against men!!!

Saffex

Don't know what happened to him  - cannot remember him being in any Super 15 team this year - neither in any CC squad - may have played Vodacom Cup  - but never on any higher level.  Maybe next year will give an answer whether he is still playing or whether he has faded out completely.

Heis 99kg and less than half the player that Aplon is at 76kgs. Remind us about him again when he makes the Sharks team. Until then I'd say this topic has been a bust.
