Jantjies was contracted by the Stormers despite the fact that he really is a poor flyhalf - they fell for the hype and it hits them where nobody wants to get hit.

Nothing went wrong with Jantjies - he was in the past two games the same as ever.   He displayed all the negatives he always had - but was hushed up by his PRO supporters.  He always was -

*   a poor defender;

*   clueless in attack - standing too deep in the pocket to avoid been tackled - running sideways towards the center and giving poor passes to the unfortunate recipient;

*   knocking on balls when there is a danger of him getting tackled hard (like in the Aplon case),

*    rarely ever attacks the gain line himself (he did twice tried on Saturday and the Stormers lost the ball in the process);

*    kicking away possession regularly showing nothing positive in the process.

Silky Hands has zero ball sense.   He would by accident make a certain play and it will by accident work out and the praise singing would resound for weeks to come.   As Mozart said - he is bound to cost the Stormers game after game in losses.

What has Earl Silky Hands done right the past two games?   The answer is easy - he did nothing right and was a disgrace.   Wonder how Saffex will deal with this one - would love to see him quoting Rich to prove us all wrong.  Bulshit really baffles brains in this case.

Jantjies looked like a lost person in a city - with no idea what to do to get out of it.   That stupid looks he had on his face at times during the games said it all.  In a few cases it looked like hewas asking De villiers what to do next - because he himslef was clueless.

 Ai Mike, sometimes I wonder what it is that makes an average player catch all the hype.  Jantjies is no better than Fouche from Bull country.  The Cat is much better but Coetzee and Titus let him go nê.

All arse and no class is the correct answer.

Just another wasted Green and Gold jersey in my humble opinion.

It all went wrong for Jantjies a number of years ago. Round about the same time he first decided to give rugby a try when he was just a school boy. Someone needed to tell him then and there that this is not your game jou bang gat!

Look, I am not racist. If you give me a player like Habana, Mvovo, Odwa Ndungane and the likes, I will be first to tell you they are the real deal but its clear to see Jantjies has benefitted from systems in place. I am gona say it.. If he was not a player of colour, he would not be with a super rugby union nevermind the Boks.

I feel it unnecessary to debate him this much and give the clown this much attention. He is useless but he will be there due to circumstance. Thats the final word on this matter. There really is not much to debate as he should not be mentioned in the same sentence as Lambie and them never mind compared to them. He successfully helped the Lions to some wooden spoons and my word he is doing his best to bring the Stormers that low too!!

Jantjies improved from the previous performance against the bulls, he manipulated the backplay well in some areas. The cross kick that has been implemented was orchestrated accurately its unfortunate it couldn't be finished correctly. I agree to a extent that Jantjies has some problematic issues which has been mentioned numerous of times before, the problem of kicking away possession in the oppositions half is serious issue which needs to be adressed, Grant needs to be selected as a result of that. I agree Jantjies failed to make a decent tackle against Frans Steyn, the defending is poor. Lambie has some problematic issues too which has been completely ignored recently and not mentioned at all, why isn't it a major talking point here? if Lambie needed to defend against Steyn i don't even think he'll make a attempt to tackle. Lambie lacks the ability to tackle, he would rather avoid the the collisions. At these circumstances its unacceptable, Lambie failed to make clean breaks, and couldn't attack the gainline effectively. And is now playing a boring tactical kicking oriented playstyle.

 Lucid, u are very wrong. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Lambie's defence. This has never been a talking point or a criticism of him by any professionals. He is a damn fine defender and very solid. He has played at 10, 12 and 15 at the top level and you gona tell us the man cant tackle.

Laughable really. Defence is a massive strength of Lambie's!

Saff, where are you? I'd love to hear your take on Jantjies. I am sure you'll say he had a fantastic game and did nothing wrong. I wonder how badly one of your favourites would need to play, and how many times, before you'll admit to getting it wrong?

For the record, Jantjes is not, and will never be a quality flyhalf.

I can see CleverMike sitting in front of the TV with pen and paper ... waiting for Jantjie to play.

Taking down all the negatives and leaving any positives ...

What happened to being objective, Mike?

Your starting to sound like Dimple Butt Dave!!!

Capone, what you say about Mike looking for negatives may be true, but are you trying to say that Jantjies had a good game?

Lucid

I am not really in agreement with the so-called performance imprvement by Jantjies in the game against the Sharks and always checked out the pointscoring system of the fantasy rugby sites to see what was done by players on the field of play.

In the case of Jantjies he was accorded the following points after the game against the Bulls:-

  *    Foxsport       -           0   points

  *    Test Rugby  -         -20 points

In the game against the Sharks the point allocations were as follows: -

* Foxsport         -             -10 points

* Test Rugby    -               10 points

In both cases he has a negative rating of -10 points at present - by far the poorest rating of any of the flyhalfs in the competition.    There is no way that such allocations can be described as acceptble.   Players hat came from the bench for short periods all had positive ratings on Foxsport - indicating the real extent of Jantjies poor performances.

I also looked at the Test Rugby performances of Lambie and wish to mention the following:-

Advance over gain line      -      3

Turnovers                          -       1

Tackles                              -       6

High balls caught               -       6   (cover defence)

Goal kicks                         -        4

Missed Goals                    -        1

I also looked at the Jantjies performances and the results were as follows:-

Advance over gain line    -     4

Tackles                            -     1

Goal Kicks missed          -      1   (attempted drop goal)

Lost possession              -      2

Penalties conceeded      -      1

Comparative to the first game there was a slight improvement in going over the gain line (from 2 to 4), but a serious decline in the tackle stats (from 4 to 1) and  he did not conceed a penalty in his first game.  The lost possession info remained the same (2 in each game).

In essence the performances of Jantjies in fact remained static and the fact that he did not do the goal kicks for the Stormers this week was his saving grace.

Lambie had an extremely passive attacking match and that iis really not acceptable - but he did not have the negatives noticeable in Jantjies.

Capone

You are 100% correct  - I do have a pen and paper when looking at matches - but I am not targetting only Jantjies.    I have written negative comments elsewhere on players like Carter, Whitelock, Lambie, Hougaard, Francois Steyn, Barrett, Cooper, etc - you name them and I got them.   I also did not comment negatively on players that showed some real improvement like Morne Steyn so I try to be really objective in my assessment and keep very near to how players actually perform.  I also look speifically at the international players and see whether they are really showing something special.

Jantjies I have studied last year as well and that is how I have been able to see the negatives in his game.  I aways try and determine whether he has shown improvement to overcome the negatives and produce good results.   In the two games played thus far - Jantjies had a tendency to repeat all his mistakes of last year and his only real asset (namely kickig at goal) also deserted him completely.

No ... I'm saying he had a better game than last week ... that there was an improvement across the board ...

None of that was mentioned ...

In other words, Mike is not being objective ... as he used to be ... now it's merely a matter of sticking it to Dimple Butt Dave ... as often as he can ... and then bitching about the sledging, name calling, the constant friction on this MB ...

Is that clear enough for you now, bluebok ???

Got it Capone. I agree that his perfromances was better than last week, but he is still nowhere near being good enough to seriously be considered for the Boks. YEs it is a new season, and yes, he had to deal with the death of his father, but eratic performances are not a new thing for Jantjes.

Fair enough Mike, thanks for your opinion. Just a question do you agree Jantjies had a better game than last week? You don't see any improvement positives at all? geez

I always try and be objective.  There really was some improvements in some aspects of his game - but also some negatives in others.   I do not think he at this stage really meet requirements and agree with you - he should not be selected for the game against the Chiefs, really too big a gamble.

If he is I would like to see Pretorius in the mix - but I definitely prefer Taute at full back to Pretorius and Pretorius will have to be on the wing instead of Aplon.   The question remains - would that be a wise move?   Pretorius to my mind is more of an impact player than a starter - and even though Aplon was below par (mainly because the rest of the backline misfired) - I still prefer him in the starting line up.

Right he shouldn't be selected against the chiefs i agree, i believe Grant can mantain a decent form week in and week out. I personally think Taute is ordinary nothing special, i prefer Joe Pietersen at fullback due to fact that his tactical kicking is more efficient than Taute, Joe Pietersen can handle the pressure we need him at 15.

Thanks for the link - that probably was one of the best tries scored in Super 15 last year.

Make no mistake ... I don't regard Jantjies as a test match prospect. One needs consistency.

He doesn't have it.
