When do we learn that Coetzee has been retained....
If they keep Coetzee on I will officially be done with SA rugby.
The SARU office was closed for the period 15 December until Monday last week and will probably decide this coming week what will happen,
The only shining light is that SARU has been known to make decisions at the last moment, due to their disorganisation.
Deon Davids said last week he has not been in communication with Rassie- which rules him out. The performance of the Kings in Pro14 might not have helped either.
The following from News24:-
"It remains unclear whether Allister Coetzee will stay on as Springbok coach in the 2018 season.
The talk behind the scenes is that SA Rugby wants to relieve Coetzee of his duties but legal matters regarding his contract appear to be delaying the decision.
According to Sunday newspaper Rapport, Coetzee met with his employers last Thursday but it appears that the two parties could not come to an amicable agreement.
It remains unclear when an announcement regarding Coetzee’s future will be made.
The Afrikaans weekly further reported that it remained more likely for Coetzee to eave his post as Bok coach and coach the Canon Eagles in Japan.
Reports late last year linked Coetzee to the job in Japan - he had coached the Kobelco Steelers before becoming Springbok coach in 2016.
Coetzee has won only 11 out of 25 Tests in charge of the Boks which gives him a meagre 44% win-record, well below his 65% mandate.
Late last year Coetzee remained adamant that he wanted to remain as Bok coach.
He said they had made massive progress in 2017.
"I'm signed on until 2019. That's what my contract says. The team has really grown. It’s a really healthy team environment," Coetzee.
In 2016, the Boks won only four of 12 Tests (33.3%), while in 2017 they won seven of 13 Tests (54%).
Last year was, however, blighted by record losses to New Zealand (57-0, Albany) and Ireland (38-3, Dublin).
In case of Coetzee losing his job, it is expected that Rassie Erasmus, SA Rugby’s new director of rugby, will take charge of the national team."
It would be seriously problematic for all concerned if Coetzee stays on without having the trust of SARU and the public, He should realize his time is up and go,
Heyneke Meyer took over as Bok coach and with him came all the Bulls he could get into the mix ... including 2nd rated props and their coaching staff.
Coetzee then took over and funny enough he too tended to look toward his home town for his recruits. Players like Carr, Kolisi, Bongi, De Jongh and De Allende the useless to mention but a few.
Rassie seems to be no different. Will Franco Smith (a Cheetah) join him as part of the Bok coaching staff. I wonder how many of the Cheetahs players will be included in his squad? Will Rhule return? I suppose we can expect a fair amount of Stormers too.
Why is it that we never truly get a national coach who's objective enough to scan the entire country and all it's teams for our top 50 players and their top coaching staff?
Let's face it ... Franco Smith is completely over rated. He should be sent packing with Coetzee.
If anyone knows how to put a proper attacking team in place it's Swys De Bruin.
Any bets he won't even be thought of as an option.?
Rassie is not of this standard- but he is much better than most of our local coaches.
I would prefer a foreign coach - but Erasmus will be a vast improvement on Coetzee.
