Lets take two of the well-known cases that some people try to justify and others to denounce:-
The Jake White case
Jake White had a four year contract with the Brumbies and midway through the contract period the vacancy of the Wallaby coach occurred. It is no secret that White wanted the job. He lost his cool and broke his contract after two years on the basis that he wanted to return to SA to be with his family.
Nice one - he accepted the job of Sharks coach in Durban and his family lived in Stellenbosch. Obviously nearer to Cape Town - but was it a real excuse?
However, the venture did not work out and White -
* was effectively fired by the Sharks;* became special advisor to Tonga Rugby - but that lasted three months only; and * became the coach of Montpellier
He apparently tried to use the latter to become the coach of England - which did not endear him to the Montpellier owner and his contract will not be renewed at the end of the existing season.
The Johan Goosen case
There is one issue clear here - something went drastically wrong somewhere insofar as his contract with racing Metro Is concerned. He was at the age of 21 contracted to play for Racing Metro for three years and was during that time attacked by the coach for not attending French classes and not being serious when it came to training.
However, in the 2015=16 Top 14 season Goosen was the player of the series and was offered a 4 year contract until the 2020 season.
Somewhere something went wrong and Goosen has now decided to end his professional rugby career - an obvious move to get out of the Racing Metro Contract. Nobody knows what it is that went wrong yet some opinions on this site was clear.
Mozart came out with a classic - "Speaks to his mental strength or lack thereof". He knows nothing about the circumstances yet his BS and bile was obvious.
One would really have to wait and see the real reason for the decision by Goosen. The reason will come clear within the near future and it will then be easier to assess what really happened.
I do not like the idea of breaching of contracts and sometimes there are real reasons cutting both ways when breaches occur. In the case of White it was clearly due to unbridled ambition on his part - in the case of Goosen we will have to find out what really caused the breach.

One forgotten point that should have be mentioned in another thread and is now.
On this site, people are up to what they call selection based on merit and this guy has been handed a job as a high profile commercial director at 24. His qualifications? College he graduated from? Rank? Professional experience?
Strange that in the on merit selection approach let that one slip through.
Back to the bit provided here: so he had a four year contract, showed a lack of professionalism, failing to perform in training and failing to learn the language.
Then named the best player at the end of the second to last year of contract. Accordingly, he was offered a new contract, that he signed.
Then decided that he could simply walk away from his contractual obligations.
The guy shows a lack of professionalism. If he was displeased with his time in his club, he could have easily avoid to sign a new four year contract. Contract offered something like six months ago. His club might even have aggreed to release him during his last contract year.
This guy looks like a crook. Wont be surprising to learn that he is involved in a shadow deal and wants to get out and keepsthe money.
Guy seized the opportunity of being named best player to negotiate a lucrative contract, pocketed money in the deal and now wants out.

Just as a matter of interest, have you ever had the chance of looking at the contracts these coaches have? When Jake went to Australia and took charge of the Brumbies( let's say he was led to believe) that when The job of coach came up for Oz he would be No1 choice! I am sure you will find that in said contracts there is a clause that if an International job was available that coach would apply for the International Job.The owner of Montpellier would also have been aware that when Jake took on the job of coach, that should an International coaching position come available he would be interested in it.Now, it is well known that Jake let some of Montpelliers well loved players go (how well we're they doing with these players) when he brought in Overseas players the locals did not like it however, how did they do last season? No, I think (if you have ever seen a contract) you will find that ANY coach who has coached at International level will have a clause in the contract. The press will write what makes good reading up to you to believe all you read. I think Eddie Jones would have the same clause in his contract.

You may have a point here about the issue of coaching contracts. However, White did not take up an international job when quitting from the Brumbies - who cannot promise the Aussie job to him.
Insofar as Montpellier is concerned I read somewhere that even though the owner was miffed by White's efforts to get the England Coaching job - there were other problems as well - especially with the squad selection that looks very non-French as ell and also with the playing style of very unattractive rugby not appreciated by the supporters.
Be it as it may - he is a very ambitious prson and the last three real coaching jobs ended somewhat abruptly.

The point I was making was, IMHO Jake was given to understand that if he took a club side in OZ he would be 1St in line for the OZ coaching job when that did not happen I think he was entitled to make a move elsewhere you may disagree but it is a cut throat game.As far as Montpellier is concerned he was asked to take on a club side that was going through a very bad time and the owner wanted results! The owner is not a rugby man and Montpellier is not a rugby town the fans did not like the fact some of their players were let go in place of overseas players but to get the results players had to be brought in. This is the way the game is, most of the sides in Europe have in my mind too many overseas players I think they should only be allowed a certain amount of imports as the national team will suffer in the long run. I am only giving my take on things but can tell you that contracts cover so much (even the players contracts) Professional rugby at it's best results is all that counts.

Totally different scenarios. The Goosen thing is particularly bizarre because he has just resigned.....Looks like he just imploded mentally.

Balls Mozart = where did you get that idiocy from? There was not a single newspaper article mentioning that one. I know you dislike Goosen excessively - one can almost say hating the guy - but that really is the highest level of BS you ever spouted on this site.

No really this is a very bizarre decision that speaks to mental weakness....dropped on his team in the middle of the season. It seems like petulance at best.....weakness more likely. He has just embarrassed himself and hardly helped the cause of other South African rugby players.
But then again I never thought he had any guts. Now he is running home with his tail between his legs....just another instance of my take being better than your's.

D o you know anything about the issue? and just keep on prating about it,
There is no indication that Goosen was dropped from the team in the middle of the season. You are talking a string of BS and exactly opposite to what Racing Metro said in their statement about possibly suing Goosen.
Your take is as per normal absolute crap - for example the useless Fat Fransie is an example.

I saw this last night and decided to wait and see if you would notice where you went wrong with that one. Looks like I, once again, had unrealistic high hopes for you.

Ceradunce
He was NOT dropped stooge. The announcement was on Friday - but he apparamntly gave notice of his intention before Friday.
Thick skull and No Brains - Goosen was the Player of the Year last season in Top 14 and Racing renewed the contract with him this year - and there was no comments negative about the "talented" Goosen in the Club statement.
So he was not dropped thickness - only dim and thoughtless idiots can come up with that we have in Mozart and his side-kick. What a load of crap do we have here!!!!!!!

The OP mentions a contract extension recently signed.
This sudden change in mind is suspicious.
On another thread, the hypothesis of faking retirement in order to play elsewhere was made. It is hard to conceive but excellent men know their own mind, heart and soul better than anyone else so it is possible.
One possibility is that the move is made to play with another french club. That would be disastrous indeed.

When is the exercising of an escape clause breach of contract and when not?
Did this boy use such a clause or is it simply a calculated breach?
Was this his own decision, was he coerced or ill advised by agent(s)?
Are any of us here actually privileged enough to have absolute insight into both his circumstances and actions leading to the decision, or are we merely speculating?
I think, for the time being we should give the player the benefit of the doubt, until all information is in the open. I do suspect that being simply a "commodity" for most of these franchise bosses could be harsh at times. Sort of a paid gladiator to entice the crowds and to gather them in the "arena".

Go to the South African airports when the international flights leave over the weekend. You will see families gathered in small groups as sons and daughters leave for indeterminate periods. These kids don't have the funds to come back every year....for many it's a three year sentence away from their loved ones.
But they go because that's their duty......the path they have chosen, perhaps for their own kids. There is no room for frigging "home sickness". Those of us who chose the "easy" path have all been through that agony.
So I have little sympathy for 'home sickness" as justification for Goosen just reneging on his commitments.

Why don't we all wait to see what the real background to the issue is. I know for a fact that Goosen's wife was at one stage not happy in Paris and she may have had some say in the matter, If this is still factual then it may have been the real reason - I do not think Goosen would sacrifice his marriage to remain in Paris.

I have finally figured out what Tokkie's latest major malfunction is. When I posted this:
.......
'No really this is a very bizarre decision that speaks to mental weakness....dropped on his team in the middle of the season.'
......
........poor old Tok interpreted the sentence as me saying Goosen had been dropped from them team. Wrong and always belligerent. What we do for laughs without him.

Bobbing and weaving, ducking and diving, bobbing and weaving, ducking and diving.....
This is the key phrase, Mamparra:
"....dropped on his team in the middle of the season."
I saw that on Sunday night and, for some reason, I just knew that you would make a hash of it. Sure as hell. You put your fat webbed foot right in it and you still haven't thought of picking it up and check what it is you stepped in. FFS, you haven't even noticed you stepped into something, by the look of things.
Hint........ Check on the difference in the meaning of the words "ON" and "BY". Got it? Or would that take another 24+ hours to sink in?

No real story will surface. Only a PC story to cover up for the whole deal.
Too much non sense already to avoid PC at the moment.
Guy is claiming homesickness after living for three years in a country and extending for a new four year his contract.
Chances is that the new deal involved underhanded package. Guy knew that the boss would prefer to keep it silent rather than exposing so a breach in contract meant free money. Boss could not get his money without speaking of the hidden side of the deal.
As he is also rumoured to want to move to other clubs for better money, it was a good opportunity.
He wants to pocket the money off the shadow deal and get a better pay elsewhere.
Better to prepare for a PC story to come up.
