The potential pace problem of JP Pietersen

Did not really materialize

The Midfoeld (Center) Problem

Lets have a look at the stats:-

de Villiers0/002/0/2200016/30/000/0

Serfontein1/050/2/46610016/20/000/0

De Villiers had  seriously poor game and his defense was in tatters.   The intercept try of Serfotnein showed some ball sense and timing and was very good.   There was a serious deficienciency in carrying the ball by De Villiers and there was a lack of decisive center play - some thought is needed in that case

The Matfield (Lock) Situation

Lets face facts -  Matfield remains a aserrious liability in the team - he was not only yellow-carded,  He was uselew in Tight 5 play.   He remains physically deficient and remains a problem in the team.   He made sure h e did not call for line out balls to come to him and in the end called only four line out balls to come to him.

Matfield0/000/4/13000112/24/011/0

No Ball carries - zilch - his tackles remains a weak effort at best and that is the whole Matield stoy - a serious liability in teh team - a reepet of last weeks efforts.

Bakkies Botha came on and was another liability added to he chronic lock problems we are faced with.

Did Burger run out of Gas?

Unlike last week - when Burger was poor when coming from theee bnch - he was very good today

Jannie du Plessis

JN du Plessis0/000/1/10000011/20/020/0

The scrumming horror continues.    In some scrums he was solid in others poor - giving away two penalties.

So I was right about three issues and wrong about two.   That was what made the win so special - the Springboks won despite three serious handicaps.   Congratulations to them for that one.

UI am not the biggest fan of Jean de Villiers but I watched Will Greenwood's ana.lysis at halftime. He actually pointed Jean's defensive role and specifically Serfontein's try. It would have been great to have the footage available but in short it boils down to the fact that his positioning made it possible for Serfontein to go for the intercept without the concern of opening up s gap, should he miss. He knew Jean was there as back up. That was just one of the examples that he used to discuss De Villiers' defensive play.

The stats that say Matfield made no carries is wrong. He had at least one run near the opposition 22 where he carried strongly.

Ceradyne: I saw the ana-lysis & he presented a different story about de Villiers for sure. In my mind there is no way de Villiers always bolted out of the line if it was not part of the plan. So it was nice to finally hear an explanation.

JW, I always enjoy Will's ana.lysis. He is always spot-on. His previews of games is also something to look forward to.

Jean had a good game. Say what you want.
Why only matfield's stats? Use both locks.

Funny when matfield takes all the lineout ball Mike will be the first to say, "yes but matfield is calling the lineouts". When he doesn't take the most lineout ball it is because he was to scared..HAHA mike mike mike.If matfield had a poor game then surely Eben was also poor? No mention of that?
I am not a big fan of jannie. But seeing that coach will be taking him to the WC next year we might as well get used to him being in the starting 15. Last week most tackles of all the forwards, today not to bad. Enough said.
Burger was made MOTM. I do not agree. He had an average game. Coetzee played better. None of the boks stood out today. It was not good, it was not bad.

I see the Jean De Villiers and  Victor Matfield defenders arr out in full force.
First of all they discovered a ball carry by Matfild - which definitely was a discovery not a fact.  Whether they like it or not Matfield was poor - he is physically not up to standard.   Proofof that was that the Springboks (Burger) scored a pushover try with Matfield in the bin.   Whether he was there or not there made not a difference.  In any event, he gpot himself carded and that in itself normally is a matchloser.   That player remains a serious handicap inthe Springbok team.
As to De Villiers - sure Serfontein went for the intecept knowing that De Villiers - with his porous defense is going to be there if Serfontein's intecept effport did not work out.   That did not explain away the fact that De Villiers's defense on the day was poor.   He missed more than 30% of all attempted tackles.
Lets face facts - the three worst players for the Springboks today was De Villiers, Matfield and Jannie.

Jean may have missed a few tackles, but he made some cracking ones as well. Jannie's miss that led to an England try was the most glaring one as it was not a particularly difficult tackle to make. He is a massive liability in that respect.

S orry - I missed out on Pietersen - but he was largely invisible in the game.   His speed deficiencyy was noticeable when Farrell just ran away from him.  His tackle stats were poor - very poor - making 2 tackles and missing 3.   He also deserve zero rating on that performance.

Let's face it Mike. You see what you want to see. We scored a try without marfield. Your logic is with or without him we scored.Using that same logic matfield must be the best defender. Seeing as we conceded 2 tries with him in the bin..
Mike, are you trying to tell me that beast, strauss, jp, lambie and willie had better games than matfield, jannie and jean? You are so funny.
I will give the whole team between 5 and 6 out of ten.Except for coetzee, reinach and serfontein. They get 7.

...Bean Brain take note of how many tries the English score when Matfield was binned...not sure whether that was a leadership problem or it was just a coincidence... but the Boks were put on the ropes and the poms were allowed back into the game in Matfield's absence...

...watching the Aussies getting their butts kicked by the frogs  at the moment...sucks to be an Aussie of late..

Brycy its mandatory for the Boks to get a yellow. Refs always try to even up the odds I guess. In this case probably a comnplete coincidence.brycy read  thgis comment and wonder. The abs are now battling against second tier nationsThe Scots have never beaten New Zealand, but were scenting history and within just a point of the world champions on the scoreboard until Thrush crossed the whitewash and Colin Slade converted to leave the visitors with a flattering eight point cushion of victory

The kbbs will have to ralsie that the Boks and the Poms can field much better teams whilst against England the wee abs were at full strenght. Panic will probvably be setting in as Hansen must realise both the Boks and England at full strength are better teams.
Our three point win was a good result. Meyer must realise that pap victor and the over the hill Bakkies etc must go. We can fix things if Meyer makes the right moves but can Hansen?

When you watch the game watch out for one driving maul of the Spriingboks where Matfield - supposed to guide the maul was lifted up and his feet barely touched the ground.   Shows why a 107 kg player should not be in the lock position.
Matfield's yellow ca rd was fully justified.   He tried, unsuccessfully at that,  to bring down an English driving maul about 6 mters out.
His groupies are singing his praises - but the guy is a serious liability in the Springbok team.

ou maaaikie Burger has been outstanding again and again when coming on. Is he still the premier flanker in the world? Time will tell.
I think this loose trio is very good. Way better than the wee abs. Only question is whether Louw better than Coetzee. Could be given his strength over the ball. Marcell though works very hard.
Compare him to pap mcaaaw. I do hope the kbbs realise this and tone down their delusional comments re wee mcaaaw.

...Bean Brain , as long as Cruden is starting we will be fine no worries mate...can't go wrong with the Mighty Chiefs as you know.. they're a class act second to none and THE team to beat in 2015...

...and  btw congrats on the win ...glad to see yr favourite son was able to bring it home for you .i.e Steve Walsh...no surprises there as he has a long history of shafting the poms.- a very dodgy character which is why we kicked the drunkard out of NZ in the first place..

...but re Matfield, yr team crump led when he was binned and went backwards at a great rate of knots conceding two tries - was a bit like watching headless chooks running around...best you retain him to steady the ship as you have no other locks whatsoever of note to replace him with have you?...age doesn't matter unless yr wine or cheese..
