It’s seems like yesterday that the likes of Willie, de Allende, Lambie, Goosen, Faf, Reinach, Kitshoff, Nyakane, Malherbe, Koch, Marcel vd Merwe, Mbonambi, Aker, Etzebeth, Lood, PSDT, Paul Willemse, Ruan Botha, Jaco Kriel, Kolisi, Carr, Marcel Coetzee, Elstadt, Mostert and Arno Botha were all in their early 20’s Now they are all in their late 20’s, hell Eben turned 28 the other day This class of players are heading the wrong side of their 20’s and the quality youngsters coming through are a little thin on the ground as so many seem to be leaving our shores. Who is left that are 25 or younger (our future): Fullbacks: Gelant / Fassi / Green Wings: Tambwe / Sergel Petersen / Nkosi / Rabs Maxwane / Duhan vd Merwe / Zas / Dyantyi Centres: Jessie Kriel / Esterhuizen/ Rohan Janse v Rensburg / Marius Louw / EW Viljoen / Similane / Nico Lee Flyhalves: Pollard / Bosch / Jaco vd Walt / du Plessis/ Stander / Willemse Scrumhalves: Papier / v /Zyl / Jantjies/ Hall Props: Wilco Louw/ Pierre Schoeman/ Sadie / Thomas du Toit / Ox Nche / Jannes Jonker / Frans v Wyk Hookers: Marx / Dweba / v Vuuren Locks: Jason Jenkins / RG Snyman/ JD Schickerling/ v Heerden / Moerat / Koeklenberg / Walt Steenkamp/ Eli Snyman / vd Mescht / Herbst Loosies: Ackerman/ Dan du Preez/ JL du Preez/ Wiese / Jaco Coetzee / Cyle Brink / Dayimani / Liebenberg / Tyler Paul/ Jacques Vermeulen / Kobus v Dyk / Augustus / Tshituka

Under 27

Andre Esterhuizen (25)
Lukhanyo Am (25)
RG Snyman (24)
Herschel Jantjies (23)
Cheslin Kolbe (26)
S'bu Nkosi (23)
Warrick Gelant (24)
Malcolm Marx (25)
Handre Pollard (25)
Jesse Kriel (25)
Thomas du Toit (24)
Wilco Louw (24)
Kwagga Smith (26)
Curwin Bosch (22)
Dan du Preez (24)
Jean-Luc du Preez (24)

Older (27+)

Makazole Mapimpi (28)
Faf de Klerk (28)
Louis Schreuder (29)
Franco Mostert (28)
Steven Kitshoff (27)
Eben Etzebeth (27)
Frans Malherbe (28)
Bongi Mbonambi (28)
Elton Jantjies (28)
Akker van der Merwe (28)

These are just from previously capped players. There is a good mix of youth and prime players heading into their veteran years. There will be new faces in the coming years to flesh that out further. The danger is to resist going to young. That is unsustainable; a recipe for failure. Without the experienced core Rasse inherited from three coaches, he'd never smell a final, not even through this "easy" route.

More shocking is the fact that besides the age factor is the interference from the ANC comrades with respect to color quotas.

Surely after all this time with open sport at all levels and many players of color playing at SR , Currie Cup and test levels it is time to drop those policies and select the best.

I do not think any forum member would object to a team with no white players selected if the team was selected on merit.

Oh shucks I forgot about Rooinek.

But besides him.
