 Many of the tries that all 5 of our SuperXV teams score are from the rolling Maul, off a lineout in opposition 10 metre area.

NewZealand cant do rolling mauls, and Australian teams are not very good at them.

It is a massive advantage for our teams. However If the other teams can get better at countering them, or even do them as well it be major problems for SA teams.

It is amazing when watching NewZealand teams when in form.

They just move the ball from side to side of the field until eventually an opening arises, or a mismatch happens like a wing against a prop etc.

Space will eventually open up, or at least a one of one situation where it is possibale to break the line.

Apart from the Cheetas this year the SA teams seemed to have taken a step further back in backline play.

No supporting players running at angles to give the carrier options.

Our backline players aside from the scrumhalf do not seem to have advanced skills in passing.

Some of them have very basic passing skills only.

Either SA teams will fix the backline one dimensional play and become the best, or NewZealand/OZ teams will become better at Rolling mauls.

We are either going to go forward or backward at somepoint.

@sharkbok,

TBH im shocked that NZ teams havent taken greatetr measures to counter this weapon or at least practise some rolling maul set pieces.
its not that NZ cant do it, i rememeber a beauty rolling maultry from the chiefs early on in the opening rounds, its just that NZ seem more keen to spread it out wide ASAP.
i think this is bullshit though, ive suggested we hire some saffa forward coaches to help us develop this part of our game, cos at the meomnt its unacceptable.

theres also a problem with refrees, cos according to prastrana, theres no such thing as coming from the side in a rollin maul, lolz, but then others a very strickt, kind of like the 50/50 calls that scrums always face.

something to look t though, an area i want the NZ teams to improve in big time.

 @Sasuke, we can arrange for a Rolling Maul consultant from SA to go to New Zealand if you ship back a specialist backline coach who can improve the passing game of backlne players.
