Jake White says Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus should pick a predominantly black Bok team to face Wales in Washington DC.

The Boks will open their 2018 season with a Test in the US capital city on June 2, before returning to South Africa to face England in a three-Test series the following weekend.

The first Test against England is scheduled for June 9 at Ellis Park in Johannesburg, with Tests in Bloemfontein (Free State Stadium, June 16) and Cape Town (Newlands, June 23) to follow.

Due to the short turnaround, White believes Erasmus should select two different teams for the Wales clash and the first match against England.

White, who coached the Springboks to Rugby World Cup glory in 2007, believes the Welsh Test could be used to help meet the team's transformation targets.

Via a column for the All Out Rugby website, White picked a Springbok starting XV made up predominantly of players of colour for the Washington showdown.

"If I was the Bok coach, I’d look to pick a team against Wales that is made up of local players with a special emphasis on those that count towards the transformation targets," White wrote.

"Siya Kolisi would potentially captain a side that featured Tendai Mtawarira, Chiliboy Ralepelle, Trevor Nyakane, Marvin Orie, Lood de Jager, Thembelani Bholi, Nizaam Carr, Embrose Papier, Damian Willemse, Raymond Rhule, Damian de Allende, Lionel Mapoe, Ruan Combrinck and Warrick Gelant."

White added: "This team would serve the dual purpose of banking transformation credits to create selection breathing room for the England series, and would also give all of these players a chance to put their hand up on the international stage. Some people might see this as a throwaway selection but I would pick this team to win based on the fact that these players are good enough to battle the best of Australia and New Zealand almost every week during Super Rugby."

White also picked a team he felt should start against England at Ellis Park.

Chippo thinks: Government needs to decide... do we want to be the best rugby nation in the world or do we want to be politically correct? Right now, we simply cant have both. If the best team in the country consisted of 15 people darker than Abubakar Shekau , then I'd have no problem picking them. But right now, that just is not the case!

This idiot should keep out of any debate about rugby in SA.   He obviously wants Rassie to fail and he thinks he would then be in line for being the Springbok coach,   The man is ambituous without any knowledge about backline play and he has had his share - why try and sabotage another coach?

More nonsense. One of the few times I have to disagree with White. Anything that perpetuates non merit selection is counter productive and is also politically incorrect in any decent society.

The All Black Springboks.....
Unfortunately, most of the rest of the world would not entertain a team farcically selected by race instead of merit. Wales could potentially turn down the match- on the basis that it is not a test match, instead, it is a knitting class.
Black talent is the best it has ever been in SA- and won't be long before many walk into the team on merit alone. It disappoints me to see that South Africa is not about merit even thoughapartheid has been gone for over 30 years - and no longer an excuse. Will it be the same in one thousand years? If so, then the same type of laws should be applied in Europe to Africans - and not select on merit etc. (Sports, Jobs and everything else).
The thing is that people here would not do that- even if it is practised like this in Africa.Even Jeremy Guscott on Skype Sports says that South Africa should not use quota's- and he is a  player of colour- and does not support selecting on the basis of race. It would devalue his "personal" achievements as a player
The world is primarily a capitalist society that requires results, not quotas or communist transformation strategic objectives. There is no reward to freedom fighters, who have outlived their own usefulness- only to become the very oppressors they helped dispose of.
I would not support this team- nor would I watch the game.

Mozter, I disagree with you, not in principal, but in reality. The reality is, transformation is being forced upon these guys. White is simply trying to make the best of the situation. Give the political idiots what they want, and then be free to select the best team possible for the Poms.

The pressure just seems to be mounting Bloo.....can it be fairly resolved without resistance? SA Rugby should adopt the Mantra of world soccer .....'no racism in rugby'. That would amount to merit selection and developmental funds for under priveledged rugby communities.....and rugby fans should be willing to give up games and if need be seasons to make this point. I believe we would get support from our playing partners.

Mozart

You do not recognize the style White used in the past to get to higher levels of coaching?     Undermine the existing coach  like he did when he was with the Brumbies in the hope he is o be appointed and when he did not get the Aussie job - he broke his contract with the Brumbies.

Got as a result being fired by both the Sharks and Montpellier = deservedly so.   Thus us typically what he wants to happen top Rassie = stir up BS to put Rassie under pressure snd if he fails hope that he will replace him.

This is not about rugby - it is about the seff-centered  White.

Agreed Moz. This will only go away if the fans force it.

1. Stop going to Stadiums.

2. Stop DSTV prescriptions

3. Stop buying the merchandise.

4. Peaceful protests at matches.

5. Starting and funding a pressure group to organise events and raise money to pay for 6.

6. Make cases of discrimination at the UN and the different international sports governing bodies.  Use the best consultants and lawyers on the market.

PS. 7. Get black players involved to voice their opposition to quotas.

Very important point.

8. Get a proper plan to implement a way to better expose the black community to rugby and for them to start supporting the game...from grassroots to the top. Tell the politicians to FTHO!!!

So much posturing.

The article states a 50 per cent quota.

It will take a strong effort of denial to see this happening on the field.

That is one player  out of two. Wont be necessary to count: a glance at the team will be enough to check the non existence of a quota policy.

SA make no effort to dress that stuff. It is take or leave. Perpetual insult on basic intelligence.

Maybe they will reach the 100 per cent quota tale one day to cover for SA rugby shortcomings. It just takes more effort in denial.

If so, then the same type of laws should be applied in Europe to black people- and not select on merit etc. (Sports, Jobs and everything else).

On what ground. European countries did not make rugby teams a political tool, contrary to SA.

Beside, and that is the most important point: european countries have managed to produce decent enough non white players despite working from a much lower pool.

There is no issue on that department in European countries.

European rugby team players also speak a european language. Most of SA team players do not even speak the language of the majority.

SA delusion party: they want people to swallow there is a quota policy in action (one player out of two, nothing less, it takes no counting) and they keep dismissing that NH managed what SA rugby did not manage: training decent non white players.

There must be a feeling of loneliness to feel the urge of dragging people in your own shit.

What belongs to SA belongs to SA.

This can be understood. It is better to make sure they are on board, they are required to denounce something that does not exist.

Kind of a religion, except that religion requests people to believe in things they do not see.

The quota policy tale can be checked anytime and as the tale keeps advancing, it no longer requires counting.

It is understood that quota people can not count. But when the tale reachs the point counting is no longer required, ensuring people they believe is mandatory.

Moz, the closest we came when Charl Langeveldt absconded from the Protea touring squad when Andre Nell was omitted.  Langes thought that he was not yet match fit and that Nel was the obvious better choice. I am sure that their are many more like him. Every world class athlete wants to play with and against the best on merit. Quotas are insulting and racist towards POC's. Stupidest thing I ever heard of.

When a team or squad of players is selected along racial lines it is a racially selected side....period.

Cut it anyway you want that team is not based on merit selection...period.

Anyone who supports or anyone who has become de-sensitized to it's culpability loses all credibility.

Racial selection in South Africa is in violation of the ANC Constitution and so becomes and act of hypocrisy.

Anyone who accepts and rubber stamps racially selected sides is bereft of a moral compass.

Exactly the same principle applies in the workplace or as matter of fact in life.

Those that have suggested protest with regards to rugby support, or lack there of. I agree with that sentiment, but there is one major problem. It is not going to happen. How many of posters here actually stopped watching rugby while the Allistair Coetzee debacle was ongoing? Farkall!! That's how many. The rugby public at large are a bunch of lemmings. But here is the kicker, lets say we rugby lovers did manage to show a little gumption and kill SARU by cutting off all support. Such a collapse would likely kill off what little interest there is left in rugby, and you know who would be smiling...the racist politicians. This quota rubbish is not about including players of colour, its about sticking it to the white man! Because, despite the increasing numbers of players of colour slowly filtering onto the rugby stage, rugby is still viewed as a white sport.
In other words, I don't have a solution, but there are some stark realities that we, the rugby loving public, need to face.

I agree with Mike.

White is up to no good. He's playing mind games. He had issues with selecting black players in his day. Suddenly he's all for it? I don't think so.

His agenda? One of two things as far as I can tell.

1. He hopes the black Goats team will be totally humiliated ... which will be followed by the mandatory "I told you so" ... or ...

2. He's trying to force Rassie into race based selections. Rassie could find himself under pressure from SARU if he doesn't comply ... and if he does ... the ever hopeful fan may turn against him. It's a lose lose situation.

Rassie better think this through properly. The only way to go is to select on merit. If he's fired because of it then so be it ... at least he'll walk away with his integrity and reputation intact.

Jake White hasn't given up his dream of coaching the Goats again it seems. What a snake.

I am surprised we have so many folk feeling the need to go into such detail about selecting teams on merit. I think we are all aware of the implications that race based selections brings. It really is not that complicated.

Some of us decided to take it a little further by bringing Apartheid into it.

WOW!! Talk about having unresolved issues.

Just looking at Jakes "Merit" Quota team, building for the "feature"

Siya Kolisi

Tendai Mtawarira, 32, 4th Choice at best

Chiliboy Ralepelle, 31, Entitled, Steroid junky, that never proven his worth

Trevor Nyakane, Not first choice in Super rugby

Marvin Orie, Bulls Discard

Lood de Jager,

Thembelani Bholi, Who?

Nizaam Carr, Loose ball in contact and slips tackles

Embrose Papier, Potential, but not first choice at Bulls

Damian Willemse, Long way to go, to soon

Raymond Rhule,Are you joking, worst tackle stats in SP and International ruch

Damian de Allende, Are you for real? Esterhuizen has done a better job

Lionel Mapoe, Single reason the Lions lost to the Crusaders this, year. Pretended to have a sore arm only to play the full game, at that point didn't even bother to tackle which allow the crusaders to score

Ruan Combrinck, been missing in action

Warrick Gelant, Definitely worth his place.

So the Beast is 4th choice and Gelant is 'definitely worth his place'. The Beast has never had a bad test, Gelant still has to prove he can take the pressure in tests vs playing offence against a team that was checked out. For the rest I pretty much agree.

Kitshoff is having a pretty ordinary Super tournament thus far for me....Schoeman has probably been the best LH scrummager. These guys are all test class in my view, but I would still pick the Beast for his unmatched mobility. With automatic prop subs available these days, older guys can give 50 flat out minutes.

Mozart

A person must always read posts with utter amazement - because you get things so utterly wrong,

First of all you are now running down Kitshoff who has consistently done more work in games than Beast or Schoeman  did.

Beast has shown some improvement in performances this year after two years of serious decline .   Maybe he is feeling the heat and is putting in more effort this year so as to rtin his place in the Springbok team.

And like magic....the stalker appears. Beast 53 tackles made/4 missed.....93% success Kitshoff 43 tackles/7 missed.....86% success Beast 211 metres in 44runs.....4.8 metres per run Kitshoff.....279 metres in 64runs....4.4 metres per run. Stats for the tournament to date. So how am I wrong ....huh?

I am afraid that selective stats in particular and stats in general do not give anywhere near a ful;; picture of achievements of players.  What I said about Beast is that for two years he was poor and his year he improved drastically.
