Sharks Director of Rugby Jake White says that even though he felt his team did not play as well as they could have, he was pleased with the bonus-point victory over the Bulls in Durban on Saturday.

The match was White's first in charge of a South African Super Rugby team and his Sharks outscored the Bulls by four tries to one in the 31-16 Kings Park victory.

"I can't remember when last a big derby against the Bulls got you five points and I don't remember when last the Bulls got beaten by four tries," White said.

"So you've got to be pleased with that. The nice thing about it all is that it's the first week out, we haven't played as well as we could and yet we still got a bonus point."

Patrick Lambie scored a late try after the final hooter had sounded to secure the additional log point and complete a personal match haul of 16 points, adding to earlier scores from Paul Jordaan, Cobus Reinach and Odwa Ndungane.

The visitors lacked their regular accuracy with the boot and were made to pay for errors, while White's side fully lived up to their tag as one of the pre-tournament favourites.

But the former Springbok coach was not entirely happy.

"We probably gave away too many penalties and free-kicks when we had ascendancy at scrum time.

"But we back our scrum and those are silly penalties. But I don't want to sound negative. If those are things we can get right, then we can only get better."

White lauded the contribution of his new captain Bismarck du Plessis.

"Bissie is still a young captain and would have taken a lot out of that performance. I thought he handled his composure well and got the players behind him. "

"That fact that in that last play of the game he took it upon himself to call the play, he knew exactly what he wanted to do and we ended up scoring the last try.

"So he'll get a lot of confidence out of the fact that the players really looked up to him and when it really counted, he called the right play."

Sharkbok: yes I am sure Kiwis will take note & store this note in the library along with all the other notes we have from prior seasons when Boks fans & coaches have offered up such speculation.

Yes just-Win, if Jake White could allmost beat the Chiefs in the SuperXV final with that rag tag outfit the Brumbies, one can only wonder what he can do with the Sharks.

It6 was not boring on Saturday and will not be in future.   However, the first test will be on Saturday when the Sharks play the Hurricanes - and my money is definitely not on the Hurricanes.

 I'm busy writing up my summary of the game, so I don't want to say too much; the Sharks showed glimpses of something very special. I though the defence was magnificent in the face some powerful drives by the Bulls, but it was what they did with their possession that impressed the most. Lambie did his job well, Frans was used to good effect, Reinach and Jordaan looked very comfortable. The whole back division looks balanced and well run. I can't recall how long it's been since I have seen the Sharks like this. And take a bow Mvovo! No longer the lazy loafer it would seem. When he came into the line it was with purpose, he contested and won turnovers, was good in the air and defended very well. The pick of the forwards were Coetzee and Bismarck. The pack didn't fire as I'd hoped, but we all know what they have there. Definitely one of the better teams out there and Jake will have them there or thereabouts in contention for the title.

 Watch what Jake White will do come finals time - all that early bravado will disappear and he will disappear into his shell and do what is safe in his mind. We know Jake White. No wonder Rathbone complained during the final - he was probably appalled at the cowardly approach come win or lose. He will win or lose safetly - what manner of living is that? Give me the Cheetahs any day.

Rathbone is an idiot. The Brumbies played the final exactly as they should and but for two errors would have won it! You simply do not understand Jake or anything South African. It's not a matter of being safe, it's a matter of not being stupid.

Whether Rathbone is an idiot? Non issue.Whether but for 2 errors the Brumbies would have won it? Non issue as Final Score on the Scoreboard says otherwise.Whether I understand Jake? Non issue and don't care.Whether I understand anything South African? Non issue and too general an accusation.Whether it's not a matter of being safe, it's a matter of not being stupid? I fail to see the difference. 
The Chiefs running that ball and beating the Brumbies is not an isolated event. That reflects correctly the playing ethos of NZ.
Jake in 2012 did a similar thing as he did in the 2007 RWC - he retreated into his shell and waited for results to fall his way in the final games of the S15 and unfortunately his Brumbies met the Auckland Blues who had nothing to lose but played a running game that blew his Team right out of the competition in 2012 when he thought he had it in the bag. His quivering thin lips at the end of the match was a delight to watch.
My point - run the ball, have a go, play like a man.

between the sharks zero titles and jake whites zero titles, all i can say is zzzzzzzzzzzz.

i remember all too well when the bulls last got beaten by four trys. in this case it was more then 4 though.
it was against the crusaders when they scored 6 trys to one in a 41-19 demolishing.

i cant help noticing the same ol look at me were going to win it this time chants from the locals.
they list their reasons why and give false warnings, but ultimately like every single other, those same locals will be blaming the referee and playing the famous whatif/of only game when the NZ rugby empire once again leaves them drowning in their wake,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, again,
