Watched a highlights clip of Wellington game.

Players stats for the two 8s was...

Read

Height 193 Weight 110kg

Whitley

Height 193 Weight 108kg

Wonder how Read is considered one of if not the best 8 playing right now when he, just like Whitely is obviously not big/physical enough for test rugby.

Similarly Kilosi and Cane are practically identical in size and weight...with Kolisu being a faster sprinter.

Surely NZ have an 8 somewhere that IS big enough for test rugby.

My advice? Drop Read now. The 100 test experiment has obviously failed. He's just not big enough.

E agerly awaiting the following sentence...

"The prematch player stats are normally out by at least 20%. Reid walks around at 130kgs and Whitely at about 75kgs. Don't believe what you see on tv."

I've been watching Read and Cane closely this season. They are excellent defenders and carriers. Read is an incredible player. Whiteley has also been very good. Does alot of dirty work. Kolisi and Cane could barely be farther removed from one another.

plum

I beg to add to your comments  about Read and Whiteley - as well as on Cane and Kolisi.

I think that Read is in fact moving into what I call the declining stages of his career.   He was the World Rugby Player of the Year at one stage - but over the last three years his career was negatively affected by injury and for instance this year he played no Super Rugby.   Advancing age is also beginning to take its tole.  I think that although Hansen still regards him a good enough player insofar as NZ is concerned, I do not think he is the yardstick to measure performance against anymore.

My problem with Kolisi is that he is incapable of one of the basic functions of a openside flank.   That is the issue of breakdown ball protection and recovery - inclusive of possession turnovers.   He tries hard and in some cases he did try to get turnovers, but I mostly result in penalties.

In reality I accept Kolisi as a certain selection - but still see deficiencies in his performance - which is largely a bsent in the case of Cane.

"tiny" would be a slight exaggeration Plum.

Most loosies are around the 110kg mark.

Schalk weighs 114

Sam Cane weighs 103

Michael Hooper weighs 101

Pockock weighs 115

So 110 really isnt tiny.

I know some of the okes like Mako Vunipola weigh like 120kg's but they are built like animals.

I must be honest though, just judging from what i see in the tele... read looks much bigger than 110kgs.

Chippo, I think Plum knows that neither Read or Whiteley are tiny. He's just making the point that if Whiteley is regarded as too small for test rugby, why not Read, given that they are very similar in size. Just a bit of sarcasm from him. Not to be taken literally.
Must say, sarcasm doesn't work too well on this forum lately. Just the other day there were two feeble-minded dolts who took some very obvious sarcasm literally and ended up with a combination of "omlett" and "omellette" all over their red faces.

No probs Chippo. I can tell you that you handled the news that you'd taken something sarcastic too literally a heck of lot better than Omlett and Omellette did.

FFS you useless idiot of mornic tosser can you not read even simple english because you are a...

hahahahahah

Just kidding man!!!

Had you there for a second huh?

If anyone on this site is guilty of misreading stuff i'm sure that title belongs squarely to me

No probs dude.

Back to the point.

The only complaint anyone has about Whitely is his size. No other down side to him has been mentioned here, that i can remember anyway. It's always that he's not physical enough. I've always believed that to be nonesnse.

So is he or is he not too small?

Any takers?

As for Kolisi

I'm not propping him up or knocking him down.

Jsut pointing out that he is also said to be too small but is the same size as the AB's first pick in that position...and a bit faster of the mark. Not that Cane's a slouch. That's all.

Admitedly, Kolisi is growing on me. Maybe more as a personality than a player but either way, i don't hate the guy.

Saying that, he has also had a few nice moments on the field this year. Just wish he'd made that pas s in the recent AB game.

If Whitely weighs 108kg then Read must weigh 115kg. Just by looking at the two players one can see that there is no way Read only weighs 2kg more than Whitely. Read is the perfect size for a test 8, Whitely is too small. These stats are suspect and out of date at the best of times. Most stats have Etzebeth at 117kg which is a joke - he weighed that as a Baby Bok - the guy weighs over 130kg

Chippo.....you may think this is sarcastic, but it's just informative....Mako is a prop, you're thinking of Vinnie. Apparently Urinal doesn't know this either, because in 'correcting' your posting, he missed the biggest mistake. Stick with moz for the real scoop.

Plum I'm with Dave on the weights, Whiteley is 10 to 15 lbs lighter than Read. As for Kolisi he is always going to be a compromise if he can't learn how to attack the ball on the deck.

Not saying you guys are wrong.

Just odd that everyone keeps estimating Read's weight too low and Whitely's too high.

From wiki to whoever is doing the player stats before games. haha Maybe Sky/DSTV get their stats from Wikipedia too.

Would nt suprise me if they did.

Whiteley looks big enough but he isn't an penetrating runner or a repelling defender. Smart player and has value but a fit Vermeulen trumps him every day.

Mikey ,Mikey ,Mikey .

In your world any AB over the age of 23 is too old and in decline ,like DC ,Nonu and Maccaw who outplayed all their opponents both during and before the RWC 2015.

Nonu is still world class and Maccaw and DC would still be on any teams wishlist.

Plum

From all my time of watch NZ Rugby at a distance - I don't think they much care about what South Africans think - I don't think they really have much respect for them at all.

They may well do for 80 Minutes + on the field but off the field and South African Comment about anything concerning NZ Rugby isn't really worth shit.

South Africans may think they do - but they don't know anything about NZ or Kiwi Rugby / Even less about the AB's.

Truth be known - I don't really think New Zealanders give a rats arse about South Africa or South Africans - In fact I think in true honesty - They have very little respect for South Africa and laugh at a distance as it disintergrates.

Who said I was white? Look at that for racial profiling. I love to watch them fail.

You can now explain to the rest of the white males on the forum why they are subhumans.

Rugby Linda calls others gay as though it's an insult while at the same time being a guy that is posting about how his boyfriend defends his honour...On a rugby site.

Haha

Unfounded levels of repression and sadness on display for the world to pity.

Poor creature.

Just be fabulous.  Embrace those soft fabrics and bright colours. Dance like you really want to. Meeow until the sun comes up.

Stop hiding that copy of Yentl under your bed.

You'll never be Barbra. But it's in your power to be the most flaming queen in the village.

Good luck.

Haha
