Who in the NZ and SA teams are retiring from test rugby.

The fact is that players regard the WC as the key to a golden retirement future  for themselves and in the process some players do a lot to destroy their cherished reputation.   The list of SA and New Zealand players going to the 2015 WC as their swansong in test rugby is long.  There are indications that a substantial percentage of the to be retired SA players in 2015 seriously damaged their reputation.

However back to 2019 amd the question is which players are in fact leaving international rugby:-

Francois Steyn

Duane Vermeulen

New Zealand

Ryan Crotty

Ben Smith

I am not sure whether there are not other players in the relevant category as well.   I think for instance that it is highly unlikely that Beast will play test rugby much longer - he is already 33 years of age, but as far as I am aware he has made no announcement about his future.

Most of the WC winners yesterday are in the range of 26 and 27 years of age or even younger and is likely to be playing still by 2023.          

Retiting? Is that some type of Moob enhancement?

Guys who should be retired from Test rugby might be another interesting topic for discussion.

What's more pertinent is the sad number of top players heading overseas ........ superugby teams will be a wasteland.

Back to the rugby, the ageless Tendai will likely retire. I hope he will find the motivation to soldier on unto the Lions tour. It will be a very sad day when he leaves the game.

If one look at the squad as a whole the situation is was as follows:   

*    30 years or older      =     6

*    29 years                    =     5

*    28 years                    =     6   -   3 may go through to  2023

*    27 years                    =     5   -   4 may go through to 2023

*    26 years or younger  =    11

I also took into account replacements.   The chances are that if Performances are maintained a core of about 18 players in the squad may be available for the next WC in 2023   

This is vastly different from 2015 when a total of 13 players were over 30 years of age.   

So over the next 4 years the Coach may have to look at about 13 to 15 replacements - not an impossibility at all to find replacements after the dark years between 2014 and 2017 that was really destructive insofar as team building was concerned.     .   .

I think Super rugby will fall apart... IMO

ever since the conferences came in the comp never the same... 

Foxsports meant to renegotiate their tv rights soon and no one in Aust cares for the game at all... additionally all the good aussie players are off to france and uk... leaving the s15 comp (aussies anyway with reserve graders / redundant kiwis at best).. 

oh well - until Aussies create a provincial comp worth watching it is only downhill for the code.

2020 is the last year of the conference system.    There may be a changed system from 2021 as well.  

They must get rid of the orc and start really building up rugby in Australia.   In SA I can foresee an increased number of younger Whites leaving SA and if they go to Australia it would help rugby there,   

Super rugby lost its lustre after 2011. That was the very last super rugby campaign of note. This obsession with converting Union to League must end now. Set a stake through its heart! Vanquish the folly of Dingoworld. Best yet, move north. 

2011 was indeed a very memorable year (Qld victors under Ewen)... and possibly my happiest recent(relatively) rugby memory until the rigged 2011 RWC in kiwiland...

That was until Perth game v ABs this year...

Mike - interesting you say - West Oz full of Saffas (and the force gets axed) and Qld Reds front row stocks have a couple of burly Smit/s twins - who "fled" SA in high school...

There is article today calling for introduction of provincial comp based on Syd  / Bris club rugby teams with some heritage... I have been calling for this for years... The "NRC" is a complete and utter borefest of which no one watches other than family and friends... even they might forget about it too...

I'll talk to the PM & immigration minister perhaps we can expedite young white saffa rugby players... and stop the flow of welfare milking jihadis... lol..

sadly this possibly wont happen.... and current PM is a full Leaguey - treasurer is AFL......
