I'm just looking at the back line players in the squad but noticed that there is only one specialist 13 in Juan de Jong. Who do you think Meyer will pick and who would you pick?
Who is Meyer going to select at 13?
Might be a combo of 12 - Serfontein, 13 De Villiers. Although there was talk of De Allende at 13 before he got injured.
That may influence Meyer as well - but I think that De Allender is the only choice Meyer has at 13 if he passes the medical test today.
There is one thing I am delighted about and that is the absence from De Jongh from the squad. he is a good finisher once somebody else puts him into space - but he also has a terribly poor defense record.
I always had a very high opinion of De Allende and has placed an extensive background report on him on the site, about 18 months ago already. His fuirst appearances in the Stormers team was when ehc ame off the bench for the Stormers in a CC game against the Bulls and scored a very good try. Was then surprised when they moved him to inside center against the Sharks when de Villiers was injured and in that game ran through Francois Steyn as if he was not there.
After the return of De Jongh he was moved to wing - where he was equally useful and he could even play on the wing for the Springboks.
Saffex would have a fit - but from my point of view he is a better center than Serfomtein. He is physically stronger, pacier and have some really good passing and off-loading skills.
I think that Meyer would select him at 13 and depending on the status of the game - he and De Villiers will change position on the field of play.
I think that Meyer knows we are in a dwang with 13's and he would really like to see De Allende filling that position on a permanent basis in future. He is a definite for the 13 position in the Argentina tests and we will then see how he develops further.
From what I have read about De Allende and especially the comments of experts on him - Dixon said that he is so talented it depends entirely on him whether he wants to be a Springbok or not - in other words if he decides to play and play well - the Springbok selectors will have no option but to select him.
I am sure he will do very well and be the Springbok cenmter for the next 8 years - he is only 22 years old.
The young guns (Pollard, De Allende and De Jager) are likely to be fixtures in the team after the RC .

Not true. You definitely didn't watch the June matches or you are deluded, one or the other. Serfontein has in fact proved that he can play superbly at 12 for the boks, he is a strong ball runner with determination. You say he is too slow but in reality JDV is no faster than Serfontein, clearify? I don't regard JDV as a bad player and I wouldn't remove him from the squad as he brings experience around the players but the reasonable option is to play him off the bench at this stage. Serfontein needs to be first choice inside centre so he can develop as a even better international player, if it doesn't happen sooner or latter that potential will be wasted just like what happened to other players in the past.

To answer your question I think Meyer would opt for De Allende at 13 (If fully recovered) There has been speculation that De Allende would've start in all the June tests if he wasn't injured. And I would of course back the centre combo of Serfontein at 12 and De Allende at 13.
You have to love puerile stuff like:
"Dixon said that he is so talented it depends entirely on him whether he wants to be a Springbok or not - in other words if he decides to play and play well - the Springbok selectors will have no option but to select him."
Unfortunately this kind of throw back to 1950s thinking is still rife.
Sure - but Dixon coached the guy and obviously knows more about him than you do. There is nothing wrong in what he said - but it does not fit in with your line of bullshit thinking.
Anyone who thinks that Matfield, Morne and Bakkies are still good enough is not able to think at all or retarded in thinking - so I take your comment as coming from the great rugby illiterate.
When fit Allende is a must have player for the Boks.
Post Jean its looking like Jan and Allende as our centers?
I am not so sure about what Meyer is going to do with De Allende. I still think that the likely candidate for 13 will be De Allende because De Villiers is not as effective at 13 as he is at 12. What I am sure of is that De Billiers and Meyer will talk this one over like it is unbelievable and De Villiers's input will count with Meyer.
Now we just need to find a decent 9
I also think that with De Allende at 13, we might see more of our wingers actually get the ball in space.
Probable backline
9 Pienaar10 Steyn11 Habana12 De Villiers13 De Allende14 Hendriks15 Le Roux
Bench
Hougaard - Scrumhalf and WingLambie - Flyhalf, center and FullbackSerfontein - Center
Going to be hard to pick the bench cover
Last year, at the ripe old age of 32, JDV along with Habana were the fastest in the Stormers camp over 40 metres. here is a little excerpt from a write up on the Bok squad.
"Many observers feel that De Villiers, at 32, is in the twilight of his career and no longer has the turn of pace that has made him such a world-class operator in his prime.
Those observers may be interested to note that De Villiers and Bryan Habana are the fastest players in the Stormers squad over 40 metres.
The Stormers have not done De Villiers any favours with their style of play, using the big centre continuously to run through a proverbial brick wall and test the first line of defence in order to set up the next phase.
The Stormers expect him to be a battering ram and a Vodacom Durban July-winning horse at the same time. It is simply unfair."
Now please guys..Lets get over this Serfontein vs JDV debate..JDV is still a far superior player to Serfontein..
Of course I watched the June internationals and so what?? Am I supposed to be impressed by Serfontein? He did no more than I expected him to do.He was not brilliant..He was not great...He was not even particularly good..What he did was a holding job until Jean comes back hopefully..Any rugby man with half a brain can see that Serfontein is not in the same league as JDV... Everyone just assumes that the man is one year older therefore must be slower..Habana and JDV are still extremely quick and train harder than most...Yes, you will slow up with age but these men are athletes that are early 30's...Not late 40's!! Some of the best (actually most of the best) players in the world are in their 30's!!
Hey Buggered ... I thought I told you to pull your head out your arse ... ??
Huh??
What the hell is it still doing up there ... ??
Now please ... I'm asking nicely ... PULL YOUR HEAD OUT YOUR ARSE!!!
Kapeesh??
Who is a good 12 then - Francois Steyn?
Who is a good 12 then - Francois Steyn?
That says it all - the most useless atta cking and defending center in Super 15 and you rate him!!!!!!!!!! This is side-splitting stuff we have here.
