We have now seen three players at 12 during Super - who are potentially in line for Springbok selection at 12 - in the place of or supplementing De Villiers in that position.
The three players are -
* Damian de Allende;
* Witless Hog Steyn; and
* Jan Serfontein.
From what I have seen tonight is a huge eye-opener. De Allende is miles ahead in Cenbter play of Witless Hog and Jan Serfontein. He has the strength and the speed - as well as the understanding of the game way ahead of anything of thee other two.
Witless Hog and De Allende played against the same opposing centers a week apart and it is interesting what the comparison is between him and De Allende. So lets look at the stats:-
Steyn
* Carried the balls 11 times for a meter gain of 16 meters;
* Made no clean break and beat 3 defenders
* Lost possession of the ball 3 times and gave away 2 penalties
* Attempted 7 tackles missing 2
De Allende
* Carried the balls 10 times for a meter gain of 65 meters;
* Made one clean break beating 4 defenders
* Never lost possession of the ball and gave away no penalties.
* Attempted 12 tackles missing 2
The above info says it all - it is like comparing Cheese and Chalk and it is clear Witless is chalk in this case.
If the idea was that Steyn and De Allende should carry the ball forward and provide go forward ball to their teams - then it is clear that Steyn failed and De Ajjende succeeded in the two games in question.
My dear friend Saffex will definitely disagree - but I think he would do so by juggling words in a desperate effort to prove otherwise.
