My own impression is that the better player is Jantjies for the following reasons:-

*   Jantjies box kicking game is mire effective than Faf's whose kicks are at times to ineffective to be followed up to far ahead for the relevant purpose,

*   Jantjies passing game was better - eg against the AB's Faf made two substandard passes, while in neither of the two games of Jantjies there were any.

*    Three tries to none favour Janjies.

*   As a thinking player Jantjies is more effective - his follow-ups in the game are faultless - all three tries were based on that ability and gathering the strategic kick of Du Toit is a real plus as well.

To my mind Faf will have to be careful - his starting position at scrummie is under serio us threat.

Jantjes has a better break and follows up better - great anticipation as we have seen time and again he pops up at the right place.

In the match against the kiwis he was actually very quiet on attack apart form that try?

ReInach Is the forgotten man. He has blIsterIng pace but has not been gIven a shot yet.

After 2 games, albeit brilliant games, you cannot really compare these two just yet

Faf has not really done that much wrong in his 22 caps that he has already played for SA, but yeah, the pressure is definitely on from Jantjies, which can only be a good thing in my opinion.

I rate Jantjies very very highly..... in fact I see him having a very long career with the springboks, and not because of his two games that he has already played for the Boks, but from reading about where he came from and how he got to where he is now from a very young rugby player.

That one snipe around the fringe of the scrum which led to the try against the Aussies reminded me so much of Joost...… his action, the way he broke, and the way he took that gap...… everything was Joost.

He's a real gem, but I still fully support Faf at the moment

Jantjies is the future, let Him get his experience off the bench and the time will come when He will force his way into the starting g side.

Reinach unfortunately will be injury and rest cover.

Competition between these three is needed to keep up quality.

I think Jantjies was one of the youngsters Rupert paid for to go to Paul Roos for high school education - another one was Willemse.   In the report it was mentioned that a certain gentleman took his info to the school and said he found gold in him and the same day his admission was approved.   Somebody paid for it - the money does not fall from the sky,

In that group previously reported on Rupert paid for was 17 youngsters - I am sure he must have been one of those.   He and Willemse is about the same age.

Incidentally I agree with the comments of the majority on site - to early to choose now - but I think he is going to be a star of the future.

In 2018 there were umpteen moans about scrummies and now we have 3 good ones.  I am hoping the next players jumping from the woodwork will be centers.

Or Fullbacks,

After Iffy Willie there are not many putting their hands up. Coetzee and Gelant are pretty ordinary. Willemse might b e a prospect and that small guy from the lions whose name escapes me and Bosch who is probably the closest we have to emulating Willie as a first receiver.

He made at least two poor lobbed passes against Aus and another wayward one against the ABs. No biggie.

Too dim to spell "too dim" correctly, Mike? Too dim to post something only once?

This kindergarten stuff is easy. Lift your game.

Uh oh....now everything Faf does will be wrong. He is on the Smith, Matfield Amla, Kallas, Vermeulen list and the poor chap doesn't even know it.

I have realized a while now that you two know zero about rugby and  this is typical.   Idiotic contributions on an interesting topic requires response and a few members wrote logical responses and the two idiots write BS.   Grow up and don't show your total ignorance consistently.

So let me see...you writing that Jantjies made no poor passes - totally on topic.

Me responding to a point you raised by saying that I noticed some poor passes from him - not on topic at all.

There was no need to attack me after what I said. Yet you deliberately chose to do that, and now you lament the way the thread is going and it's everyone's fault except yours.

If you lift your own game, ou Mike, you'll notice that everyone around you lifts theirs.

Keep dragging it down into cheap insults, then don't stand there looking surprised when it all goes to shit.

We were talking about the performance of players - not nitpicking and BS like you specialize in.  Still nop comment on the players - rather an attack on what I wrote.   How bloody stupid are you?

To early to make a comparison.
Jantjies scoring 3 tries in 2 tests is excellent. However, he did not do the same for the Stormers (E.g. he did not score at least one try in each match in SuperRugby).
So this might be a random anomaly - When looking at data, thei r should be enough of it to be statistically reliable. Otherwise, it is just speculation.

Faff had some amazing games last year.

No  Mozart

When it cones to rugby both you and Pakie has an IQ of 40 and the viciousness of hyenas. You two do not know enough about rugby to respond on the issue.

Oom Mike, you are overly defensive of your favorite players...and you can be a bit rude when you go on the offence against those who criticize them.

There were no criticism on this issue - just a discussion on the scrummies who do have a positive impact until Pakie and Mozart appears with the normal sniping at me.   Sorry - but this thread had deteriorated due to them,

It is better just to ignore their postings on site when they start with their nonsense

You made a claim, I challenged it. That is not sniping, that is how open and honest debate works.

If you want to have a discussion on your own terms without anyone challenging you, write yourself a letter and mail it to yourself, then go pick it up at the post office and read it out loud while nodding in agreement.

I hope Jantjies can also develope that raking cross field kick that Fourie du Preez had.
du Preez would dart behind his players like a q uarterback and smash it into the far corner of the ground, what we don't need is just another box kicking scrumhalf.

Faf can manage a game, we don't have any evidence of that from Herschel. Faf exerts more pressure than HJ, which backs up the J-Raz gameplan. Last season Faf was, along with Willie, our greatest catalyst for tries. We need these two players and we need them in form, or we are in quite a mess. I would have gone Schreuder, as he fills the void better than any of our other 9s. Herschel had some "x factor" against Australia and was on hand for the try against New Zealand. These off the cuff moments are not going to make us World Champions.

Jantjies has gone from zero to hero within a couple of tests, he'll be under different kinds of pressure from hereon in, different to anything previous.......an expectant nation will be baying for more, and more. He'll be faced with more challenges, the biggest will be to manage his own headspace. It won't be easy.

Faf without doubt - he is far more dangerous with ball in hand. Jantjies is a good prospect but he needs a good few test caps before we can properly compare them
