Who should be in the Springbok squad in the 2019 WC based on performance

I made a total hash of the heading and decide to rather post the topic again for further discussion.   Obviously the upcoming Super Rugby series and the RC tests in 2019 could make a difference - since the squad should be selected on merit and performance  in 2018, but not the false deductions made from performances as described by the members on site based on prejudice.

At this stage  personally I believe the following players should comprise the core team:-

I am thinking on the following lines:-

15  Le Roux, 14 Nkosi, 13  Kriel, 12 Willemse, 11 Dyantyi, 10  Pollard, 9  De Klerk, 8 Du Plessis, 7  Du Toit, 6 Kolisi (not mine but inevitable), 5  De Jager, 4  Etzebeth, 3 Malherbe, 2  Marx, 1 Kitshoff

16  Mbonambi, 17  Mtawarira, 18  Koch, 19  Schicekerling, 20 Kriel, 21  Papier, 22  Visser, 23 Du Plessis.

The latter two are in the sevens set-up at present and I can see real stars in the making.in those two.  Muller du Plessis can cover both the full back and wing positions and Visser both center positions.   Any player who can score three tries against the Fijians beating three  of their defenders (like Du Plessis did) is really something special.   .

 The above would not meet the quota requirements - but a WC squad consists of  32 players - so Erasmus will select most of those from the quota system and will probably include at least Nyakane, Ngcobo, Jantjies, Am, De Allende and a few other quota players to make up the numbers,  Any other suggestions you could come up with?

Well ... it's going to be riddled with quotas and the undeserving ... and as far as I know the squad is to consist of 31 players ...

I am not sure about the size of the squad - but Meyer's squad in 2015 consisted of 31 players.   That squad was the worst WC squad imaginable and consisted largely of reputation players without regard to performance.   So you are right about the size of the squad. 

Bearing in mind the quota system the squad the 2019 squad should consist of players selected on actual performance and NOT of reputation players.   That is why I left out Vermeulen and Louw completely and that is why I included players to be the core of the squad for the 2023 WC.

Interesting comments by you.  No - I actually think of Jacques du Plessis at 8.   He has been playing in that position for Montpellier and did exceptionally well for them.

I agree with most of your selections - but ahs a problem with a few as well.   Unless Wilco Louw does a lot of hard work in Super Rugby in 2019 he is not going to make the grade.   A very strong scrummager - but was disappointing in tests this year,   Not sure about Janse van Rensburg - have not seen or heard about him playing for more than a year,   Last year he played for Sale Sharks in 8 matches and scored 3 tries - it appears he has not played for his club Sale Sharks in the present season starting in September 2018   Any late news about him?
