Based on performance and availability I woul say the following:-

Looseheads

Start      -  Tendai Mtawarire

Bench    -   Sarel van der Merwe (Lions)

Back up  -   Thomas du Toit (Sharks)

Tightheads

Start       -   Jannie du Plessis

Bench      -   Frans Malherbe

Back Up   -   Coenie Oosthuizen/Marcel van der Merwe

The above is based on scrummin prowess - plus performance outside of scrumming.  Jannie du Plessis is not as good a performer outside of scrumming than the other props are and tends to give away penalties.   Oosthuizen are good outside of scrumming - but not solid enough in the scrumming situations.

Locks

Starters   -   Eben Etzebeth

                      Lodeayk de Jager

Bench      -  Paul Willemse/Stephen Lewies

Easy calls

Tightheads - Coenie, Malherbe, Marcel v/d Merwe

Looseheads - Beast, Kitshoff, Nkanyane

Locks - Etzebeth, Lood, Willemse, PSDT, du Plessis, Lewies

Look no further than these guys - end of

PSDT is so good that he should play even thought he is injured. And the only fit specialist number 5 lock is the 6th choice in the list of locks?
Kitshoff and Malherbe are also not exactly running around doing cartwheels.

Sorry - but you are wrong.  Malherbe had Concussion and will be ready for the RC.    Malherbe had a top performance record in teh Super 15 - in carrying balls, tackling and scoring of tries in Super 15 - all teams - before his injury in the Highlanders game. He was always better than Du Plessis in all three aspects of the gam and was also ahead of Marcel van der Merwe and Oosthuizen..   What are you talking about here?
Saffex is also dreaming - Kitshoff and Du Toit is out for the year and Du Plessis will not be available for the RC as well.
Nyakane is a possible back up - from a BEE perspective.   I prefer Du Toit though - but am likely to be wrong.

Choosing Coenie or Marcel to tighthead our scrums is tantamount to waving the white flag.

We must expect a rainstorm of huge proportions - in principle I agree with Mozart in this case.

The question on the title of the thread is: "Who should be the props and Locks "in" the Rugby Championship".
What exactly does "look at" mean?
I could "look at" Henry Honnibal, James Small and John Smit for the RC, but I never specified I would select them?
Why are you looking at them? Do you need to knit them scrum caps? I did not realize that you were such an avid knitter.

Ummmm ... it's Schalk ... not Sarel, Mike.

Redelinghuis is surely a must at 3.

The Lions front row has dominated all that's come our way ... including the so called Bok front rows in the Sharks and Cheetahs.

We have something that's broke ... so let's fix it.
