Personally I prefer Willie on the wing and the Cheetahs moved him t owing to shore up their defence.

Our tw owings could be habana and Willie. Then how about Visser at 15. He has a big boot and is generally competent.

Possibilities:

Willie,

Mvovo,

Visser,

Lambie

So pick you Bok backline because for the 4 nations - it all has to gel.

One possibility:

Faf/Reinach

Potgieter/Pollard/Lambie

Habana

Jean

Allende

Willie

Visser/Mvovo

Is Visser a more complete fullback. Mvovo is still growing in the position. His boot is not quite up to it but he can certainly attack.

Personally I think JP lacks a yard of pace and loafs too much. Willie cannot be left out as he is so creative.

Based on performance thus far in Super 15 there can really be very little argument about the backline positions.   I would say the following is the best available backline combination:-
15   Le Roux - with Taute as an outside chance14   Mvovo - with JP a minor chance13   De Allende12   De Villiers - with Serfontein as back up11   Habana - the likely candidate - even not in Super 15.  Thin on the ground here.10   Goosen - Pollard is to play JWC in June and not available. Lambie still out. 9    Faf - with Reinach and Hougaard aslo potential candidates.
If Meyer is to select players on a performance basis - he will have to look at alternatives at scrummie, flyhalf and outsider center again - but Meyer does not believe in performance and is likely to come up with bullshit selections in those three positions.
Morne Steyn had very little game time this year - since Stade Franccais does not rate him and he is at best a bench player for them.    Based on that fact he is out of contention insofar as I am concerned.  Francois Steyn is a bad flop at 10 a nd as bad at 12.  Potgieter is not even the best flyhalf of the Bulls - so to my mind he is out - ran out of steam.   My choice at flyhalf will remain Lambie. Goosen and Pollard - with the latter progressing very well.
Although there is less problems in defense this year -  Engelbrecht has shown near to zero attacking ability    Fourie is slow as a mule and has no attacking ability at 13.  He cannot be compared with a player like De Allende - who is twice the player Fourie is at present.
Little Faf is the type of scrummie I like - as broad as he is high.  A real stof-poeper with cheek and guts - not afraid to take on anybody - while ducking under the defense of the big guys.    To my mind he was the "discovery" of this year and will go places in future.

Willie without a doubt, with Taute as the back-up. SP Marais was looking good for the money but for some reason has found little favour at the Sharks and has suffered as a result. Visser looked good last year but is playing the Bulls game these days and kicking too much.

Mvovo is no fullback, just does not have the rugby nous for a 15

Taute is too slow....the Highlanders exploited that with little chip kicks.

The Highlanders split their backline and Taute had to cover the players on the open side - so the kicks was made when he was not in  position to do anything about it.  Please check your facts before writing tripe.

Yep, Willie lacks sheer pace......he is no quicker than Taute who's pace is more than good enough for 15

Dream on Willie is fine for pace....Taute couldn't out sprint Nyakane.

You are funny about the Nyakane example - really funny.   However, I think Francois Steyn would be beaten by 10 meters by both over a 40 meter sprint race.

Taute takes these tiny chopping steps, which actually help him run in traffic. In space it gives him no stride length.....ergo no pace. And unfotunately his big legs don't translate into much kicking distance. Visser spiked the Taute pop gun boot.

Its hard to determine pace on a rugby field by looking at TV.  Pace can be determined only -
*  if players chase after balls;
*   haul in ball carriers running for the line
*   or in general play when balls are carried by own players and players follow up in support;
* when there is a tackle breakdown and the speed at which players arrive to protect the tackle ball and assist in breakdown ball recovery or turnovers.
Some players have ball sense and instinctively know where to be in given circumstances.   Burger is a typical example of a clever player,
Studying the above you can determine whether a player is pacy or inadequate.  It is consequently easy to determine whether a player has sufficient pace or not.  Take the example of follow up of a kicked ball.   Taute's speed is adequate in such a case.  So is he speed of most outside back players and centers with the exception of Francois Steyn - you wo uld never see him chasing down a kick and in the rare cases that he does he is left behind by virtually all players.   The same applies in following ball carrying players from his own side - he  always arrive late - normally together with the tight 5 players.  So he is definitely speed deficient.
Looking at the above Wille le Roux is speedy and probable a step or two ahead of Taute.   Mvovo, Basson, De Allende and Ndungane is also speedy in such cases - with Jordaan a few steps ahead of them.   De Jongh is rarely in the picture in such cases - don't know why - but he is not a good chaser after kicks.
I have always said our loosies are not speedy enough.   Most of our 7's are slow and turn up at breakdiwn balls together with the tight 5 players.  Their speed is on par with the tight 5 players and that is a serious problem.

Pure balls Mike....you can have a physical 7... a slow  fullback like Taute is a disaster, and the pop gun boot guarantees he will be a field position liability.

A physical 7 is OK - but then he must be doing the job and be faster than the tight 5 players - if he is not than he is useless and just an additional lock forward.  If he cannot do his job as part of the loose forwards in ball protection and recovery - he becomes a liability - not an asset.
A slow flyhalf is worse than a so-called slow full back.  You refuse to recognize the recent improvement to Taute's performances and make unsubstantiated statements not really tested about his running style and speed.
It is useless to discuss rugby issues with a prejudiced rugby illiterate - who can only copy what rugby journalists say and has no original idea of his own.

I thought you favoured Taute at centre, Stupid?

What changed your mind?

Probably a better option than JJ but still not really a wise choice.

I like Mvovo at 15 with Willie to the wing.

Saffex can probably say the same thing about you clown cunt. Why do you choose Willie now when you favoured Volmink??

Please spare us your take on rugby. We are all slightly dumber for having read it. Rather stick to personally attacking fellow bloggers. It takes way less skill and brain power..Coincidently 2 things you take the cake for when it comes to having less of!

Clevermike: I watched the Lions v Landers game & the loose forwards for the Lions were really good.

Sad to hear the commentators say that they have no chance of making the Bok team as they are "not big enough". They were very effective, especially Whitely. Let's see if Meyer has his eyes & mind open. The plan b for the boks could involve more running play but supported be faster loose forwards providing the link with the back.

Clown, I'd be more than happy with Taute at 13, in fact I think he is better suited to 13 than 15, much like Movovo is better suited to wing than 15.

Taute would be perfect on the Bok bench as a utility back.......a back-up to Willie at 15 and back-up to JJ at 13

I am not surprised at all to hear you would prefer Movovo at 15......shows you rugby ignorance to the full

I see ... your still confused huh?

What is it with you and your preference for outside backs at 13?

Both Taute and JJ suck at 13. The whole planet knows that cause they've seen it demonstrated over and over.

Perhaps you should put that glass of meths down, Stupid.

It's clouding your judgement.

At this stage Juergen Visser is by far the best of our S15 fullbacks. He has good attacking instincts, but fulfills his fullback duties properly. And his ability to totally outkick Taute was a big part of the Bulls win. If kicking for territory is likely to be part of RWC tactics you can't give up the metres that a Taute pop gun boot would lose you.

15. Willie
14. Mvovo
13. Jean
12. Steyn (must not play 10, doing well at 12. Had a shocker at 10 vs Brumbies )
11. Habana
10. really up for debate, Lambie injured, Steyn benched at stade france, Goosen looking average, Polard one for the future, Elton not good enough, Heyneke Will pick Steyn!
 9. Pretorius/Reinach. Heyneke will pick Du Preez if available
