IMO  the real favourites are only 2: New Zealand and Ireland. I would include England also but only because of their home advantage.

France have been very lucky in previous tournaments but luck doesn't last forever. PSA destroyed the traditional french expansive game and has not been able to establish an alternative gameplan. They now play trying to impose their forward pack's phisicallity but they lack structure. France won't beat Ireland and therefore they will have to play the AB in QF where they'll be easily beaten.

Wales lack depth and they have had too many injuries in the backline, Jonhatan Davies, Webb, Halfpenny and even one of the substitutes, Walker.

Australia have too many weak points. To begin with their captain. Moore is too impulsive, during the RC he was involved in every quarrel and he was constantly complaining to the refs which ended up irritating the refs, the worst thing a captain can do.
They don't have a established 9-10 pair and hardly will establish one for the WC. Genia and Foley have been out of form for the whole season, Nick Phipps don't know passing (which is the main task of a scrumie) and Toomua doesn't know kicking (his last game against the AB was disastrous) and then we have Cooper able of the best and the worst but who use to reserve the worst for the important matches.
Neither they have a established loose trio. Their best 2 backrowers play openside and is not yet clear if they are going to play both or not.  it seems that Hooper and Poc0ck are going to play together which is not a very good idea IMO but they don't have many other alternatives, Palu is not phisically up to test level and McCalman is a good SR player but has yet to prove he's a good test level nº8.
Their backline is one of the bests of the tournament and Folau will very probably be disputing the best player and most tries awards but their forward pack, in spite of the evident improvement with Mario Ledesma, will still lack grunt and won't be enough to hold the English pack. which has the edge over the aussies over the last years.

And South Africa have weak points all over the team. Their coach is way too conservative and his building of the team the last 4 years has been IMO disastrous. His bet for the old guard has been so unconditional that he has not develope the needed back-ups.
They lack a established  9-10 pair. After playing the whole last year with Pollard, the coach now realised that he's too green and out of form and opts for Lambie who has very little experience and most of his caps are from the bench, besides he used to crack down under pressure.
FdP is a puzzle but it's very doubtful that he can play the whole tournament at a high level, may be some matches but not the whole. Pienaar is now very average and Paige went unnoticed at SR level, let alone at test level.
Matfield is not phisycally up to test standard, Alberts has not played for the whole season and was already too slow with a very low workrate, JdV comes from a year-long injury and with his age a lot more of gametime is needed to get the form (it took almost a year to Carter), the outside backs (Le Roux, Kirchner, Mvovo) are too weak defensively,......... too many weak pointys to win a WC.

My prediction for the WC final is New Zealand-Ireland with England also very near and with chances of displacing I reland from it.

Agreed. New Zealand vs Ireland in the final. Not that I'm a genius or anything - it's just the way the paths have been set up on both sides of the draw.

The best side in the world does not necessary win this tournament in case some thick planks still think along these lines...this is what makes it unique and special and ofcourse very exciting...it's not about chest beating, it's about rugby in general and more importantly the love of the game.

Some don't like it and that's fine but leave it to those who do.

Logically it should be between NZ and Oz with Ireland as the danger.

But I have a feeling it will be England and France in the final and France to win.

If the winner is to be chosen on performance over the last 4 years then there's only one standout.....NZ. But then they've only won it on two occasions and that on home soil......are missing something here.... perhaps the RWC doesn't fancy favourites???

I don't know if the Irish have the mentality to win. Also, with a number of their stalwarts getting on a bit, one or two injuries to some of the old guard, and they'll look a very different side.
Final IMO Aus vs NZ. NZ winning. I think the AB's have finally got the monkey of their backs, and if their performance over the last four years is anything to go by, they'll really have to fluff it big time not to walk away with the trophy.
Dark horse, South Africa. Everyone has already written us off, which relieves a lot of the pressure. Also, The North suits our brand of rugby. We have a piss easy pool, which we will top and after that it is only three tight grinding test matches, the kind of rugby we're good at, and you're champions! I would not bet my house on the Boks, but it is a reasonable expectation.

It is a world wide conspiracy, the powers that be know if the ABs win the RWC too often public interest would decline so they put in the fix so we don't win it. I think that wee bloke Beeno has something to do with it

I'm yet to be convinced that the world cup format suits the AB style of playing, if the WC was run on a round robin basis then I would have no doubts as to who the winner would be. Even a format like the ICC where only the top tier teams compete in 2 groups would result in the AB's as champions.

Denny, I agree the format is a tough one for the ABs as the knock out aspect means your out if you have a bad day & your opponent plays out of their skin. It does give hope to nations that normally would not think they have a chance though & as it raises the profile of rugby world-wide it helps the game. I'm not sure the best team always wins but that's sports.

For sure the best team does not win, in 1995 for example the ABs and Wallabies were far better sides and we've openly said so. nother thing, when teams play the ABs they lift a gear...eg the Wallabies in 2003 when they defended out of their skins to beat your lot in the semis.
