I believe they have become much stricter on player recovery. Probably highly unlikely that Willemse will feature next week and rightfully so. The guy was properly knocked out.

Frans Steyn came om the last 20 min and did an okay job, big hits and decent kicking out of hand at goal.

However, there is no other 10 in the bok camp

Will they recall Jantjies? They never brought in Libbok.

There is Robert Du Preez who is okay.

Then Morné Steyn is retired.

Goosen hasn't played for 11 months and yet to get boots on

I feel Libbok should get a crack but it would be too late now given that he never attended any camps.

Curwin Bosh did okay this weekend against the lions.

Hendrikse of the lions was really poor this weekend and probably no where near bok selection yet.

Very interesting week .

Especially now that we are tied at 14 with the all blacks. Except for an inferior points difference.

They will probably go with Frans as can’t see them bringing in someone like Libbok who does not know the system Frans is a shit 10 and a complete has been I’d go with Libbok he was excellent for the Stormers last season I thought Hendrikse was fine yesterday what you on about?

There is a mandatory 12 day stand down if you fail a HIA.

Havili is out next week for this reason so if he failed his hia which I presume he did he can't play even if he is fine

Frans should play 10….the position he should have occupied for the Boks for the last 15 years. What a player….15 years ago he was representing the Boks in the WC final. Longevity is an understatement

Hell he has Dud Allende by 10 metres over the 100.

No, they tried Frans at 10 where his kicks got charged down several times and never got the chance to develop. To my mind his best position was 15.

That said, he has now converted 2 kicks from the touch line.

Not sure how will do on Saturday and if we can get the bonus point with that backline

If Steyn is at 10 - we will lose the match on Saturday.   He never was a real flyhalf and should not even be considered as a probable 10.    .

Mike,

The selectors put Willemese at #10 and he is not a fly-half who else would you suggest they call up from the Stormers?

They should call for Libbok or Jordan...they  can be of value, if given a chance....R&N will most probably go with Frans....not that Frans is bad but overweight....how long can he last and be match fresh?? Then when he is tired, who will replace him ?? There is not enough Depth at Flyhalf.

what difference does it make?

pollard, jantjies, willemse, fat fransie, libbok .... they are all the same sub standard dregs i was speaking of in an earlier post.

we no longer have a pool of cream to select from.

thats been systematically destroyed over the last 20 years and people like rassie and meyer have contributed to its destruction.

pick one ... anyone ... they're all the same ... there is no stand out Bok any longer.

Looking like Frans Steyn will start, with Faff covering scrumhalf and flyhalf from the bench.

Steyn has had good games at flyhalf. He started at flyhalf for the Sharks. Jake White says he is a good flyhalf but because of his size, he gets charged down when doing clearance kicks a bit too often. Although that has always been the case.

Moz you are delusional Frans was a useless 10, we all know that - has never had the software to manage a game and his hand to foot was ridiculously slow He could not have played many games at 10 for the Boks most would have been at 12 and 15. I reckon the only players in the squad he would beat over 10m would be Nyakane and Malherbe Kitshoff and Ox would have him

There are more problems at flyhalf than one normally thinks - h e is also a slow and poor distributor to backline attacks and make skip passes that neutralize backline overlaps and makes defense easier for the opposition and adds to abckline defensive provlems since he is at 12 a lousy defender as well.   As a result of injury to Willemse the present coaching staff used Steyn for the first time at flyhalf for part of the second half and the result was not really satisfactory.

I would rather accept a player like Libbok or Ngomezulu at flyhalf than Steyn. .

This is all ‘given wisdom’ based on a few charge downs when he was young. Then other favorites like Patrick Lambie were preferred.

But remember when 13 Sharks beat the Crusaders in Christchurch….at the helm Frans Steyn. In fact that was one of the best stretches we had in Super rugby, which stopped when Lambie returned.

This Frans thing was a slight joke, but I do believe the sheer stupidity of our rugby experts deprived us of a generational talent. How much Frans still has in the tank remains to be seen, but frankly he looked pretty decent last weekend.

I'll go with Frans ...... he'll be pomped at a packed Kings Park, kicking to perfection, & who knows, we might be able to add a new dimension to the game by getting him to tandem with DeeAhLinDay ........... when the latter rumbles forward on his customary steamroller sidestep, Frans can bind with him & the brickshithouse duo can together smash through the defence with their mighty mini rolling maul creating a myriad of opportunities.

Frans like so many have wasted their talents - he should have played double the tests he has and as our 12, not wasted at 15 or 10 Now he is fat, old, slow and lacks agility - evidenced by that embarrassing knock on fumble a few weeks ago He should be nowhere near a test squad

Considering the demands in a SA rugby team, anyone who is not first or second row should do the trick.

Apart from kicking, all the other players should meet the requirements.

How about Frans, with Esterhozen outside him….some rugby nous in that combination. Enough of Dud.
