We had a lot of good ball against France and Italy. But not even then could the Bok backline show a spark of creativity.....a simple wrap around, double wing, dummy runner......wing cutting in from the blindside. We only beat defenders from broken play and that was rare. Under HM we had some stale periods but always had a few tricks. Now we literally have nothing....Smith has to take the blame. He has had more than a season as Bok coach and produced nothing. If Coetzee goes, hopefully Smith eats sushi as well.

Boks in 2013 the second year of HM’s tenure.....46 tries in 12 games. Boks after 12 games in 2017 the second year of Coetzee’s tenure....34 tries. Tries in 6 games of the RC in 2013....22 Tries in 6 games of the RC in 2017....17 We are scoring only 75% of the tries we scored under the maligned HM. I’m not advocating HM’s return....but our backline was much better under him.

Meyers backline in his first-year was poor. When Willie Leroux played things improved markedly. Habana was also good for much of the Meyer years. Willie Leroux was responsible for scoring many tries- as well as setting up others. Leroux's form dipped in 2015- and with it, our backline became a shambles. Willie Leroux's aimless chip kicks became overtly predictable, and then Schalk played at 10. Meyer was more expansive than Coetzee, but when Leroux was on form he was good.

More the fool for Coetzee ignoring a quality player like Le Roux. Also Gelant deserved a shot this tour. Whereas as Cheetahs under Smith could score tries the Bok backline looks clueless when it comes to running ,lines, passing putting people into spaxce loop arounds chip kicks etc etc. History proves one thing- few teams ever coached by Coetzee has had a properly functioning backline
