How much better would Meyer as national coach be prepared if he had an A side to draw on who employed the same game plan and used the same calls as his test side.

While the NH lag behind in terms of results, their national sides are better equipped in terms their feeder system for both their A sides and U20's compete in their own version of the Six Nations.

Our A side never competes and our U20's only play in the annual junior WC.

We should be doing the same during the Rugby Championship. Travel costs would be the only difference in terms of logistics, so why the hell dont we do the same as the NH?

Imagine a Bok A squad comprising:

15. W. le Roux / Visser

14/11. Rhule / v/d Heever /  Mapoe / Petersen / Sithole

13/12. Jordaan /  JJ. Engelbrecht  / Serfontein / F.Venter / Whitehead

10. Jantjies / Swiel / Katrekillis

9. Reinach / Groom / v/Zyl

1/3. Kitshoff / Malherbe / Marcel v/d Merwe / Mellett / Frik Kirsten

2. Fourie / Callie Visagie / Burden

4/5. Willemse / Steph du Toit / Bresler / Jandre Marais / Quinn Roux

6/7/8. Kolisi / Elstadt / v/d Walt / Arno Botha / CJ Stander / Hattingh / Daniel (c)

Would love to see a side comprising the best of the above against an Oz, NZ and Argie A side as curtain raiser to the test between the nations.

@saffex,

ive touched on this topic many many times in the past and i completely agree 100%. the wallabies, Boks and All Blacks all need to do more in terms of keeping that level up and the respective natios A teams competing on some level would do just that. i mean even the NH womans teams compete ina 6 nations tournament of their own. its quite emabrassing how far behind we are in this area, o_O

heres my idea though. ive always found every All Blacks match i go to to be well worth the money, but hey our winning pecntage makes that obvious (lolz). but i do wish for more bang for my buck, so when the All B lacks travel to sydney for their frist match, why not have the jrAll Blacks vs the wallabies A team as a curtain raiser, meanwhile in SA when the pumas come to travel for their first match, the emerging Boks can take on the pumas A team as their curtain raiser.
the logistics in team travelling would be extrmely suitable while those fringe players get some top quality games to stay sharp, btu the bonus factor is the fans get an extra patriotic thing to cheer for.
who wouldnt want to watch two games back to back of ur nations top players going at it. i cant see how that wouldnt increas ratings.

end of the day, something needs to be done, cos this is unacceptable for the SH.

Agreed Sas it would be a great days rugby......I'd take it a step further. Have 3 matches on the day. The U20's, followed by the A side and then the test match - it would be rugby heaven.

The A side would compete on a high level and would afford the test coach the perfect opportunity to observe his next best under pressure.

The U20's would highlight the talent coming through.

What a days rugby that would be
