There happen to be a youngster by the name of Stassen - loaned by the Bulls in the off-season to Stade Francais in the off-season - still playing for Stade despite his contract with the Bulls.

One wonders why the Bulls are not insisting on his return in terms with his contract - unless Stade has compensated the Bulls to get Stassen to remain with Stade.   There was nothing in the media on that score and I remain wondering why Stassen has not returned to the Bulls.

If Stade has not compensated by agreeing with the Bulls they are setting an extremely bad precedent insofar as contracting of players and breaching of contracts are concerned,

Meyer has been doing it for years. He stripped the bulls of their entire coaching team when he became bok coach.

He has a knack for poaching youngsters from other unions too. So this won't be the last time that he will get other youngsters onboard.

That said, I also think SA or world rugby in general need to introduce transfers or some form of compensation. If thing how much money SA has invested in a professional player development only to have a foreign lure them with more money and not having to pay cent.

On the transfer, I think that it is harder than in football for rugby considering the players high attrition rate.

Of course it's entirely possible this is agreed informally between the clubs. Is that more likely or is it more likely that HM is blowing up his relationship with Bools over......er....Stassen.

unless Stade has compensated the Bulls to get Stassen to remain with Stade.

According to Netwerk24, Stade Français have offered the Bulls a large amount to keep Stassen, who can play both lock and flank.

Have not seen that Netwerk story - why don't you quote it on site - then we will all be the wiser.   If it was factual - why was it not on any other rugby website - like Rugby365, Planet Rugby, News24 or timeslive?

If it was factual - why was it not on any other rugby website - like Rugby365, Planet Rugby, News24 or timeslive?

How should I know? Although it's not exactly hidden as the very first simple Google search I did for Stassen and Stade brought me to this mention on SArugbymag.

Since I don't have a Netwerk24 subscription I can't read the article, but to please you I googled the title of the article and found it copied out here.

---------------

Interesting article -  I think the amount should at least have been $200 000.

There is good reason Meyer is trying to hang onto Stassen he is a damn fine prospect. A no nonsense in your face type of lock who stands back for no one. With Lood and RG injured the Bulls could sure do with the services of Stassen. I see their other young lock Eli Snyman is off to a NH club after the Super rugby season

I agree they need to think of some way to make money out of players leaving overseas.  The Northern Hemisphere just use SuperRugby as a feeder system for new players.
I think all the SA teams need to make an agreement- with SA Rugby.  If a player can be transferred from one SA team to the next if out of contract, but if transferred overseas there is a double contract. So if a player is in a 2-year contract - they can leave overseas in 4 years (unless released by SA rugby - if they are just shit and no SA team wants them).

Otherwise, they have to play another 2 years for any SA team. Otherwise, they can be bought out of the double time contract - by an overseas club and the money goes to the Union that invested in them- and SA rugby.

Another huge loss to SA rugby. Stassen will play for France he is the real deal unless stupid Rassie wakes up to the fact. My guess is Jacques du Plessis is the next to be picked by France as Rassie spends most of his time fast asleep

we will have to see what Erasmus do nearer to the RC and the WC before we can make a statement about him being asleep.   Unlike Meyer - Erasmus will pick players on performance.

All of the players that you mention are real quality. I think a team picked from overseas players would beat the springboks any day of the month.

15. Willie

14. Kolbe

13. Serfontein

12. Frans Steyn / Janse Van Rensburg

11. Duhan v d Merwe

10. Goosen

9 Reinach

8 Ackerman

7 Du Plessis

6 Marcell Coetzee

5 Stassen

4 Willemse

3 Marcel van der Merwe

2 Bismark

1 Kebbel

This just the ones on top of my head
