If South Africa was NZ there would be a constant whine for the volcanic Fekitoa to replace "old Man" Smith....who is, I hate to say it, almost 33. Ball in hand Fekitoa may be the hardest centre in the world to sop. Hell, even de Jongh missed him once in full flight....and de Jongh is a deadly open field tackler.

Still let's not get diverted. Why are NZ fans not calling for Conrad's head. Well some of that was apparent when Crotty was replaced by Fekitoa after 40 minutes last Saturday. The NZ passing game lost a bit of it's slickness. Perhaps a clever passer with vision is more dangerous than an explosive runner.

That's where Smith comes in, he is such an alert player, The lubrication in so many of the AB cogs. He is also a brilliant non structured tackler....ie one who will make the tackle when the opponent breaks into space. Your big blocky types struggle with this.

Above all it seems to me NZ fans have a bit more nous and can see this. Or perhaps they don't have the group without nous, who see nothing.

Conrad reminds me of the type of player the Wallabies used to have ,smart contributor in lots of plays that go unnoticed because he is so slick and also an important part of the leadership group .Fekitoa is still a wee bit one dimensional especially regarding passing .Some geezer wrote an article in the roar about how Conrad was "over rated " and he couldnt understand why he was an AB. you just cant explain some things to blokes who rate youthful rockem' sockem' exuberance ahead of match winning experience, skill  and smarts in a body thats still doing whats asked of it.

Yes Fekitoa is a bit one dimensional at the moment. He will develop but never be a Conrad. Croty showed us some skills & smarts do I am glad he got his first start.

Smith is on the way out Fik is the new real deal. The ABs get it right they introduce Fik with an eye to replacing Smith unlike the Meyer way where useless washed up has beens are recalled to replace classy youngsters.
You don't see the kiwis doing that. Their model is spot on.

Actually what you don't see the ABs doing is dropping in form veteran players for flavor of the day newbies....there is a NZ team. Think about it this way...none of Hendriks, de Allende, Lambie, Goosen, Pollard, Reinach, Malherbe, Lomp, or Coetzee will make the AB team ...if we pick them we are  conceding the advantage.

Rubbish hendricks is better than Jane,  De allende as good as Fik who are both on the rise while smith is slipping, lambie, Goosen and pollard are better than Cruden, reinach is as good as smith, malherbe is better than the older franks, lood is as good as retallick and better than whitelock and coetzee is better than mc caw and messam.

It looks like HM prefers to toss the youngsters in at the deep end and see how they fare ,would that be true ? Or does it just appear that way ? I like how young blokes like Ardie Savea are inoculated with the ABS team culture first and gradually get blooded without being bloodied .Being given a run on when the pressure is off must make it much easier to handle and become used to test match stresses.

lambie cant read defences, cant fix his man, cant tackle, cant pass well, he is slow and cannot make even the most basic decisions. man cruden is not the perfect 10 but he is pretty useful lambie has zero! goosen is just a bare bones link. with all those angled runners coming onto the ball at pace at the cheetahs it doesnt really matter that he cant play flat because they target the wider channels with their raw speed where they can play off of their 13 and 15 or the forwards before reversing play on one of their attack patterns (strauss is SO awesome at getting that quick go forward ball to setup the reverse). so saggex, you be trippin'

De Jongh a deadly open file dtackler - hahahahaha good one Dr Moz!
Conrad carthorse is way over hyped. If abs were wise they would play Feki. Thankfully Conrad looks set to stay as do es mcaaaw etc.

Some SA posters (Beeno) would throw Fekitoa in the deep end al la the Bok approach to player development.

ABs prefer to let a player develop by getting him in the squad for a while, then bringing him off the bench for a limited time gradually increasing it. Sometimes we don't have this luxury but this is the approach. In the case of Fekitoa he can develop next to Conrad, this is a perfect situation.

Not necessary every SA fan would agree, Mozart, there are those that give credit and favour in the right context. Age and/or maturity has on it's own got nothing to do with it in every case...it is entirely individualistic...Cloudy mentioned Frank Bunce who was 35 with Fitzpatricks AB's and shear class and fit...and a steps ahead of those latter day players mentioned.

It's individual fitness, sharpness and strength...what applies to one man does not necessary to another. Matfield and Botha (Bakkies) are entirely a different story.

Gonzo your view on PL is utter nonsense and crap. G is for Gonzo, goiter, gonorrhea and gout...hey ho says Rowley...lol.

Lambie is a small, slow chap with no step and little confidence. Yep, let's have more of those!
De Jongs test stats are about 92 per cent tackle success. They are lower in the. s15, for the simple reason that de Jongh attempts plenty of low probability kick chase tackles. He doesn't watch his stats. The Stormers emphasize the deep tackle.
If De Jongh were to hang back like JJ and only tackle in structured defensive situations he would be very high on the list. But this is post graduate stuff....don't let it worry you HasBen.

you are so right mozart! its kinda like morne at ellis park all of his misses were chasing from behind after new zealand already tire a gaping chasm in our defence ... even made some try saving tackles. but the twisty snake man mika used that to lie. all dirty liars.
