 This is a load of big and rather meaningless arguments - the real reasons can be summarized in three facts, namely uncontrolled immigration forcing down wages, a wicked bureaucracy in Brussels providing regulation of lives of everybody - the fact that ordinary people have lost trust in politicians and politics.  People look at their own circ umstances and find it unacceptable and in this case they blame the EU for much of their misery.  Three easy to understand reasons.

 JW - I am not for or against - but the EU has developed a system that is crushing the ordinary people and their aspirations.  Take for instance industry in France - the industrial sector in fact declined since the Euro was introduced and the French Government does not have the means to maintain their welfare system.  In recent wee ks there were massive strikes in France as a result.  I am not sure whether this is not another issue that would cause the collapse of the support for the  EU in France.  Matter of fact the French are going the same way - the  EU-sceptics already have the majority iro the EU Parliamentary membership getting more votes than the established and major parties got.  The only way the present Government in France can survive is a coalition of the traditional parties.  In the Netherlands it is the same - in Denmark, Hungary and Poland there are already parties in charge of Government that is basically opposed to the EU and Austria is going the same way.  Even the support base of Merkel is under strain in Germany.  I think Mozart wrote elsewhere that replacement of the Common Market by a political Union is a huge mistake - especially if the structures of that Union is basically not democratic and the EU Commission is not accountable for their actions to the EU Parliament.

The Eu should have realized the risk as the voters also rejected the EU constitution several years ago. This was a signal that they were disconnected from the voters as they were shocked at the rejection. So I agree there is arogence yet again - no lesson learned.Even though the referendum was just for that we island & not for all Europe the lesson is clearly more than for the Brits.
I feel sorry for the young as they are inheriting the debt & problems of the baby boomers. We had a long period of economic growth after the destruction of Europe & now want to keep things the way the were - news flash the British empire is long gone & wont be back. The solution of global problems does not lie in trying to return to the past.
Hopefully the negs with the EU do not result in isolation because Briton still needs to trade with Europe, etc.

 Clever mike, the problems Europe faces are not all because of the EU.  Many of these problems would have existed anyway, it is not just because of regulations & bureacracy. Many rules are good, eg those for food safety, telecommunication , medication, etc. the problem is national Politicians contribute to the negative perceptions of voters by blaming EU for national problems. This is especially true in Briton. For sure the Eu bureaucracy is bad, inefficient & arrogant but those are the problems to be addressed but leaving is the big bomb solution. Each member state has representation in the EU council (Cameron for example ) in the EU parliament & in the European Commission . However, the results did not address the citizens needs in Briton. 
We will see how this evolves but I think those negotiating the withdrawal for Briton will not get what they promised& will still use the EU as their scape goat. I hope things in Europe don't continue to disintegrate because with economic problems come social problems & sometimes war.

 JW - my problem is the issue of democracy.  Lets put it bluntly - the EU Commission is not accountable to the EU Parliament for what they do.  Their thousands of regulations covered some good things - the rest are basically just crazy and aimed at protection of industries in some countries, especially Germany.  I do not think anybody has problems with the regulations listed by you - but the rest are basically anti ordinary people and the workers.    I do not like the big bomb solution either - but it is time that the leaders in countries gets back the right to protect their own people from a foreign non -democratic institution that is affecting their every-day life badly.  Hope the EU has learnt a lesson - it is better to response to the needs of the people than to leave their fate in the hands of the EU Commission and their over-paid and unaccountable bureaucracy.

DELUDED Nicola Sturgeon has claimed Scotland can remain part of the European Union while keeping the Pound and retaining a border-free crossing with England.

Scotland voted overwhelmingly to retain membership by 62% to 38%, with all 32 local authorities returning a majority for Remain.

 JW - Building walls in what has become the global village is not on.   We have the crazies in the world that advertise that - but super-governments and empires do not work either and will never work.  The way some wants to do it is to create undemocratic institutions that prescribe to people what to think.  The result in he world is a system of "haves" and "have-nots".  The vast majority of people fall in the "have-nots" category.   In Europe the "have-nots" people are not as badly off as they are in other countries.  In Africa millions are starving - Zimbabwe being a typical example.  So they must be fed by welfare organisations - who care what happens to the ordinary people - while their elite governments do not give a damn.   In SA the poor are getting restless and are turning on the Government as a reason for their suffering - billions are voted for improvement in their lives - but at least 40% of that never reaches them, it is looted by the elite before it can reach the poor.

 Beeno, I am a devil for punishment in trying to engage you in debate but one has to pass the time somehow not everyone wants to leave the EU, I currently live I Poland & Eu money has poured into this country & they have had an economic resurgence , they are better off than any time in history. But the right wing party who have the same political base as Trum@p etc. were elected a year or so ago. They love to blame the EU for any problems the society faces. Some people have done very well, the younger educated people mainly. There is a lot of economic & societal change & not all see the benefits. This country has many of the symptoms that resulted in the Leave win. But now the people realized that in Poland the party that won the election lied (more than most politicians) & there have been the biggest protests in polish history since they threw out the Comminists. The party in power is changing the constitution & weakening the courts and other governmental institutions that counter balance their power. This has people furious & rightly so.
Other "new member states" really have benefited from being members of the EU & now are worried about the possible break up of the Union. They are growing economically while in the old member states their economies are not (except for Germany). There is a lot of discontent in these countries.
My point is that not all member states want to leave the EU & not everything is wrong with the EU. the leavers are frustrated & wanted to be heard, they want simple solutions but leaders need to led & propose solutions that will work & are not simple minded solutions. You may be happy down below in Trum@pets cave but not everyone wants to live in a cave talking to themselves Beeno.
