The following from News24:-
"While the Western Province scrum, flyhalf Robert du Preez and centre Huw Jones all stole the headlines in Saturday's Currie Cup final win over the Sharks in Durban, it was also a massive day for 19-year-old Damian Willemse

It has been a breakthrough season for the Paul Roos old boy, who has shone throughout with his attacking skill, distribution and seemingly other-worldly side-stepping ability.

While flyhalf appears to be his best position, Willemse was utilised in the No 15 jersey towards the back-end of this Currie Cup season as Robert du Preez came into his own in the No 10 jersey.

Du Preez is on his way to the Sharks next year, and WP coach John Dobson confirmed after the 33-21 win that he had offered Willemse the flyhalf position for the business end of the Currie Cup given that he is considered to be the future of the union.

"I actually went to Damian a couple weeks ago when we beat the Sharks and Rob was outstanding and I said 'listen, you’re the future of the union and this guy is leaving ... I’m happy to play you at No 10,'" Dobson said.

Willemse's response was unexpected.

"He said 'No, I’m loving it and I want to play with Rob,'" Dobson said.

"People can criticise from outside about why we're not playing him at No 10, but you could see how many times today he played first receiver ... the plan worked very well."

Willemse's rise this year has been astounding, and Dobson believes that he is a player who should be considered incredibly valuable to the future of South African rugby, regardless of what position he plays.

"For a guy who was writing matric exams this time, last year, in the pressure cooker that was an exceptional performance," Dobson said of Willemse's display in the final.

"I think he is one of the serious talents of South African rugby and you’ll see he’s going to play both positions moving forward."

This youngster definitely put the interests of the team ahead of his own interests.   He seems to have all the abilities - unlike Bosch with his defensive frailty and I think that he is going to make the Springbok no 10 jersey in time to come.

Unless the competitors like Pollard, Jantjies and Bosch buck up their performances massiv ely - that future of Willemse may even start next year.

Listen - doos - what have you seen in the above article?   Have you seen any matches in which this guy Willemse played?    The stupid Meyer would have continued with Morne - but we know he flopped consta ntly after 2012 - so what can you bring to the discussion with your BS showing through clearly.

Either way ... he needs to be given his shot as soon as possible ... one would have thought the EOYT would have been perfect ... BUT ... our brain dead ignorant coach has over looked the talent and hasn't bothered to invited him on tour.

It's typical of the ignorant fool we have as coach. He has no idea who the talented players are ... black, coloured or white ... totally ignorant. Fcuk knows which planet this fool's been living on.

Du Preez, Pollard and Willemse have a chance at making the Bok flyhalf position their own.
I don't think Bosch has it as he is a flawed player and is likely to remain defensively flawed. He was swotted aside like the flyweight he is. Shame on Coetzee for ignori ng Du Preez.

IMO Willemse jas more potential than Bosch, but both are much too green to even be considered.  Willemse sbould have been the U20 fly-half too. The Bosch hype was way over the top to begin with. Willemse was the better player in Craven Week too.

Exactly. We are calling these kids Springboks before they have shown they are effective in Super Rugby.Never, ever in a 100 years would that happen in NZ.

I need to see more of Willemse's kicking game to see how well he plays a 10 man game, as well as 15 man.
Also how his defence against 110KG backs.
We need an all-round flyhalf that can kick, pass and run, and defend.

With due respect I rather believe Dobson than you.    This youngster at 19 is twice the flyhalf Pollard was at that age.
I have seen him play in a number of games and he is not afraid to tackle - a good defender.   He has pace as well and is a clever player - a real natural.
You should by now know my personal norm - selection should be based on consistent performance - nothing else.   If a younger player like swiel shows promise he should be watched in future to see how he develops.    If such a player fail to develop further and his performance does not justifies slection he has failed and no amount of recrimination on your part would help.
Dibsn knows more about rugby than you and so does Gert Smal.   They did not rebew Ron du preez's contract and he is leaving for the Sharks,   They are backing on Willemsse as the future fluhalf of the Stormers/WP.   Live with it.

Like Jan Serfontein is twice the player Jean was? Nobody is saying the kid doesn’t have potential, that won’t win a test against Ireland in a few weeks. He has to do his apprenticeship like any young player......have we not learned from Swiel, Goosen, Venter, Koch, Allende, Dreyer, Faf de Klerk, Kriel, Stepfontein, Rhule, Coetzee.....and Bosch ? ... Apparently not.....it seems we aren’t going to learn either.......just an endless circle of young players that simply have to be chosen and then flop. These kids have to learn their craft at senior level which is totally different to age group rugby.

What has the Serfontein story got to the above?  OK - I forgot there has never been a player showing promise at an early age who made the grade subsequently.

Wrong Jean did, Habana did, Etzebeth did, Pollard did before his injury. Rarely a young player is test ready immediately. That was true of greats like ODriscoll, Barrett, Carter......but even a great player like Carter never had a path straight into the AB team. .. Willemse may or may not turn out to be a Bok flyhalf......but he hasn’t shown enough yet to even get a berth on our bench Playing in the Super Rugby QF he turned over the ball more times than any other player in the QFs except Jaco Kriel who matched him. .. Willemse had an excellent CC final at fullback. Hopefully he builds on that and starts his international career when he is ready.....we don’t need any more Goosens.

Agreed Moz....and Mike I'm sure Smal and co tried very hard to keep Rob du Preez in CT, but he wants to play with his brothers.

SharkSh!t ... why would you need to see more of him ... have you not been watching the CC matches this year?

Why then are you even commenting?

I know you adore Jantjies ... but sadly he's not the answer. Sorry to burst your bubble, boet.

Willemse has impressed, so why not test him at a higher level? We have nothing to lose and this tour would have been perfect to do just that.

We most certainly cannot persist with Jantjies. He's a walking disaster.

So no ... it's not a matter of waiting for better days ... give him 20 minutes against each opponent and see what happens. We'll soon see if he has what it takes.

Meyer also took an age with certain players. Apparently to "learn the Bok culture" ... or so he said. It's a crock of shyte.

If he's good enough he's old enough and besides beggars can't be choosers.
