I for one am relieved that we finally have a decent coach, he still has to proof himself but there is no 4 year plan. I like the fact that he wants to win every game and not wait till the tri-nations or world cup. He seems to have a deep understanding of the players and clear communication of what he expects from them. Just hope that he doesn't get pulled into the media circus in the event that his team go through a dry patch.
I don't like concervative rugby or 10 man rugby, but what he did with the bulls team was a near miracle. I know that he has an atacking game in him and can get of the players when neeeded but he also know in order to win you need to do the basic right. Thats what i felt Jake lack, a plan B or C. Jake had one style of play and that was it.
These are the challenges for Meyer:
Beat the 17 run record of no defeats.
Win the Championship/Tri-nations 2 years in a row
Whitewash the all blacks in NZ
Whitewash the Wallabies in Aus
Win a grand slam tour at the end of the year
Make the boks the number 1 ranked team in the world for more than 3 months
Provide the best possible coaching to the boks, better than what they would receive anywhere in the world, making them better players for their unions.
I will always be a WP supporter but I believe if Meyer sticks to his guns and play winning rugby, develop new talent and make SA rugby strong, then we have a lot to look forward to.
Now we just need to get rid of Saru and we will be on our way.
