Will the bonus point come back to haunt the Boks

Now that the dust has settled following the Bismaark saga, a loss is still a loss.

With NewZealand scoring 4 tries to the Boks 2 tries, how critical will this be a the end of the tournament.

The boks went into match leading the table by one point over the All Blacks.

With the AllBlacks getting a bonus point win, they gained 5 points and the Boks none.

In the 70th minute after Lambies try it remained plausibale for the Boks to score again and get a bonus point loss- of losing with less than 7 points.

The current status quo is that the-

1. All Blacks will likey beat Argetina and, a good a chance of getting a 5 point win for 4 tries.

2. The Boks will likey beat Australia and, a good a chance of getting

5 point win for 4 tries.

Assuming both teams win with 4 tries in their next matches,

This means that if the boks win, it will come down to points difference.

The Boks should still have enough of a difference to be higher.

However if the All Blacks get a bonus point for either 4 tries or finishing with less than 7 points they will win the tournament.

I hope it has no bearing on the ulitmate winner of the RC as that would mean Poite's poor judgment affected more than just the outcome of one game.

dont worry about it boys, All Blacks arent going to lose any mathces in the RC/4nats, so problem solved.

Obviously the bonus point against SA will make it virtually impossible to catch up with the AB's especially if they also (like last year) gets a bonus point from the Pumas game. The only way the Springboks can saty in touch is to get a bonus point against the Wallabies. However, I do believe that SA will not get a bonus point against the Wallabies and the chances of the Springboks beating the All Blacks in Johannesburg is remote. The main reason is the team selection by Meyer - especially in the case of certain positions. Meyer is likely to retain Kirchner - but the real weak selection is in respect of the loosies. Lets look at their performances in the Soweto test last year:- Louw 0/0 0 0/4/4 0 0 0 0 0 5/2 0/0 0 0/0 Alberts 0/0 0 0/1/4 5 0 0 1 0 1/0 2/0 0 0/0 Vermeulen 0/0 0 0/4/1 0 0 0 0 1 6/0 3/0 0 0/0 Mozart always blame Taute for the loss - but the loosies clearly underperform. A clear indication of major under-performance is the following:- NUMBER OF BALL CARRIES AND DIUSTANCE GAINED The Springbok loosies carried the ball 9 times for a total gain of 5 meters The All Black loosies carried the ball 18 times for a total gain of 115 meters TACKLES MADE The Springbok loosies made 12 tackles - missing 2 The AB loosies made 31 tackles - missing none. If the same loosies is retained by Meyer - the same would happen this year - the AB loosies will run circles around them and the inevitable result will be a win by the AB's. There are other weak spots that contributed to the loss last year - like Jantjies at flyhalf - Steyn is at least a bit better than Jantjies - but we are weak in line - outs and loosie play. The only way the AB's will lose is if Retallick and/or Nonu get carded - both really are strong candidates for that.

that bonus point was headshot to the boks winning this comp.

i dont rate our chances against the AB at ellis park as mike has pointed out the selections will stay the same and the surface at ellis park is firm and hard so expect the AB to once again enjoy hordes of ball %.

on current form unless the AB has a bad day at the office its not looking pretty for us. the wallies are in a building phase under mckenzie so they will be a major threat next year.

@mike nice stats just also one point to make mention is the amount of ball the AB had to play with as well. having 3 ball carriers as your lose trio means zero if you have the shortend of the ball% stats.
