The 41st Craven week for Primary Schools just came to conclusion in Bloemfontein.

In the DHL Western Province team, there was a young NR 8 from the Primrose Rugby Club in Lansdowne, Zakareeyah Salie.

In their first match on the Monday, WP beat the Pumas 36-5. Zakareeyah Salie, who was one of the try scorers, went on to be named Man of the Match.

In their second game, Zakareeyah was once again the star performer, when WP beat The Leopards 45-0. He scored three of the teams 7 tries.

It seems that Salie has played the u13 craven week alight and most pundits have him as the player of the tournament.  I wonder how many of these extreme talents at under 13 level actually go ahead and become Boks. Would be very interesting to see the stats.

Far too young to tell. Having coached the same bunch of lads from aged 9 to under 15 today, there have been some kids who shone at U13 level and now playing for the U15B side and vise versa.

I recall a kid being in our C team one year and two years later he was in the Northampton Saints squad.

While on the topic of names, lets see if my 3 will play for England one day. They have completed the U15 season and been invited to the England U17 training group. Cameron Ives is a 13, Ethan Waddleton is a 12 and Alex Moon is a lock (6'8 and 105kg) - will any of these kids play for England one day - time will tell

"I recall a ponderous plodder that I kept in our C team, because he was boring and didn't have the creative flair required one year and two years later he was chosen by some other fools to play in the Northampton Saints squad."?

Of so iets!!!

Greetings to Apollo - enjoy the rucks!!

Things can change dramatically. Some kids mature early and shine but are later overtaken and drop away. One reason why many youngsters starring at junior level never kick on.

Snapster with all that bad coaching do these three have a real chance - honestly now?

I have been their inspiration Beenkop!!!!

Who knows whether they will make it, they have their hearts set on it. The two centres are certainly the best I have seen at their age group and Mooney is huge. You cannot believe this kid at 6'8 is 15. Good sportsman as well, plays 1st team cricket as an opening bowler and no mug with the bat. Agressive on the rugby field, so given his size and the fact that he has skills, time will tell.

Saff if I understand things correctly, you coach in SA? Why is it that you are already talking of these young talents playing for England one day? I assume you advise them against looking to England for their future?

Right, that explains a few things. That gives me a different perspective on your comments. A good one.
