He scored a superb try today, made a brilliant instinctive step as he gained possession and then outstripped the cover defence for 75 metres. Not many South African flyhalves over the years could do that.
He also has a genuine sidestep off both feet as opposed to the ritual inside step of players like Barrett and Stepfontein. A genuine attacking threat.
The good news is that he also defends stoutly, making 9 of his 11 tackles against a team running at pace. He looks the real deal physically.
So, as with all flyhalves, the question is can he control a game tactically......like a Sexton. And can he kick imaginatively out of hand.
This match was more of an attacking free for all, so there was little evidence on the day. But if he can add that dimension, at 19, he has to be one of the most exciting prospects out there.
