It finally seems like we have a long term prospect at 15. I like the look of Marais alot. Safe under the high ball, fast, elusive and with a big boot. Minus the mistakes which have always been common of Willie at 15. My Bok back three as things stands after Round 2: 15.Marais, 14.Le Roux, 11.Habana. It doesn't get much better then that. Now for an outside centre...

Notable mentions would be Mvovo, Coetzee, Kankowski and Reinach. All have been very slick. Particularly impressed with Coetzee and Mvovo, who is playing more intelligently and with far greater work ethic - not just hugging the touchline waiting for the ball.

Like Francois Steyn - Marcell Coetzee for it in the neck for ball hogging -especially on the Sharksworld website.   Slick no - he passed only one  ball  and gave away 3 penalties too many.

Michael, those penalties are the result of pressure exerted at the breakdown. Jake's philosophy is that those penalties are inevitable, and should occur at the other end of the field - just as with the Brumbies. He has been playing very good rugby, one of the most important members of the team right now easily. His defence has been very good. And as per passing? Pass just for the sake of passing, like the days of Plumtree where the shuffled happily into a cul-de-sac all day long? No. Added to that the Hurricane defence was up very quickly and with intent to cut out the wide channels. Had you watched more carefully you would have noted that there weren't many passing opportunities that Frans or Coetzee missed. Kankowski himself said at half time the Sharks were trying t force too many dangerous passes and that they needed to keep it simple. Low and behold that is what they did in the second half! You are quite out of touch with Jake, so should refrain from speaking on his behalf.

@mikey,
are u a little peed off at coetzee for only getting u 7 pts in foxsport???
tehehehehe,

@suntzu,
that would be my Bok oustside trio too,,, 11 habana, 15 sp marais, 14 w le roux.

really really imprssed with sp marais in his first two outings, but will be interesting to see how he fares against tougher competition.
no offense to the bulls and my canes, but both have been down right horrible in thier performances so far.

I think Willie is better attacking from fullback. Gives him the freedom to pop up at first receiver or anywhere in the line. Confining him to the wing would restrict his options. His play in the Bok jersey seems more thoughtful and precise than with the Cheetahs where I think he makes poor decisions sometimes - always trying to force things.

Willie resorts to kicking when at 15. It certainly is an option, but not the best overall. When put under pressure though he makes a lot of very costly mistakes. He has to date made done more on attack for the Boks on the wing.
