Some interesting permutations:

If the Boks win the group, they'll likely face Scotland. In the case of an upset, that would be Ireland. If we qualify second, we will likely face Ireland in the fourth QF.

If the Boks win QF1 or QF2, they could face England/France/Argentina (Pool C) or Australia/Wales (Pool D).

It's tough to predict what will occur in the other quarter-finals, but we do know that avoiding Ireland in the QF is a must. Beating New Zealand is thus imperative. Setting up a rematch between the two would be the last thing the reigning champions need in their current state.

Quarter-Final 1 & 3 Permutations

  1. France vs Australia
  2. France vs Wales
  3. England vs Australia
  4. England vs Wales
  5. Argentina vs Australia
  6. Argentina vs Wales
Quarter-Final 2 & 4 Permutations

  1. Ireland vs New Zealand
  2. Ireland vs South Africa
  3. Scotland vs New Zealand
  4. Scotland vs South Africa
* Just switch team names for secondary QF

The PoolTournament turns on 1 Boks vs NZ ....21/09 2 England vs France ....12/10 3 Australia vs Wales.....29/09 All the other matches are decided at about a 95% confidence level. The CWC format throws up many more good pool games.

What a task it'll be getting out of Pool D. Tonga are a very niggly, physical side too. If it wasn't bad enough having those three heavyweights together, they have to negotiate Tonga.

Memories of Fiji stunning Wales in 2007 come to mind. Can they surprise us all? The "minnows" have come a long way these past few years. One wonders if another upset is on the cards. Japan vs South Africa in the QFs?

I'm going to hold out for the 'Malherbe's Mom Edition' . For ¥250 you can't go wrong.
