A lot of movement today after all the tests. I still have no clue how they work even though I've read the explanations. Canada started the PNC in 13th. We beat 2 teams ahead of us in the standings(Tonga, Fiji), and 1 team below us(USA). Then we lost to the 8th ranked Irish team, and lost only by 3 to the lower seeded Japan IN Japan. Now we are ranked 15th behind Japan??? So we go 3-2, beat teams like Tonga, barely lose to Japan on there home soil, and we drop 2 spots? Makes no sense.

Also, I don't think i've ever seen the USA so low before. Bad month all round for them.

Anyway. Here they are...for whatever they're worth.

1(1) NEW ZEALAND 90.08 2(2) SOUTH AFRICA 87.03 3(3) AUSTRALIA 86.87 4(4) ENGLAND 85.76 5(5) FRANCE 81.59 6(6) WALES 81.36 7(7) SAMOA 80.42 8(8) IRELAND 79.58 9(11)  SCOTLAND 76.95 10(9) ARGENTINA 76.67 11(10) TONGA 74.77 12(12) ITALY 74.17 13(14)  FIJI 73.56 14(15)  JAPAN 71.98 15(13) CANADA 71.55 16(16) GEORGIA 67.66 17(18)  ROMANIA 66.18 18(17) USA 66.04 19(19) RUSSIA 61.99 20(20) SPAIN

@ Canrugby, I have always thought that whoever is grading or working out these so called "World Rankings" always seems to favour the ABs and the OZs. That's the reason why I don't buy into this World Rankings stuff, it'll give you a massive head arch. That's how I feel mate!

It almost angers me every time I look at it. To win 3 games and lose 2 in 5 games you'd think you'd either stay at the same spot, or slightly move up. We moved down 2 spots. Again, makes no sense at all. Especially when 2 of those 3 wins were against teams ahead of us in the rankings...

Also weird that Wales (who is 6nations champs and smashed England) is behind France ( who were absolutely crap during the 6 nations)

The biggest influence on the rankings I suspect was Japan Beating Wales. Wales lost out on that one and Japan gained alot. So Can, that might be your explanation for why Japan is ranked above Wales at the moment.

I really don't know what Ntanga is talking about either, but as for Canada. At the beginning of the month we were at a 71.80 ranking. We won 3 and lost 2 and we are now at a 71.55. Again, that makes no sense to me. One of the losses was by 3 points as well.

We lost to the Irish very badly, but losing one game by 30 points shouldn't take away all the hard work done in 3 victories. I think that's just silly.

Canrugby, I think Ek makes a very valid point. However well Canada have played over the last few weeks, they were always going to be overtaken by Japan who did even better by beating Wales.

I'm guessing you've at least closed the gap on Tonga and Fiji? Have you got the rankings table before the June tests?

We have closed the gap on Tonga and Fiji. My biggest "wonder" though isn't really why Japan is above us, but is how did we drop in our ranking points when we win 3 of 5 games? At the start of June we had 71.80. At the end of our tests we have 71.55.

As I said before. I don't think 1 bigg loss should negate 3 hard earned victories. That's the only thing I can think of why we have gone down in points.

Canada - USA  16-9  In Canada

Canada - Fiji  20-18  In Canada

Canada - Tonga 36-27  In Canada

Canada - Ireland 14-40  In Canada

Canada - Japan  13-16  In Japan

Canrugby, I don't claim to know how these rankings work but you might find that those ranking points are relative to the other teams rather than worked out purely on win/loss performances. I'm quite sure that if Canada keeps up that level of form then it won't be long before you overtake the likes of Tonga, Fiji and Japan.

I should also mention that Japan's win over Wales is probably a bit suspect as well considering the Welsh had 16 players in the British Lions squad.
