The following players have been nominated for this year. Celebrating the individual who has consistently delivered world class performances and inspired fans across the globe. The nominees are -

  1. Louis Bielle-Biarrey (France)
  2. Pieter-Steph du Toit (South Africa)
  3. Malcolm Marx (South Africa)
  4. Ox Nche (South Africa)

Please may it not be Du Toit - it will blow Mozart rugby brain into smithereens.

I hope Ox gets it although unlikely now that he's missed/missing these last 4 matches. Still great that he's the 1st prop ever nominated.

Probably going to go to Le beep beep.

Surposed Benaud was not nominated. One of the three Springboks nominanted and in order of Merit those are Du Toit, Marx and Nche,

Sacha all the way.

The kid is entirely unbelievable.

Hey boys, wanna put a smile on your dial?

Just sit back for a moment and consider that Sacha is ours...not a Kiwi, not an Ozzie...not an Irish or Englishman...a Springbok!

Just think about the amount of heartbreak he's gonna cause our opposition. How many more things he's gonna do things that will make us call him a bloody alien. How many games he's gonna take by the scruff of the neck and win on his own.

Now tell me you aren't smiling ear to ear.

Nominated last year and Wallace Sititi won it.

Unfortuntely Sacha played in a limited number of matches this ear both on Franchise and International level. I would say the same as you do - but apparently World Rugby cut him out for the relvant reason.

I also see that the breakthrough list is only for players that have played less than one year of test rugby

Sacha debuted in June 2024

I'm surprised he wasn't nominated, but he probably didn't play enough...he was absolutely fantastic in most of the matches he played though.

Andre Esterhozen for making the role of hybrid mainstream…..excellence in 2 positions. Probably the best 12 on the Planet and now looking like one of the top loosies. Player and pioneer.

Great post Draad. And of course it’s fitting that Biarrey is there among the three Springboks, nobody did more to assure the Bok victory over France, blowing two try scoring chances. What are they thinking?

I have caught many a coho on Lake Michigan, great fighting fish…I thought that was a South African shot. Coho stay in a temperature band between 55 and 60 degrees F. So the first step is to find the depth where water is that temperature. Then you use a downrigger to set your lures at that depth and trolling speed is the next variable. The strike is usually pretty dramatic.

No prop has ever won this award, plenty of backs and loosies have. The scrum is at the heart of Bok success and Ox is the dominant prop in the game. His contributions have swung critical tests, he deserves the award.

3 out of 4 of the shortlist are Springboks, it would be a travesty if the winner is not from SA.

First time ever that 3 out of the top 4 are SA players.

Apparently Pollock the Bollock has only played 146 minutes of rugby this year. That's not even 2 full matches. The other nominees have played 436 (Hooker), 700 (Holland) and 990 (Sua).

Eventually we will be able to see if the World Player of the Year selections, is on Merit and not media hype Favouritism.

In my opinion, If OX or Marx don’t get it, and any of the other candidates, it’s a fake competition…

I don't know what everybody's problem is with Pollock.

I like how he plays and that he has some spite in him. In this vanilla world, should we really discourage some personality?

Personally, I'm so sick of everyone always saying and doing what the public agree with. Sacha has an ego, Pollock is too cocky...

More ego and more cockiness, please!

Rugby has generally discouraged any demonstration of individual ego. Dud Toit is the epitome of that, the quiet warrior. Which is why he has always been chosen ahead of Eben in these World Player popularity contests. Pollock is an exciting player to watch with his youthful exuberance and genuine talent

Ja Pollock is fine by me. I call him Bollock just for fun. Same with Marcus Smith, also very unpopular among a section of the rugby fraternity.

Just not sure if 146 minutes of rugby will make The Bollock a fair winner of the emerging player thing. Hooker or Holland for me, Sua has faded into virtual obscurity as the year progressed.
