IMO the most dangerous team in the comp is going to be the waratahs, like the chiefs they can field a star studded lineup, but also have some wicked depth on their bench and in the squad ready waiting for their chance to crack the team.

possible waratahs lineup,,,
1 ben robonson, 2 tatafu polotu nau, 3 sekope kepu

4 will skelton, 5 kane douglas

6 dave dennis (c), 7 micheal hooper, 8 wycliff palu

9 brendan mcibbin, 10 kurtley beale

12 rob horne, 13 AAC

11 peter betham, 15 izzy folau, 14 cam crawford

16 tolu latu, 17 paddy ryan, 18 jeremy tilse, 19 jed holloway, 20 jacques potgieter, 21 nick phibbs, 22 brendan foley, 23 jono lance

the whole 23 man possible waratahs team i just named is pretty mean IMO, every single player capable of being an incumbent in their own right.

there was also no room for other players like,,,

pat mccutheon, tala grey and ben volavola, and if u know anything about these players, then u can start to understand just how sick the waratahs depth is.

i also think coach cheika is very underrated, i love the way he handles himself on a PR level and i love his attacking mindset.

every saffa coach ive seen on every level combined dosent have half the attacking nous which chieka does, and im picking him to take over from the wallabies after the All Blacks win the 2015 RWC, :o)

heed my warning about the waratahs yall, we merely saw a glimpse of their true potential last year, and im picking the waratahs to do well in 2014.

IMO waratahs to top the aussie conference.

They're a one man team, Sasuke. If Folau gets injured or loses form then they'll do well to finish in the top half.
Hooper and Beale (when he's off the grog) are the only other class players in that team while I'd classify Kepu, Palu, AAC, Betham and Crawford as decent. The rest are average to crap.
Brumbies to top the Aussie conference, Reds second.

@sharkbok,

after beautiful recent comments from u like, irish are past it and wales is the No1 team, the waratahs find ur comments very encouraging.

regarding ur reply,,,

"Sasuke you talked the Warratas up pre- last season"
i did talk up the waratahs last year, and there was a big improvemnt from the waratahs compared to the season beofre, a 50% improvement which included wins over teams like the brumbies, chiefs, stormers and cheetahs.
three of those teams were all finalists and the chiefs have been the spXv champions for the last two years.

but i also said the chiefs or cursaders will win the spXV and that the NZ rugby would win every title and trophy available, how did they turn out??? :o)

"and you had a Chelka poster on your wall."
no i never had a poster of chieka, i had a poster of meyer. i love a good laugh when i get up in the morning, and watching meyer bring back all those useless oldies, fills this All Black hard supporter with so much confidence, as the All Blacks are miles ahead of the No2 team in the world.

so i wake up to meyers baby blues every morning and go, bawahahahahaha. its great getting up every morning full of cheer and eternal gratitude that im a NZ rugby fan, :o)

"The tight five look like no name brands but lets see."

aussies have never been know for their power in the tight 5, but what u seem to fail to grasp is, the tight 5s arent the only ones playing.
check out that backline, theres not one backline in all of south africa which is better.

I also think that they're going to top the aussie conference. They have depth and a balanced team which is more than Folau (Cam Crawford, for example, last season put 8 tries in 7 matches).
With Cheika in his second year and once the team is accustomed to his tactics they can bring the attacking rugby they showed last year to a superior level. No doubt it will be an interesting team to follow.
Skelton (a 135 kg tower) and Potgeiter can provide the punch that their pack lacked in recent seasons.

I would play with B. Foley at 10. He did it very good last season and Kurt Baley is not a 10 even if he has played some good Super Rugby matches there (failed at test matches), he needs more space. With the fullback spot owned by Folau (they were talking about playing Folau at 13 but I don't think it's a good idea) the only left place for him is at the wing.
Their weakest point could be the scrummhalf, McKibbin is useless and Phi pps' passing is horrendous.

 @shezza,
yeah, reports said that he was impressive in the warm-up against Blues:

"A trial match billed as "Benji's back" turned out to be more "Alofa's arrival" after the 22-year-old turned on a handful of exciting runs and finished off a scintillating team try in the Tahs' 33-12 win over the Blues."

but I think he plays at wing...

 @Sasuke,

The Sharks have a better backline than the Tahs.

Scrumhalf- 2 quality scrumhalfs in Reinach and Mcloid.
(Sharks win the scrumhalf easily)

Flyhalf- Lambie, and then Timo Swiel and the other blond haired  kid Zelinga was looking good in the Curry Cup. Timo Swiel could really shape up to an international quality player, and he is at the best possibale team at the moment in SA to do this.
(Tahs could take this as Lambie did not play well last season, and the 2 understudies are very junior- however dont write of Timo Swiel who might allready be world class)

Inside Centre- Frans Steyn and the new 19 year old kid that looked great in the Sarcaens match. Tim Whithead is a solid player and will not even make the match day squad.
(Sharks win the the inside centre easily)

Outside Centre. Paul Jordaan is pretty good and their are others coming through. Sithole was at 13 against the Lions and apparently was impressive with 3 tries, and others like Tyler Fisher- whom admittedly I have to see more off to see how good he is.
(tahs with the experience of ACC may take this, but the Sharks have some unknown quantity in this area)

Wing- JP Pieterson is still one of the better wings in world rugby, and Mvovo is solid at SuperXV level where he gets a decent amount of tries.
(Sharks take the Wing position easily)

Fullback- Ex Kings fullback Marias is a decent allround player- maybe not the best at 15 but very solid all rounder.
(Tahs take fullback position easliy)

Of the Waratahs

9 brendan mcibbin, 10 kurtley beale

12 rob horne, 13 AAC

11 peter betham, 15 izzy folau, 14 cam crawford

-

1. Izzy Folau is very dangerous and sure to be amongst the top try scorers of the tournament

2. ACC is a very good player, but maybe more suited to playing 15.

3. Kurtley Beale is a great fullback, but it is not clear what position he will be playing. I except him to have a good season after injury operations and time out of the game due to mixing with James oconner.

---

Brendan Mcibbin- I dont remember anything of his game that is noteworthy. Probably not as good as any of the South Africa scrumhalfs.

Their wings are either new players that I have not seen enough off, or just irrelevance that I do not remember.

The Sharks tight five will bully that pathetic tight 5, and we have a better backline.

Of their loosies, the have Michael Cooper- who took a serious beating that he will remember when playing against the Bok forwards for the Wallies. I would expect he has learnt his lesson and to not try play the ball from our side of the ruck.

@sharkbok,

"Inside Centre- Frans Steyn and the new 19 year old kid that looked great in the Sarcaens match."
its disgusting that u call urself a shark fan and not even know the name of players in ur teams squad.

FYI andre esterhuizen is the player u cant shamefully remember.

ive read ur post, and the reality is u dont know nothing about backline play or players, if u did, i would know that cam crawford ripped up the super XV rugby scene for the last half of the season, and peter betham was just,,,,,

whats the point of explaining things which is beyond ur boring saffa 10 man rugby line of thinking.
the reality is theres only a few saffas that can talk about backline play and ur not one of them.

if u cant name players in ur own team, how can u expect to be taken seriously when u give ur 2 rand on the waratahs players???

i hat red tape when it comes to a lot of things, but i have to admit that at times, it is necessary.
so from now on, if u wish to converse with me about anything related to the backline, u must first run ur post by saffex or rooy (or any other approved rugby alumini i might name at a later date) before i bother to read it.

if u get their approval, i will then give any thoughts of urs its due consideration, but until then, im not going to allow u to waste my valuable rugby blogging time, with ur retarded thoughts on rugby backs on any team.

Sasuke, don't ever waste your time reading TwatBok's drivel. He's not even a real Sharks fan. He readily admits to dumping the Sharks a few years ago when he had a boner for Percy Montgomery, Barbie Skinstad and few of the other mincing Stompies around that time, so he conveniently became a Stompies fan for a few seasons and now he reckons he's a Sharks fan again.
That pretty much sums up TwatBok . . . a fickle, gay loser who knows nothing about rugby.

@Sasuke, you may play fantasy rugby, watch every game and keep a spreadsheet of stats but this does not make you an expert in backline play.

My guess is that anyone who spends half the time watching rugby as you do, would easily beat you in fantasy rugby, and then totally destroy you in real rugby analysis.
At the end of the season you are probably wondering how you got so much wrong- ha ha ha!

The Sharks do have a better back-line than the Warratahs, and if SA backline play is so bad how did the Sharks make the final in 2012?

Yes our forwards are superior, and yes the passing skills could be improved overall in South Africa, but we still have some classy back-line players who do have good passing running and passing skills.

You never acknowledge that Habana is the best wing in the world now, and possibly ever.
Instead you rate that big slab of meat Savea to be better than Habana- puleeze......

Your expert opinion of backline play said that Willie LeRoux was not very good. You later semi-retracted this and just focused on his defense.

Same story with Jean Devilliers who you do not rate, although Ma Nonu has previously stated that he rated Devilliers as the best inside centre in world rugby, and that Graeme Henry has often stated his admiration of the perception skills of JDV.
Sasuke who?- oh that cartoon character on a blog tha thinks he is an expert in backline play..Did he ever play rugby, no he was in the choir. LMAO

My number one sport is surfing and I have seen lots of people like you in surfing that claim to be experts.

As soon as they get in the water it is another story and they are dork s that can barely stand up.

The difference between knowledge and wisdom is like night and day , this is why you routinely get beat in your fantasy world of rugby...LMAO,

@SB. I think your comments about Habana (at Savea's expense) demand closer inspection.
It's worth noting that Habana has played 95 Tests, scored 53 tries for a career average of 0.56 tries per game. Savea has played 20 Tests, scored 19 tries for an average of 0.95 tries per game. He's close to averaging a try per game, nearly twice as potent a try scorer as Habana. If we extrapolate Saveas average over the same number of Tests as Habana (95), Julian will have scored 90 tries but this is wildly speculative and wholly unnecessary when describing the comparative value of Savea over Habs.
In Habanas first 20 Tests he had scored 15 tries. It took him 26 games before he scored the same number of tries Savea managed in 20. Of those games, Habanas Bokke lost 9, drew 1 and won 10 for a less than stellar win/loss ratio of 50%. Savea has won 19 of his 20 AB Tests with 1 loss giving him a win/loss ratio if 95%.
Now, I'm not suggesting that Habana is a poor player nor am I declaring Savea to be the worlds greatest (current) winger. I'm just saying that Savea is much more than a  "slab of meat". He is a fine player with incredible potential that is easily on par with Habana at the same stage in his playing career. His name MUST be included in any serious discussion about the identity of the worlds best winger 2013. To dismiss Savea out of hand would be folly. Folks are free to interpret this data however they choose.

@Nukefreekiwi, you are right.

Savea is a top quality winger and one of the best in the world.
He is stronger than Habana and would be score some tries that Habana would not, being able to smash out of tackles a bit like Lomu.

However I am sure that Habana is a better allround player.

Also, comparing their try scoring stats are a bit misleading.
The All Blacks bring their  wings into the game more, and the inside backs are better at creating space and have better passing skills than their Springbok counterparts. (This is the main reason the All Blacks have beaten the Boks more in the professional era, and the main area for improvement for the Boks to take the number one position).

If Habana had played for the All Blacks his try scoring record would have been much higher.

Many of Habanas tries are individualistic and I doubt Savea would ever be able to match these. Look at the 2 tries he scored in about 5 minutes in the last test against the All Blacks. If he never got injured he could have gone on to get more and with a good chance of breaking the record of 3 tries against the All Blacks in one test.

Habana is more a player in the mould of Christian Cullen. I rate both of these 2 players as the best attacking players of the modern era which is pretty much the time since I have been watching rugby. Habana has had a longer career due to less injury and has lost some of his pace but I still rate him as the number one winger.
Even at his current age he has signed the highest paid contract for an outside back in world rugby.

Bit late to the conversation but my opinion is that Savea is going to break all the try-scoring records both international and Al l Black and go down in history as one of the Top 3 wings in All Blacks history IF the domestic abuse stuff is behind him.
Only 23 and has oodles of power and speed and has added sure hands under the high ball and even some clever grubbers last year.

Savea's looking good for sure he even displaced Gear & Gear was looking fantastic when Savea first arrived on the test scene. It will be good to see him play this weekend!
Plenty of other talent at wing though but he is a power runner (plus the other skills you mention) & we have plenty of speed guys as wings. Options all over the place in NZ for wing.

Not biting, just keep going, prove how childish you are.
